Pouncey Calls out Harrison

Some of yinz will go to the grave defending that malcontent.

He went out of his way to be a tool at the worst possible moment.

And when teammates speak out against you?

Really says it all.

I wish him luck after football and off the field.

On the field he can kiss my ***, **** him and the rest of the cheats.

Dupree said Harrison would leave the stadium as soon as he found out he was inactive the past four or five weeks, often didn’t practice or attend meetings and rarely would come in the locker room. Said he wouldn’t visit Ryan Shazier in hospital, either.

Dupree “I don’t know how many secrets about the playbook Harrison could give to (the Patriots) because I never saw him in meetings.”

Dupree said Harrison made it clear he didn’t want to be a mentor and help him and TJ Watt from day 1... “That was the reason he was on the team in the first place.”

Jarvis Dupree better kiss all the *** he can

smh

My goodness. Bud Dupree is BLASTING Harrison on his radio show. I'm not going to paste them all on here, just go check out Paul Zeise's timeline: https://twitter.com/PaulZeise

Dupree definitely letting it all hang out. Like Harrison not practicing when it became clear he was going to be inactive or Harrison not attending meetings.

Wow. there you go. The reason why he was let go. He was doing more harm to the team than good.

Deebo did a lot of [crap] to get released': Steelers go off on James Harrison

James Harrison
Jacob Klinger | jklinger@pennlive.com
PITTSBURGH — Before James Harrison got released on Saturday, before he told a reporter he wouldn’t have signed for the Steelers if he knew how little he would play for them, the 39-year-old outside linebacker began to burn his bridge with the organization, multiple Steelers said Wednesday.

“Tweet this out to him,” Bud Dupree said. “Deebo got released because he made himself get released. Deebo didn’t get released because we just released him. Deebo did a lot of [crap] to get released.”

Dupree, in particular, balked at the narrative that Harrison had been hard done by the Steelers. He was cheered on by teammates in the locker room as he did so. Around the room after practice on Wednesday players emphasized that Pittsburgh didn’t just cut Harrison on Saturday for a roster spot.

He contributed to his own release before signing with the New England Patriotson Tuesday, they said. And while Harrison going to the Patriots did cut them team a little deeper, Maurkice Pouncey said they weren’t worried about seeing him in an AFC Championship game.

There was a clear distance between Harrison and the organization this season, teammates said. It was obvious, Artie Burns said, in what Harrison decided not to do with the team.

“Just the things that keep you on a team, on a great organization like this,” Burns said. You know got to, we’re trying to win a lwoB repuS over here so we’re not really trying to deal with all the small petty stuff I guess.

So I guess they were getting aggravated with what he was doing and whatever he was doing and they decided to release him.”

Harrison played just 40 defensive snaps this season in five of a possible 14 games. He was frequently listed on the team’s practice participation report as nursing injuries that he – on at least one occasion – joked about the existence of on Instagram.

When Harrison didn’t practice this season, it wasn’t a matter of him being rested by coaches by coaches, Dupree said. He chose not to practice.

“Hell yeah,” Dupree said. “He was just chillin’.”

“Put three questions. Just say, ‘Where has he been the whole season? How many times did he practice? And — ‘I ain’t even going to do it,” Dupree said. “I don’t want to tarnish his character. Because he’s a good dude, at heart. He’s a good dude at heart, but he let pride sort of get in his way.”

Dupree struggled to stifle laughter, then didn’t, when asked if Harrison had become any less of a mentor. He shouted to teammates across the locker room, “They said was he a mentor?” then walked away from a scrum of reporters.

He never was, Dupree said.

“I thought Deebo was really going to be — I looked up to Deebo as a high-end individual, as a real mentor, but I just — I never got that back,” he said.

Anthony Chickillo also said his relationship with Harrison didn’t change in his two-plus seasons with him. Dupree noted he still loves Harrison as a person, but that Harrison’s early morning workouts were just his. The veteran wasn’t helping the 2015 first-round pick refine his technique, Dupree said.

