With the 102nd overall pick, the Pittsburgh Steelers select OLB Alex Highsmith

Typo ..meant 3rd home. If I had 20 years dedicating myself to finding talent I definitely would do a better job and if I had 20 years dedicated to coaching and learning the ins and outs of the NFL I'd be a better coach than Tomlin because I'm smarter than both of them. A retard however can see this was a bad pick

The retard being....?

I tend to withhold judgement on draft picks as I’ve heard that everyone has been wrong about them at one point or another.

Sorry---not seeing what your seeing Ballin...

Didnt even see a anything out of him until the game was out of hand.. and even then, it was nothing to get excited about..

Did you read the quote from Clemson's starting LT in the link Djfan provided???? He says exactly what I said about his get off.

Also, one can clearly see he can get around the edge, has a spin and swim move. Lots to work with here.

BWAhaha, the Tomlin apologists never cease to amuse, this was a REACH while the rest of the league was gobbling up 40 SEC players.

Pick out one game you KNOW the mighty Clemson team didn't spend a bit of time gameplanning against and hanging your hat on that to end ALL conversation.

"OH what a brilliant draft pick this guy is, the Steelers are NEVER wrong, Tomlin is a GENIUS!"

I bet you apologists don't even know what this tiny school's name is, do you?

THE MIGHTY (7-6) CHARLOTTE 49ERS

2019 Bahamas Bowl Five Things Learned: Buffalo 31, Charlotte 9

Buffalo wins its first bowl game in program history, easily charging past Charlotte in the Bahamas.

Buffalo (8-5) and Charlotte (7-6) both fought for their first bowl win in program history, but the matchup finished with a lopsided 31-9 result in favor of the Bulls.

This bowl game played out very similar to the 2017 Bahamas Bowl. That year, Ohio erased UAB, 41-6, by rushing the ball in a dominant fashion over an inexperienced C-USA team

Buffalo’s o-line will beat the best pass rush

Out of all the bowl games, the Bahamas Bowl featured one of the most intriguing matchups in the trenches. Buffalo’s offensive line only yielded eight sacks and one since the start of October. Meanwhile, Charlotte averaged three sacks per game and featured the nation’s second-ranked leader in the category, Defensive end Alex Highsmith.

Buffalo only passed 17 times, and for the fourth-straight game, zero sacks were recorded on the star-studded offensive line. Still, the line paved generous pathways for Patterson in the running game, allowing the halfback to consistently bolt for double-digit carries on the Charlotte defense despite simple play-calling.

Buffalo’s offensive tackles, Evin Ksiezarczyk and Kayode Awosika, completed the tall task of limiting Highsmith who finished without a single tackle for loss.

No matter how talented an opposing pass rush seems, Buffalo’s offensive line has no issue shutting it down and dominating at the line of scrimmage.

Buffalo never trailed once in the matchup, coasting to an easy victory by out-rushing, out-blitzing, and outplaying the 49ers in nearly every facet.

The quote felt like a big brother giving his little bro kudos because he didn't want to hurt his feelings...

As far as moves goes...It doesn't mean you can dance..... just because you have moves....

I scratched my head last night at this pick but hey-what's done is done. Hope the kid develops.

I was going to "like" it Spike....but is more "sad" than a "like"...

Clemson always has to defend their level of competition. Of course they're going to say good things.
I'm hopeful this guy develops faster than Dupree.

The best aspect of Highsmith is he is entering the league already having an array of pass rushing moves.

Agreed....he sure does look the part...I certainly hope that translates to NFL success...

but like I said....It doesn't mean you can dance..... just because you have moves....

Fans don't have to apologize for a pick that has never played a down. Love when arm chair GMs rip a player apart. One thing to not care for a player but to diss everything and everyone who led to the pick is silly. Wait and see how it plays out.

LOL. No it didn’t. If asked about a player and you don’t want to hurt their feeling you say something in general like he is a good player. He went way beyond that and it was unprompted which gives it more credibility.

Now let's get our QB of the future in the next round and call it a day so we can get back to another 8-8 season, maybe.

Although I highly doubt there will be one. The minute an NFL player gets infected the Players Association Union will shut it down

Something Dupree did not have. I've read scouts talking about him being an avid technician and film junkie, so he may not have the learning curve that Bud Dupree had after all. He's going to need to bulk up and get stronger IMO. I'm not sure why certain people are so down on this pick though.

They needed a pass rusher with Dupree not signing a long-term contract and some question marks behind him. Could he have been had in the 4th? Only the teams know that as someone may have been ready to take him, and that's why the Steelers pulled the trigger.

I hope thats the case Scott..

Me too. I didn’t care for the pick but I hope it works out. The fact he said those things unprompted after playing against him hopefully bodes well. It wasn’t the typical pre-game building up your opponent talk.

To me his best traits are:
- he already has pass rush moves
- he is a true OLB, not a tweener, not a guy that has never played standing up and has to be taught from scratch like happened with Dupree
- has the size and athleticism for the position
- could get a hat as a rookie thanks to ST play
- high ceiling, the low floor isn't that bad because there are two surefire starters already on the team.

Most of the ratings I saw on the kid has in the 3rd-4th round.

Here is his tape from Clemson:

I actually liked this tape. There are things to work with. Varies his pass rush move. Gets off the snap VERY quick. Pretty good hand use. I mean playing against Clemson is practically playing against the NFL and his tape is okay.

That said, and I'm not bashing the pick, he has limitations. I'm not convinced NFL weight and conditioning training just works on him. His frame/weight look correct. 6'-3" and 250 lbs. seems to fit him. He will get a little stronger but not magically stronger.

I'm fine with the pick. I think he's a solid player. Will definitely stick on the roster this season, play special teams, do NFL training and see what being a pro is all about. Who knows, if we can't sign Dupree maybe he's ready to contribute and hold his own in 16 months. The coaches have to nurture the kid and teach him a lot and he has to WANT to get better. We'll see. For pick #103, at least its not a punter or a Dri Archer.

Why is it always a IF player or a player in development. Tomlin needs to watch who we all hate Hairball and Baltimore, they are hitting them to the fence not bunting
