With the 102nd overall pick, the Pittsburgh Steelers select OLB Alex Highsmith

You can’t compare Sutton to Highsmith. Two completely different players. For starters one is barely 6 feet and the other is 6’4. Sutton’s biggest strength was his quickness but lacked a variety of pass rush moves. Highsmith is light years ahead of him at this point. The biggest knock on Highsmith is he needs to hit the weight room and fill out his frame which could be said about most guys at coming into the NFL. He isn’t going to be ready year 1 but give the guy some time. It’s not a wasted pick at the point where they were picking. Now if they drafted him in the 2nd then yea but they got him as a 3rd round comp pick which really is a high 4th rounder.

Actually, Highsmith is listed as 6'3" on NFL.com. Of course they're different players, but they're comparable because they're projects. Evidently the guy was too embarrassed about his lack of strength to bother to perform the bench press at the combine or his pro day. Maybe he'll get stronger, yeah. Or maybe he won't. If he doesn't, those "light years" won't amount to **** in the NFL.

That's a roll of the dice I'm not comfortable with in the third round of a shorthanded draft.

Dumb **** this was AFTER the game

Before the game halftime and after they spew the same ****. Bilidick could be 14-0 playing an 0-14 team and AFTER the game he will say they put up a good fight, played real hard even after they win 45-0. Come on dude

And this guy and Sutton Smith are not even similar physically:

Alex Highsmith -- 6'3" 250 lbs 33 1/8" arms (per his NFL.com draft profile)

Sutton Smith -- 6'0" 233 lbs 30 3/4" arms (per his NFL.com draft profile)

So he's taller, has longer arms, and is weak as ****...great.

Well I find that awesome! My sisters both gave up kids to adoption. High praise Mark's for you! Seriously. Of course that. Of course that being said it helps explain why they are so smart....(you know the apple doesnt fall far from the tree thing(

my boys are just like me....personality is a learned trait...and they learned football from me and watching on their own.

and my high schooler and even my boy in middle school would ******* school you in football knowlede

hell coach makes you look stupid...and he is ignorant as hell

Ok whoever I was trolling goodnight and let's hope Highsmith is a good player (although pretty sure hes a future cut.....he won't live out his contract I tell you that).

Hmm, that's interesting. But could it have been a muscle/injury issue, or are you just assuming?

Fair take. Let's hope this guy pans out.

Exactly ************!!! Its amazing that if you Express bat **** crazy anger about a pick you always get the following types of replies on this site

A) I'm sure you know more the entire FO he hem
B) I always love these guys every year who spout the same **** who dont know ****
C) You are losing it man. You need help
D) I trust the process and he will be a solid player in time

Any of you are entitled to live your life the way you wish but I'll never be a passive ***** fu king fans like some of you. Guess who pay the players salaries? Or Mike's salary? The fans do. So if you want to keep being part of the circle jerk and keep regurgitating trust the process I have faith bullshit and take it up the butt from the FO when they draft guys like Dri in the 3rd be my guest.I never will jerk off Mike. It's good to ***** and complain and stir the pot. If you like being submissive go live in China. For the most part I think they have done a very good job with their picks over the years. A team is still built in the draft. But when you draft a practice squad guy in the 3rd fans should *****. He isnt going to do squat. Btw I'm not losing it.....I'm just ******* around but I do think this pick sucked. 1st round Minkah A +++ 2nd round Pool .......for now B- only because WR is not an easy position to play as a rookie and Akers or Dobbins play the easiest rookie position and would have been an upgrade over Conners and would have provided depth . This pick.......D to F........if it was in round 5 I'd give it a B

Well,

a) I'm not a ************, ************,
b) I'm not batshit angry, I just don't care for the pick, and
c) I'm willing to discuss my differing opinion without making it personal, until somebody makes it that way.

So chill the **** out.

Evidently the guy was too embarrassed about his lack of strength to bother to perform the bench press at the combine or his pro day.

"He didn't do the bench press at the combine because of a strained pectoral muscle he was rehabbing. Instead, he sent a video of him bench pressing to his agent for all 32 teams. Apr 3, 2020"

It didn't give me a source or the link to that quote (will try to find), but that's what came up when I asked why he didn't do the bench press on a Google search.

Not sure if I ever saw Sutton Smith do this (boy has some power):

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">INCOMING <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Steelers?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Steelers</a> Alex Highsmith <a href="https://t.co/seVWqp1kQr">pic.twitter.com/seVWqp1kQr</a></p>— Steelers Depot (@Steelersdepot) <a href="https://twitter.com/Steelersdepot/status/1253907034073821186?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 25, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Yes, that was a hell of a bull rush on that anonymous slow-footed, poorly executing CUSA tackle there. Sweet. There's a lot of those types of guys to dominate in the NFL, right?

I'm starting to think You didn't love the pick.

Forget it, your mind's already made up. Forget the professional scouting, or all the pundits I cited that gave him a mid-round grade, or that the NFL had specific video for him to be called on night 2, or the fact he hasn't suited up for one single down yet; he's a bust. Case closed.

"He probably needs to get stronger." --Baldy

Yeah, I think I said that.

Couldn't find anything regarding an injury. Can you?

Yeah, I think I said that.

"He's got an array of moves ... He can dip and bend ... He's got speed to power .... He's got a cross-chop move. It's next level."

- Also from the Baldy clip

*Also, will this be the thread that breaks the "Archer" record?

All right...so my next question would be: How many reps did he do in this video?

"A lot of teams have questioned Highsmith’s strength during the process and he didn’t do the bench press at the combine because of a strained pectoral muscle he was rehabbing.

Instead, he sent a video of him bench pressing to his agent for all 32 teams. He did 20 full reps."

Found that as the first item that popped up under the Google search "Why didn't Alex Highsmith bench press at the combine?"

When did I say my mind was made up? Because I pointed out that your bull rush example was against a nobody with bad mechanics?

NFL.com had him at # 265. I suspect they should probably know more than you or I do, but let's applaud the pick before he suits up for a down.
