Anthony Chickillo. An emerging talent or just the hot camp story of the week?

Well this means he's the first camp casualty and then we'll all cry about how stupid the front office is
And he will go on to do nothing pn someone else's roster.

Chickillo should take Jones spot. He knew he had to lose some weight and showed up looking diced. Everyone knows Jones needs to gain muscle and he shows up year after year looking like a receiver.

I guess if they put JJ in now they would simply feel he is better at this point cause it isn't like they would give a **** at this point. No contract put the writing on the wall ala Hood. However, as I see it JJ isn't really a significantly better athlete. I've literally never seen him run someone down or make a great play on a ball. Now it is frequently said that Chickillo at least plays with a high motor and will hunt. I would always put that guy on the field when deciding between two relatively equal athletes.

They are not near close as athletes, Chickillo is explosive, has a great first step and his numbers dwarf Jarvis's across the board. The only thing Jarvis has is he was a 1st rounder.

Well there is the JJ knows the d assignments better. He has made some timely key plays, just not nearly as many as you'd like from his draft slot. Had JJ been picked in the 4th I don't think he'd get near the animosity he does from Stiller faithful

I will say this. If Jarvis knew how to hit the ball carrier then he'd be impressive. He does get in the backfield. He's the defensive Wiff Johnson. I say we should call Jarvis Uncle Wiff

All that means is he was over drafted, Jarvis, but he does not seem to have been a distraction or bad locker room guy. The guy looks like he has reached his peak and it does not seem to be as high as was desired. Chic on the other hand looks to be still developing and does not look to have reached his peak he may continue to develop or he could also flop like many guys do in that role.

Exactly what I was thinking after reading this thread. Jones seems to have peaked in college ball and hasn't really made the transition to the next level. Chick is more of a raw talent but probably has more upside.
Back on Day One I said that Jones would probably never get strong enough to play effectively in the NFL because of that spinal stenosis and that seems to have been correct. Not that I want the guy to be a bust because I said he'd be a bust, hell I'd love him to get those ten sacks that Coach Peezy was talking about and make All Pro and get a SB ring, but in three years we've seen absolutely zero indication that will happen.

While my 'judgement' on Uncle Jarvis is far less negative - I didn't like the pick when he was selected; but, he has become an intricate part of this team because of the QB pressures that he shows on the field.

Let's not forget that he started (very early) in Coach LeBeau's super hard defense [and he looked lost most of the time], he got hurt and hurt some more, but, he didn't look terrible last year in the new system.

Being that this is his contract year and he knows this system as much as the previous one - barring injury - let's see what his performance is like this year shall we???

And I think that Chick will be a great LOLB as well - let's see who finishes the race first...

There are Alot of reports saying chick is having the best camp out of any Steelers player so far. There are also Alot of reports saying Jones is having a very strong camp as well.. as far as in concerned this is a great problem to have.

The way camp is going I think he will.

If only this translated to the regular season we'd be set.

yeah at this time of year you have three phases

training camp standouts
preseason standouts

and that doesn't always translate into regular season standouts

although it isn't uncommon to see player(s) flash in TC/preseason carry into regular season

our LBer / WR final cuts this year will be interesting................

from what I seen so far, I would be surprised if

Chickillo/Eli Rogers/Matakevich don't make the final 53

I really don't understand the let him go sentiment..if he has a good year 7-10 sacks and isn't breaking the bank why not sign him?? Why waste another draft pick? Harrison and Moats aren't going to play forever. If Jones plays well we would have three young guys at OLB. If chick can carry over his impressive camp into the regular season and beyond we would have three good guys who know the defense and can rotate in and out and keep each other fresh. It doesn't have to be one guy vs another just because of where they were drafted.

Chickillo has great potential. I like what we have heard so far this season with regards to his improvement over last year. He's doing all the right things in training camp so far. Rooting for him to blossom into another great Steelers LB'er because JJ isn't very good and his contract is up after this season and Deebo isn't going to last forever! I think in only his second year he's showing more progress than Jarvis Jones in his first year to his second season so keep it up Chickillo!

I disagree with this statement only because as of right now Chick has done nothing in a preseason game let alone a regular season game.. Jarvis while he hasn't been a superstar that we all want. He has been solid and has made some big plays for this team. I'm loving the progress we are all hearing chick is making in camp..but I for one want to see him do it games.

yeah those 6 qb pressures he racked up sure show he's a intricate part

Jarvis Jones is having a very strong camp? Can you clarify from whom "Alot" of these reports are coming from, please?

Still winning matchups in training camp.

Sure it has to carry over to games.

But I think he is on the right path..........

And I hope it continues and carries over. Another hand in the pile for this championship journey.

There are others reporting the same but those two I knew could find quickly because I just read them.

At Chick's size though, isn't he suited more at the strong side at 265 lbs? Wouldn't he be competing with Moats and Dupree for playing time on the Left side?
