The head coach search

My guess is the Bills end up regretting firing McDermott. He helped turn around a losing franchise that had not been to the playoffs for 17 years before he got there. It wasn't McDermott's fault Allen made multiple poor throws on the last couple of drives.

The TE Knox was wide open for a walk in winning TD on the play before the Bills had to kick the field goal that sent it to OT. If Allen doesn't throw that high, McDermott is still coaching the Bills next year.

I already explained to you that it's stupid to blame Flores and his #3 defense for Minnesota not making the playoffs this year. You ignored it.
I already explained to you that it doesn't make sense to blame his defense for a road playoff loss to the Rams in which they allowed under 300 yards. You ignored it.

Yes you did.

I already explained to you that the Dolphins have been a shlt franchise that hasn't won a playoff game in 25 years, and had had one winning season in the ten years prior to BF's arrival, so it's not too hard believe that he didn't win one in his three years there. You ignored it.

I'm all for playoff victories, too. No, Flores has not won one, but I've pointed out enough reasons why he hasn't. You're not going to change your mind about the guy, which is fine.

What you cannot ignore or refute is that team defense rankings improved significantly under his tenure in both Miami and Minnesota. There's a good chance he will make similar progress if hired in Pittsburgh. As a fan, I can work with that.
We can go back in forth and of course we are both settled in our opinions.

But there is nothing to suggest that the man can win significant playoff games with the Steelers. Ditto SB victories.

You explained your belief and I explained plenty of concerns.

We can agree to disagree here. I like the guy for a defensive coordinator. That is it.

I asked A I to chip in on the candidates and evaluate their specialties.

The "Best Unit" Rankings

RankCoachBest Unit PerformanceThe "Intellect" Proof
1stJesse Minter2023 Michigan Defense#1 in Nation. Allowed only 10.4 PPG and 247 yards/game. It was a masterpiece of "pro-style" adaptation that stifled elite offenses.
2ndMike McCarthy2011 Packers Offense#1 in NFL. Scored 35 points per game (560 total). Aaron Rodgers had a 122.5 passer rating—the highest in NFL history.
3rdSean McDermott2021 Buffalo Defense#1 in NFL. Ranked 1st in points allowed, yards allowed, and passing defense. The "13 Seconds" game overshadowed a historically elite unit.
4thKlay Kubiak2024 49ers Pass Game#2 in NFL (Yds/Play). As Pass Game Specialist, he helped Brock Purdy lead the NFL in yards per attempt (9.6) and passer rating.
5thChris Shula2024 Rams Defense#3 in Red Zone. With the youngest defense in the NFL, he ranked 3rd in Red Zone efficiency and 8th in EPA, doing "more with less."
6thBrian Flores2024 Vikings DefenseTop 10 Innovation. His unit ranked 1st in blitz rate and forced the most "negative plays" in the league, though it faded late in the season.
7thAnthony Weaver2024 Dolphins Defense#4 in Total Defense. A very solid year, but struggled with takeaways and lacked the "signature" dominance of the names above.
8thNate Scheelhaase2023 Iowa State OffenseTop 10 "Big Play" Unit. Led the nation in 50+ yard TDs, but it’s college-level production compared to the NFL resumes above.

Saw this comment about Flores from a former player in Miami:

Ryan Fitzpatrick commented that while Brian Flores started as a relatable coach in Miami, he eventually became a "dictator," losing touch with his staff and burning bridges by the end of his tenure, though Fitzpatrick believes Flores has learned from his mistakes and grown, highlighting his successful work with the Minnesota Vikings as a defensive coordinator. Fitzpatrick's critiques stem from his firsthand experience playing under Flores in Miami, noting a shift from a collaborative leader to someone who became unrecognizable and isolated.

This sounds way too much like what the team just got out form under. Maybe he's learned, maybe not. I'm skipping him as HC unless he simply blows everyone away in the interview. He seemed to like his time in Pittsburgh. Bring him in as the DC if nobody hires him as a HC.

Tua Tagovailoa said his former Miami Dolphins coach, Brian Flores, was a "terrible person" who consistently demeaned him, telling him he "sucked" and didn't belong, creating self-doubt, contrasting sharply with new coach Mike McDaniel's positive reinforcement, which Tua finds essential for a quarterback's growth and success. Tua stated Flores' negative coaching made him feel he hadn't earned his spot, while McDaniel's supportive style helped him thrive, and believes Flores' harsh methods are outdated for building a successful QB-coach relationship.

well **** what do i do now.?

glad selah is gone

and hafner too

IMO the only team to beat out for shulah is the bills.

Maybe Shulah has aids or is retarded,, idk.. But im willing to wait it out,, What about you booted?

I dont really give a ****. Steelers are going to do whatever they're going to do and whoever they pick, we'll all convince ourselves we now have a great coach.
Me? When the season starts, I'll watch the game , hope they win, and if not, oh well. Then, I go get dinner and go to work on Monday. Football doesn't affect me the way it did when I was in my 20s. Now it's just entertainment. Win? That's nice. Lose? That's nice. So it doesn't matter to me one bit who we get as coach.

In fairness, Flores was ultimately proven right about Tua, who he probably didn't want to draft in the first place.

Not excusing Flores' "tough love" toward Tua if it crossed the line like Tua suggests, but the "positive reinforcement" from the wizard McDaniel's ultimately didn't do Tua much good either.

Though also in fairness to Tua, his eggs might be scrambled now from the severity of the concussions he's experienced.
