Robbed!!

He was stretching as he was going down. Its not like he caught the ball and crawled into the EZ. To me him catching / reaching into ther EZ is all one motion and therefore needed to establish the catch. The ball moved and at least the nose hit the ground so was an incomplete pass. I do not think he did a football move before the ball crossed the line

So you have conclusive evidence that the nose of the ball touched the ground and that James did not have his hand under the ball as well? I'll wait for your video troll.

Exactly, it's called a TD on the field, there were no conclusive views that he lost possession

wonder why that ref crew was picked for this game? The same crew who had that Jet call all ****** up. Somewhere someone had a agenda.

What's the difference?????

So nobody is even talking about the blunder by Ben throwing the pick when we had a sure 3 pts

He's trying to blame Haley when he should have never thrown it into that traffic.

Not much. Both were going to the ground. Grimble lost the ball after hitting the ground. If anything, Grimble's should be no TD and JJ's should have stood.

Whatever... terrible call but you don't throw a needless pass into traffic when you can win the game on a chip shot field goal. That's on Haley or Ben or whoever. Dumbest thing I've ever seen.

A FG got us a tie, not a W.

It would've only tied the game

I don’t understand why you’re having such a hard time understanding this.... once a player makes a football move... i.e. reaching the ball across the goal line while clearly possessing it with two hands... the securing the catch aspect of the play is completed. That’s why the rule stipulates “make a football move”.... he clearly did that when he reached it across. It doesn’t matter one little bit if the ball touches the ground while making a football move , only while securing the catch.

there is no "football move" when you fall to the ground and don't secure the catch - it was never a catch when the ball hit the ground

no catch

you are only seeing what u want to see

no catch thus no football move

no catch because he lunged with the ball instead of putting two hands around and and securing it before he let it hit the ground

no catch

One problem....you aren't winning the game with a fb, only going to OT. Simply put, our QB needs to know clocking in that situation results in 4th down and a fg. They should have been prepared to run 2 plays at the end.

Tucking the ball is a football move. Stretching out is a football move. I count two.

NFL’s officiating supervisor explains overturning Steelers’ touchdown

It’s a rule Cowboys fans know too well, having had a similar catch by Dez Bryant overturned by replay in the 2014 playoffs against the Packers. Lions fans can explain it too, having had a game-winning catch by Calvin Johnson reversed on replay in a game against the Bears in 2010.

“Roethlisberger completes a pass to James, and James is going to the ground as he reaches the goal line,” Riveron said. “That’s the key here. He is going to the ground. By rule, to complete the process of the catch, he must survive the ground. By that, we mean he must maintain control of the football. . . . He does put the ball over the goal line extended. Once he gets there, he loses control of the football, and then the ball hits the ground. . . .

So therefore, two things occur: He loses control of the football, and the ball touches the ground prior to him regaining control. Therefore, the ruling on the field of a touchdown was changed to an incomplete pass.”

Some are you are still living in the past. There's no such thing as a "football move" anymore. They removed that verbiage from the rulebook years ago.
To me the only question is how do they define "losing control?" Didn't look like he lost control to me even if the ball moved some.

i watch a lot of games.....still have not seen a video that is indisputable that Jesse did not have his hand under the ball....

ARTICLE 3. COMPLETED OR INTERCEPTED PASS

A player who makes a catch may advance the ball. A forward pass is complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) if a player, who is inbounds:

  • secures control of the ball in his hands or arms prior to the ball touching the ground; and
  • touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands; and
  • maintains control of the ball after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, until he has the ball long enough to clearly become a runner. A player has the ball long enough to become a runner when, after his second foot is on the ground, he is capable of avoiding or warding off impending contact of an opponent, tucking the ball away, turning up field, or taking additional steps (see 3-2-7-Item 2).
Note: If a player has control of the ball, a slight movement of the ball will not be considered a loss of possession. He must lose control of the ball in order to rule that there has been a loss of possession.

If the player loses the ball while simultaneously touching both feet or any part of his body to the ground, it is not a catch.

Item 1. Player Going to the Ground. A player is considered to be going to the ground if he does not remain upright long enough to demonstrate that he is clearly a runner. If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball until after his initial contact with the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete.

What's the difference?????

Difference is he caught the ball at the five yard line and ran at least three steps before he got to the end zone.

You're right Spike. The Steelers should never pass for scores again. It is clear it's virtually impossible to control a ball through the catch. All running inside the 20. **** your 5-wide. It can't work.

Here's the problem. This language is all intended to take blame off the officials to try to take the judgement out of the call. Nothing more. It is borne out of previous blown calls and trying to find cover for refs.

I would argue that James did have the ball long enough to become a runner and his lunge was that secondary act of a runner, therefore, play is over when runner crosses the goal.

But that would be a judgement call and the refs want to hide behind absurdities.

This rule is about the same as the one written on a Q-Tip pack that says Do not Stick in your Ear.

My 5 Wide did its job.

Our pathetic pass defense that gave up 11 pts in 5 minutes and got their ***** shredded again didnt help

This season is over

Go Jags, maybe they can beat the Pats in Foxoboro, we never will with AB crippled

Even when we beat patriots, we don't beat the patriots.

5 wide didn't do its job. When you're up by 8 against the patriots you still gotta try to win the game in the fourth quarter.. Running the damn ball on 2nd and 23 with your third string back isn't doing that. Just like Romo said, throw the ball and try and at least get a manageable third down. Right there I knew good chance we lose.
