Steelers 1st Round Pick

Well, I did not watch every game but I did watch the Texas Tech game. It wasn't Romello it was Anthony Holmes Jr. #33. Looks to be a whole sack not a half.



Next play he didn't give up the sack on Bailey but the LT was one on one and got beat. Max gets a phenomenal chip from a teammate and if not for the fact the LT gave up the sack he would have. And that's with help.

If you also watch you will see he is a very good run blocker. I am not concerned there. It is his pass blocking that needs work. I hope he can develop but I just feel a bit early for a project.

If Mad Max's needed improvement is pass blocking, then I am much more enthused about the pick. He has great balance and feet, does not get pushed back, and takes a great set with his pads square to the defender and at a spot that gives his QB room. I see so many of these "great" OT prospects backpedal like a CB and take a set about 6' from the QB when they finally stop retreating, with their pads almost facing the sidelines.

He definitely has sand in his pants. Good aggression. Nimble feet. He has all the tools and no one is arguing that.

I asked who you would have traded with, not who you would have traded up for? Can't trade up without another team willing to trade down. The teams that took OL weren't going to be trading with the Steelers, given it was common knowledge Oline was high on the Steelers wants list. That rules out trades to 9, 10, 12, 14, 17 and 19. I also can't see teams in the top 8 would have traded back to 21. When you look at players taken by teams at 11, 13, 15 and 16 I can't see any of those teams would have been interested in a trade down to 21. Trading with Dallas at 20 wouldn't have given you any more OT candidates. That leaves Minnesota as likely the only team that may have been a potential trade partner, and just because Steelers fans think their player would have been available at 21, they Vikings may not have.

The way day 2 played out erases all of my fears of the Max pick. He's a good player, but the Lemon debacle made it feel like they could get shut out on WR. I think they could have if they didn't trade up in Rd 2. Bernard felt like the last WR that could play immediately in a significant role.

Getting Bernard, then following up with Allar, Everet and Dunker changes everything.

I actually prefer Bernard to Lemon who seems like a retard. The Eagles may have done us a favor. But I hope Lemon goes for 2 TD every time he plays Dallas.

I am also thankful that our scouts are at games. Watch them …that and extensive game tape and actually know what they are looking at.

I think his only sack was vs Aiden Hutchinson and I think Rodgers held the ball for 3.5 seconds. So it is still a sack but a little more forgivable.

I don't hate the pick. I just feel it was a little bit of a reach and with a team offering to trade up I feel you mitigate your exposure by picking up a couple mid round picks. If you whiff with max but one of the two mid round picks becomes a starter then you are still ok. I mean I don't know if he would be on the board 5-10 picks later but I personally roll the dice. He does have a very high ceiling but my fear is we don't have the coaching staff and man power to develop him like he needs.

Yeah, he was definitely the guy I looking at. Him and Omar Cooper if they were dead set on a receiver. I know we signed a couple of safeties but having Dillon learning for a season and coming in on certain packages would have been a nice problem to have.

Big risk to take. New England traded up to take a tackle and San Francisco have a long term need at tackle. Maybe if Steelers traded back 5-10 picks as you suggest, New England leapfrog the Steelers to take Iheanachor instead of Lomu or San Francisco don't trade back if Iheanachor is still on the board.

If Tomlin didn't have his head up his arse Jones would have started at left tackle and we wouldn't be having this conversation. Instead, Tomlin kept Dan Moore at left tackle and had Jones learn right side technique. Oops!! Moore sucks...Hey Broderick, you're at left tackle now, unlearn right side and let's relearn left side.

When he got comfortable with the scheme, he was pulling at a speed that reminded me of Dirt Dawson. Big men shouldn't move like that. I hope he can come back at some point.

True, to get a deal the Steelers would have had to give up too much. We'll just have to hope Max Whathisname works out.
At least they drafted another OL who rocks the mullet. Gennings Dunker will be a fan favorite in the 'Burgh.
