Steelers 1st Round Pick

Are you going to put 3 7th rounders in those spots? Doubtful. Not sure that those 3 late picks aren't really UDFA headstarts.

That leaves 9 picks, with an impressive 5 in the top 100, and FAs/trades to fill many of those spots.

I'd love to get S/NT/ILB and WR/TE adressed on day 2, but I think QB might get added earlier than most here think.

Many experts here thought that pick 13 wasn’t even a first rounder

You’re likely correct again sir.

I expect Max to start. We need help on the line right away. Not next year. Who uses first round picks for linemen for the following year? I wouldn’t be opposed to using our second round pick on a guard either. It’s okay to Double dip and fix the O-line and then use our 3 third round picks for BPA in areas of need.

This is who you get when your standard has been mediocrity for a few years. You pick late teens or high twenties, and you hope a guy you like falls. The kid might be damn good, he is not a plug and play OL, period. I'm not as wound up about the embarrassment of Lemon being snatched. WR's aren't that tough to come by and there are plenty left in this draft.

They can't miss on any of the next four picks though. If you weren't using one of those extra 3's to move up, your scouts better know WTF they're doing. Call me skeptical on that. As always, all picks are maybe's until they perform at the next level. Time will tell.
I don't get how they determine plug and play. Vega is supposed to be plug and play. Idk. Im a PSU guy, watch a lot of their games. He never stood out against the better competition to me. Why is he plug and play but Max isn't?

Nothing against Vega but PSU did nothing impressive offensively last year. You'd think at least they could have run the ball with consistency with the best guard in the country. But they didn't.

But you wanna use it on a potential headcase that had one of the worst interviews ever

So glad you aren’t the GM

Talent wins in this league. Playmakers win in this league. Obviously the Steelers didn't mind his interview, cause if Khan wasn't sound asleep they would have taken Lemon.

Speaking of which, what exactly is the plan on O line? What if Jones is healthy? Even if not, what are we doing? Shuffling linemen around, again?

That being said, I would have drafted the safety from Oregon.

Lemon starts week one in the slot, Max is a project. Our track record at developing OL is one step up from abysmal. He was not highly rated, most analysts had him as a 2nd round pick at best, early third at worst.

We have an all new staff, so history of developement is out the door.

Salute the nation

So……you’ll have to explain this one to me. How do you figure Troy was a below average RT last season? I thought he played well as basically a rookie in a position he had never played before. After all….he was an LT.
And what do you base your statement on that he’s a pro bowl guard? Considering that he has never played guard in the NFL and he played over 90% of his snaps as a LT with the Huskies and got drafted because of his play as LT. in the first round.
Good question. It’s a little harder to see with our offensive scheme last year. We had the quickest snap to throw time in the NFL and imo that was designed to protect the offensive line. So I really just analyzed the snaps where Rodgers held the ball 2.5+ seconds. I would say Fautanu was actually better at this than he was at run blocking. But I think he gave up a lot pressues more when Rodgers had to go to his second read. Run blocking is where he struggled and I feel moving him to LG and allowing him to double up with Frazier inside or use his speed to get on smaller LBs would help.

He might be better at LT than RT. But imo Cook would be a better LT than Fautanu.

Also, Troy did play LT at Washington but his quarterback was also left handed. I know it’s not quite the same but you do kinda flip your protection with a left handed quarterback.
Yet you have him as a pro bowl guard even though he’s basically never played the position in the NFL or College.
I think people think it’s so hard for a tackle to kick inside and I really don’t get where that stigma comes from. There’s countless College tackles who had long and hall of fame careers kicking inside to guard or center. I honestly would draft mostly tackles if I was a GM and guys who might be very good college tackles but don’t check the boxes for an NFL tackles and struggles I would immediately kick them inside. Robert Gallery comes to mind. Guy couldn’t play tackle in the NFL. Goes to guard and was dominant.

I'm cracking up reading some of these posts. People acting like they should be sitting in Khan's chair instead of him.

I hear ya but let’s be truthful , as far as the draft is concerned , khan hasn’t really knocked it out the park yet either.

You don't move a round one LT to guard and play an undrafted free agent at LT unless both the #1 pick doesn't pan out at the position and look terrible AND the undrafted guy plays far better than expected. Cook played well, but you have to try Fauntanu there and give him some time back at his natural position. Now, had Fautanu played RT or been drafted in say the third round then fine, but LT is a premier position and Fauntanu was a round 1 talent at THAT position. Just my thoughts!
I don’t think you hand a player a position based on draft status. Like Jarvis Jones and Terrell Edmunds. Never has that line of thought worked out for us.

This guy really likes Max.

No doubt at all that Iheanachor moves in an unreal fashion for a guy 6'6", 321 lbs.

damn he was Dominant with a big D (don't get all aroused you fruity cakes) on that game, way more aggressive than his college tape. Really like this attitude growth (again, no **** thoughts haha) from the kid

This could end up like 2023. Whiffs on the heigh ceiling low floor OT in BJ but then hit on Joey Porter, Benton, Washington and Herbig.

Hopefully Max pans out. I’m just stating the fact he’s a very high risk player. I would honestly spend the money on a coach to just work with him after/before practice. Spend the 100k on a coach who just watches film and does all the extras to get this kid coached up and fast.

Highlight reels rarely show the real story. Watch the AZ state vs Texas Tech. Max gets abused.

that's why I said, I think quite clearly, that it was a big difference with his college tape.

Also, you made me go to the texas tech to find out he didn;t get abused at all, lost two reps agains the #2 draft pick (Bailey, 14.5 sacks last season and 19.5 TFL) only and was decent against the run. What's your definition of abuse?

I agree. Tomlin would never do this, so we are all doubtful. MM might just do it.

Story seems to be the Steelers wanted WR Lemon. I just don't get that one.

I'm not a scout so I'll start with that but Lemon is 5-11, 190 and runs a 4.5 40 speed. If they want that type of player, that is Roman Wilson size and Wilson is faster. Why have they refused to give him a shot but then look to use a first round pick to draft his duplicate???? Personally, I'm glad we didn't get Lemon because I don't see him as the difference maker.

What am i missing?
I think Wilson was a slot guy trying to play outside because of Tomlin. I think Wilson could be a good slot receiver.

Fautanu shot is going towards the centerfield fence, let's see if it's a double or a HR
I am also thankful that our scouts are at games. Watch them …that and extensive game tape and actually know what they are looking at.

I will trust them over the arm chair GMs that think their bizarre opinions are facts.

Moving Fautanu to LT would not be the wisest move. The right side of Frazier is solid with he and McCormick. They have chemistry and that is something I wouldn’t change. If McCarthy and Campen are wise they would leave the right side alone.
Whoever is at LG whether it be Spencer Anderson, Hoffman or a player to be named later, let them work with Iheanachor work with them and build that chemistry