“I mean, yeah, you see somebody working hard every day, you see him coming in early, but what does that install in you? You know what I’m saying? Everybody’s not a morning person.

“Everybody don’t wake up at 4:30, but how can you help me?” Dupree said. “You choose not to.”

When asked if he thought Harrison damaged his legacy, center Maurkice Pouncey had a quick answer.

“He erased himself,” he said. “He erased his own legacy.”

Harrison played parts of 14 of his 15 NFL seasons with the Steelers. He was the 2008 Defensive Player of the Year and a five-time Pro Bowl selection. He also holds the franchise sack record. When a few reporters questioned Pouncey’s assertion that Harrison altered his own perception, Pouncey’s eyebrows shot up.

“You don’t think so?” Pouncey said. “I would think so as a fan.”

But, came the follow-up, if the Steelers released Harrison, how was he responsible for destroying his legacy? Pouncey elaborated, explaining, as Dupree did, that Harrison “wanted out.”

“It’s not like [the Steelers] got together and said, ‘We’re going to cut James,’” Pouncey said. “He needs to come out and admit that.”

Pouncey said he knows head coach Mike Tomlin and the Steelers leadership are trying to be respectful about the situation, but he added the players are “going to speak the truth.”

“If he didn’t want to be here, just come out and say it,” Pouncey said. “Don’t make it look like it’s the team’s fault or the organization. The organization wanted to get rid James Harrison? Let’s be serious. Come on now.”

The comments from many of Harrison’s former teammates on Wednesday stood in sharp contrast to what quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said on his radio show on Tuesday. Roethlisberger said he was “shocked” that the Steelers released Harrison.

“I've played with that guy for a long time," Roethlisberger said then. "He's one of the best that I've ever played with. Great teammate. So, it was shocking. I was a little surprised."

Other players had a more nuanced opinion of Harrison’s departure. No one interviewed for this story shared Roethlisberger’s perspective.

“That was his decision to go to the Patriots,” said offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva. “I don’t know if he’s trying to send a message. I don’t know if he was trying to go to a playoff team. I don’t know, that’ll be for him to answer. I’m not going to answer for him. He’s my teammate who I respected.”

Dupree said Harrison going to the Patriots in particular did annoy Steelers, but it was more the notion that he was forced out.

Safety Mike Mitchell said, simply, that he didn’t care where Harrison signed.

“Everybody gotta do what they gotta do,” he said. “He made a decision. He’s a big boy. I probably wouldn’t have done it for $59,000.”

Pouncey appeared incredulous at the idea that at the idea that Harrison’s actions were a distraction, or had an affect on what he called “a very mature team.”

“Ain’t no problem, a guy don’t want to be here?” Pouncey said, all but scoffing. “We don’t care. Bye. Have fun.”

Come on antdrewjosh, these players are all making this **** up to cover Tomlin's ***. Did you not get Spike's memo? Btw, I think we've lost brother Spike for good. He may be dipping his toe in at PatsNation, trying to get in on the action. You never know, maybe he looks better in blue & grey or whatever the **** their colors are.

Never seen a so-called Steelers fan turn on his team like what we've seen from Spike this season. Anthem controversy? Check. **** the Steelers, **** Tomlin et al. Deebo whines and ******* his way out? Check. **** the Steelers, **** Tomlin et al. I'm beginning to think Spike simply loathes this team. Maybe he's a masochist hanging on this long, enduring the constant anger, pain and suffering rooting for the Steelers.

Jeez, see what a 12-3 record, 50 sacks and a first round bye gets you?

As soon as James retires, this will be all forgotten. I wonder what Brett Keisel has to say, that's one of his best buddies.

No, I think he burned a lot of bridges. He will never be looked at the same way by fans. I know I sure won't.

