I still can't wrap my head around how we can pass on a wide out from the SEC that lead the NCAA in touchdowns with 17...when we have the worst wide receiver room in the league!!

If you put the 65 jersey on him....you would think it was Dan Moore!
Similar to Moore---This Guy is not a tackle....maybe inside?

We drafted the clone of Dan Moore.
:(
Don't like the selection at all....can you tell?!?

Quick feet, great mirroring, stunt recognition. All those traits that Moore lacks but yeah, they look the same,

On the other hand, the players they would’ve taken may very well still be available.

The 5th year option is good for preventing roster needs but I don’t know that it’s that important. If a team hasn’t resigned a player after four years and is using the fifth year option to retain him, they’re probably not that concerned about eventually losing him.
1. You don't trade the pick to a division rival to select a WR that will torch your *** twice a season. Just stupid.
2. Isn't it always great to have the option in the event you need it? Damn skippy!

The only GM to pull a more stupid draft day move was Terry Fontenot. Drafting Penix when he just signed Cousins for mega money.

Who is to say that Worthy (or for that matter, an even better player) wouldn’t still have been available at 32?

Yes, but if, say George Pickens goes off this year and has 90 receptions for 1,400 yards and 12 TDs, other than a little leverage, it doesn’t really matter much that the Steelers don’t have a fifth year option on him. He’s going to want a new contract and they should be inclined to give him one.

One, the other, or possibly both was most likely a stupid decision. The only way it wasn’t is if Penix comes off the bench after a Cousins injury and takes the Falcons to a Super Bowl championship and then does it again in 2025.

I was thinking about that pick when they had Cousins but drafted a QB anyways. I was wondering (maybe far fetched) that if it wasn’t but a knee jerk reaction to the Jets losing AR shortly after getting him.

They in turn was like we won’t let that happen to us.

At the time I thought it was a dumb time to draft a QB but started to think maybe it wasn’t so dumb after all.

Hate the pick but not because of the player. I knew in my heart we would not take a QB but I also said that one would be there at 10 or 11 and sure as **** McCarthy was sitting there at ten and then Nix at 12 and we ******* don't make a trade for the most important position on the field. what the ever loving ****. great we got a offensive lineman that is coming off TWO serious injury's. Now we go into the season with an older washed up Wilson who is on a one year deal or a younger not productive Fields that is also basically on a one year deal because no way in hell we pick up his 5th year.

Not taking a QB this year is going to ******* haunt us for years ALA Dan Marino in 83. I just don't ******* get it, we move from 20 to 11 for Devin ******* Bush but not to 10 for a franchise QB

JJ McCarthy WILL be the best QB of this draft and two or three years from now I won't be the only one on this board pissed and bitching because we didn't do whatever it took to get him. So now we are probably looking at another 20 ******* years of ****** QB play and I will not live long enough to see another SB win. son of a ***** am I ******* pissed.

I wondered if they were going to hold Penix for ransom from the Raiders in a trade. Guess not.

Some youtube guys were saying that he would be a dominant guard. It's cool to be that guy, but I'm getting tired of Moore being the reason our studs are misplaced.

I don’t think they drafted him to be a gaurd. He will play one of the tackles and Broderick will play the other.

Dan Moore may move into guard, but more likely than not, he will be playing bench warmer.

This BS of playing guys out of their natural positions seems to be getting old and on my nerves…….

The 2 QB’s now are playing for the gig next year. One of the 2 will be retained, my guess is Fields. Fields will then get the chance to compete with the rookie drafted tomorrow (Sat.) or early next year.

Relax, The sky is not falling. When they get the C, things will be in place for years to come.

I would not have minded rolling the dice on McCarthy or Nix if they fell to 20, given the importance of the position, but outside of the top two or three guys, I'm not sure if any of these QBs were worth trading up for.

It was a good QB class, especially compared to recent years, but given the failure rate at the position, six QBs going in the top 12 seems absurd to me.

You're right regarding the importance of the position, but I think the prospects there tend to be overrated and over drafted because of that.

Odds are that "maybe" half of these QBs just drafted pan out.

I just don't get how you do not go after someone like JJ when you seem to not have that guy on your roster. we reach for pickett and don't make a play for QB this year.

I have followed McCarthy since high school and he will be the vikings guy for 15 plus years. 27-1 three big ten titles and a national championship third winning-est QB in college history. he lost two games in high school 36-2. a combined record of 63-3. His TD/Int college 49-11 high school 94-13 that is 143 to 24 TD/INT. Add to all this is he is just a great young man that put the team first always. I just don't understand not making a play for that kid.

Many of us lived through those terrible QB years between Terry and Ben and I just hate the thought of repeating that. If anything Ben proved you had to have that guy at QB to win in today's NFL and we do not have that guy right now.

I will get over it but I am just truly disappointed right now. I thought when he slipped to ten there might be a chance we would make a move. was watching espn and they said McCarthy was the steal of the first round...

Dan Moore Jr. I’m betting won’t be on the 53 come September. Why would he? He’s strictly played LT never played RT so he’s of no value as the swing tackle. Maybe just maybe Moore is used as trade bait to say SF where Trent Green ain’t getting any younger. Just sayin!

So think about this one! Niners drafted Ricky Pearsall yesterday. So Omar needing a premier WR throws one of the third round picks along with Dan Moore Jr. to the Niners for either Debo Samuel’s or Brandon Aiyuk. Can’t see John Lynch keeping all three receivers. And we cleared 7 million cap space the other day. Just sayin!

The only reason to keep him is that he is cheap depth. If an offer for a 4th rounder comes I'm sending him gift wrapped

I just have a feeling Dan is on the move. Last year of his rookie deal so would make sense to move him if you can.

I'm a big believer in the round two move up. If there is a guy in a need ppsition who can be a difference maker starter out of the box in round 2.......make the move with your extra third. If you get two Game one starters in a draft you did well.

Yeah, Fautanu is insanely athletic for a tackle. Watching some of his tape breakdown from analysts, it's really impressive how he can get out in space and block at the second level.

I don’t quite get why an ACL would be a concern either. I mean, these tears happen all the time at all levels of athletics and the athletes are recovering faster than ever, so I’m with you about the reports in terms of the knee issues.
You don't quite get it? I'd rather draft a guy who doesn't have an ACL jnjury history, and "could need another surgery there" in the future. And Fautanu will be already be 24 years old in October, so I'm sorry, the potential of throwing away a full season of a first-round pick in his prime doesn't sound very appealing to me.

As @slashsteel said, there's nothing we can do but wait and see. What I have noticed is that even on all the clips of Penix, I've been watching #55, and he seems to be doing an excellent job fundamentally on just about every play. So I understand what the Steelers like about him.
