You can’t compare Sutton to Highsmith. Two completely different players. For starters one is barely 6 feet and the other is 6’4. Sutton’s biggest strength was his quickness but lacked a variety of pass rush moves. Highsmith is light years ahead of him at this point. The biggest knock on Highsmith is he needs to hit the weight room and fill out his frame which could be said about most guys at coming into the NFL. He isn’t going to be ready year 1 but give the guy some time. It’s not a wasted pick at the point where they were picking. Now if they drafted him in the 2nd then yea but they got him as a 3rd round comp pick which really is a high 4th rounder.
Actually, Highsmith is listed as 6'3" on NFL.com. Of course they're different players, but they're comparable because they're projects. Evidently the guy was too embarrassed about his lack of strength to bother to perform the bench press at the combine or his pro day. Maybe he'll get stronger, yeah. Or maybe he won't. If he doesn't, those "light years" won't amount to **** in the NFL.
That's a roll of the dice I'm not comfortable with in the third round of a shorthanded draft.
