The head coach search

In fairness, Flores was ultimately proven right about Tua, who he probably didn't want to draft in the first place.

Not excusing Flores' "tough love" toward Tua if it crossed the line like Tua suggests, but the "positive reinforcement" from the wizard McDaniel's ultimately didn't do Tua much good either.

Though also in fairness to Tua, his eggs might be scrambled now from the severity of the concussions he's experienced.
Tua's first two years with Flores, he threw for 1,814 yards with 11TDs and 2,653 with 13 TDs.

His first two years after Flores, 3,548 with 25 TDs, 4,264 with 29 TDs

Personal and team injuries have hurt him the past couple of years. You may be on to something about the concussions as well.

those numbers just soured my Flores likeness

It's kind of self explanatory, having a top QB is always the ideal spot as the rest of the components are easier to find.

Whoever the Steelers sign has to build that offense from scratch as there's no starting QB and worst yet, almost zero chance to get one in the draft.

They'll have to make lemonade from lemons. What sucks even more? We have no idea if Howard can be that guy. He has yet to take one meaningful snap.

If the search lasts beyond this week it's definitely going to be Shula or Scheelhaase. Shula's name was leaked so early, I think he's the top target and the job is his once the Rams' season is over.

Thing is if it was one of the current crop of yahoos wouldn’t they be more aggressive knowing they want to get the ball rolling with the new staff etc.?

I agree if it goes on past this week it will be one of the possibilities that can’t be formally interviewed until their end of season.

Other QBs played a lot during Tua's first couple years.

Tua's rookie year he split time with Ryan Fitzpatrick, while the Dolphins were 15th and scoring and won 10 games. It was the year that Flores had Chan Gailey as offensive coordinator, I believe.

Things still didn't end well for Tua with McDaniels either, though there was a brief period where Tua "kind of" looked like a franchise QB.

Could just be that Tua isn't very good, but McDaniels was able to work some magic out of him for a couple years before the league adjusted.

Just because Flores isn't a McDaniels-level offensive mind is not something to automatically be concerned about, IMO.

Few are, and we know where Flores' expertise lies.

When you have red paint, you paint the barn red, someone once said. Obviously. And things of that nature.

I'm all for discovering it through camp and season, worst case scenario we improve draft spot for 2027 QB search

We won’t have none of that common sense around here.