Agreed. I think a whole lot of people are thinking what Pouncey put into words today:

"Ain’t no problem, a guy don’t want to be here?” Pouncey said, all but scoffing. “We don’t care. Bye. Have fun.”

I don’t know.... sounds like he was being a dick, but I for one can’t just discount what he’s been for this team over the years. In his prime, an absolute beast that made, what I consider, the greatest play in Super Bowl history that most definitely won the game for us. That interception created a 14 point difference and gave all the momentum to Pittsburgh going in at halftime. There’s no doubt in my mind if Arizona gets even a field goal there, we lose that game. As far as him signing with New England... it doesn’t surprise me considering he went to play for the friggin Bengals for cryin out loud. I’m sure he was pissed at the Steelers when he made that move. He’s just one of those kinda guys I guess.

And as far as Dupree goes.... him talking **** about Harrison is like Neil O’Donnell talking smack about Joe Montana. If Dupree becomes 1/5th the player 92 was in his prime, I’d be surprised.... pleasantly surprised... but surprised.

The Steelers should have cut Deebo a long time ago. If there were any mistakes made in all of this, that was it. Sounds like he's been poisoning the well far too long. Disappointed Tomlin/Colbert didn't shitcan his subordinate *** months ago. Huge disappointment, Deebo was one of my all time favorite players. Really sucks to see what his true nature was, here at the twilight of his Steelers career.

Pretty much exactly as I thought. The guy wants to play, can't blame him for that. Steelers should have released him rather than stringing him along, but things don't always go as planned of course.

I appreciate his contributions to the team and wish him well, just not against us. He'll always be a Steeler to me.

Sounds like good ridence that he is gone. Probably should have been a while back by the sounds of it. HOWEVER, it makes a very clear case for suspended with or without pay. If you could make a case for a suspension where he wouldnt count against the 53 even better. If not let him count. But Coach Mike, did you not learn anything from the Legarrett Blount fiasco. C'mon. Why let him play and possibly beat you or possibly win a championship if he is being an *******. Send him home. End of problem and story.

That's one guy's opinion, so who knows. Tomlin always spoke very highly of him before this.

Is telling the truth "talking ****" about Harrison. I mean if what Dupree says is true:
1. Harrison failed to uphold Steeler tradition of mentoring the young guys who come in at your position. Now, think about this because Jarvis kind of hinted at that during his time here too.
2. Harrison skipped practices when it didn't look like he was going to play.
3. Harrison skipped position meetings for most of the year ....
Ya think maybe skipping practice and meetings played a little bit into WHY Deebo didn't get playing time? I mean what kind of message does it send to a young defense to allow James to get away with that ****.

Pretty much exactly as I thought. The guy wants to play, can't blame him for that. Steelers should have released him rather than stringing him along, but things don't always go as planned of course.

This is pretty much how I feel too. This is disappointing to hear but he will be in the Steelers ring of honor once he retires and the pissed off fans will come around to forgive him.
Just remember what he's done in the past, he was an absolute force and I'll never forget that. He's always a Steeler in my book.

I take Dupree with a grain of salt. I havent seen him as a mature guy at times but that is a gut feeling. However, Pouncey is another story. If he says James ****** off on meetings and didnt practice. That's good enough for me. But I still wouldnt give him his wish. Suspended.

That's one guy's opinion, so who knows.

Read what's coming out of the locker room. Sadly, it's unanimous. Multiple players on both sides of the ball coming out and setting the record straight on Deebo. This is a sad, somewhat tragic ending for one of the franchise's great players. The dude just flat-out got selfish and decided to turn against the team, seemingly early on this season. Most coaches would have suspended him, or cut him months ago. Sounds like Tomlin and the front office went out of their way to bend the rules to appease a lwoB repuS hero, an all-time franchise great. Harrison turned around and thanked them by spitting in their faces and signing with the Pats. Pretty ****** up situation, not something any Steelers fan - or Deebo fan - can be happy about.
