Pouncey Calls out Harrison

Read what's coming out of the locker room. Sadly, it's unanimous. Multiple players on both sides of the ball coming out and setting the record straight on Deebo. This is a sad, somewhat tragic ending for one of the franchise's great players. The dude just flat-out got selfish and decided to turn against the team, seemingly early on this season. Most coaches would have suspended him, or cut him months ago. Sounds like Tomlin and the front office went out of their way to bend the rules to appease a lwoB repuS hero, an all-time franchise great. Harrison turned around and thanked them by spitting in their faces and signing with the Pats. Pretty ****** up situation, not something any Steelers fan - or Deebo fan - can be happy about.

The truth I'm guessing is somewhere between his version and theirs. If they signed him saying "You'll have mostly a mentoring role" then fine, he has nothing to complain about. According to him they kept telling him he was going to play. Now, the other side of that is no one is guaranteed playing time, you have to earn it. I tell my 14 year son that all the time. But if he thinks he can play elsewhere and the Steelers weren't going to play him, I can hardly call that "selfish". Not everyone is cut out for a mentoring role.

Anyway, he's not trashing the team, the front office and coaching staff aren't trashing him, sounds like it was mostly an amicable split so why these guys feel the need to go out and stir up **** with the media I have no idea. If I fault Tomlin for anything it's this kind of bullshit that he hasn't been able to get under control.

Read the PG article about him. He asked to be released in the first couple weeks and multiple times after that.
They should have granted his request early in the year. I doubt Patriots would have picked him up for one and this all wouldn't be blown out of proportion like it is now.
I can't fault the guy for wanting to play especially when they kept telling him he was going to get snaps and nothing came of it.

.

Like many here... I have been a HUGE fan of Deebo. However, this just stinks. I really expected more from him. Clearly, Troy had a different perspective on what he still brought as a Safety in the last year... but Troy didn't shoot a hole in the bottom of his own boat!

James handled this poorly. Really tragic.

I know the situations are drastically different... but I see aspects of the "LeGarrette Blount" deal from Deebo's side.

Teams do not sign a guy and say hey man we want you to be diactivated and help the other guys. You are basically an insurance policy. Im gonna be dead honest about this part. Mike Tomlin is absolutely ****** in managing snaps, preserving players and spreading the wealth. It was the exact same with Blount. Blount was right. What he did was ****** wrong. But Tomlins only strategy is to put his best player on the field every play. I dont blame Blount or Harrison for being pissed. But you cant do that. And how Tomlin couldnt have learned from the last experience is totally beyond me.

The fact that he isn't everyone's best friend doesn't surprise me, I never saw him as the warm and fuzzy type. Seems like some people have to find a villain in everything, the reality is sometimes things just don't go according to plan. I just don't see a villain here on either side.

Nothing in that gazette article makes the pain go away of what a ******** Deebo was to our young players coming in. Or that he set the worst possible example for his teammates, skipping practices & meetings, bailing out early from games, basically not giving two ***** about the team. Nor does it explain why he wouldn't reach out to Shazier, at such a difficult time. It just strengthens the notion Harrison is a typical me-first selfish prima donna. Good luck to him getting snaps with the Pats, if that's all that matters to him at this stage. He burned so many bridges it's hard to think he didn't do it on purpose or wasn't aware of his actions. I've lost all respect for the man, for whatever it's worth. Deebo - great Steeler for 99,8% of his career then went full blown ******* at the end. Great job Deebo, you went and ****** it all up.

I hope the players shut up and play football.. Bud can stop tattle taling to the media about everything he did wrong now. Right or wrong he sounds like a whiny girl rambling on about James.
Everyone in the locker room knows what James did, no need to keep feeding the media and making this a distraction. Use it as motivation going forward.
Bottom line, shut up and play football now.

I'm a Steelers fan first and foremost. I have the utmost respect for everything he did for my favorite team. Make no mistake though, he wanted out and got it. **** him from here out, he's a ******* *Patsie for crying out loud. All you guys talking **** about the organization, staff and other players because of the way they handled a part time, non contributing this season, malcontent kill me. To each their own, Tomlin handled this just fine and the team is 12-3 with a home playoff game. If AB gets back healthy we have a legit shot to win it all, unless that's not what we want now? Unreal. Again, **** that dude, he's a *****Patriot.

See, that's the thing though; Porter and Tomlin, both, have mentioned that Harrison would be "on a pitch count," so to speak. They've reiterated many times that he wasn't going to be a starter, and put into a situational/mentor sort of role. Not to mention he could've put two-and-two together when they drafted three outside linebackers in the first round in three out of four years. He had to have known that he wasn't going to be playing a prominent role, if much at all. I feel like he's got nobody to blame but himself for that.

Hmmm, I seem to remember Porter basically saying after Watt was drafted and Rookie Mini-Camp that James wasn't going to see the type/amount of snaps that Deebo was anticipating. I also stick to the idea that if you stop going to practice and stop attending meetings, there's no freakin way you should be rewarded with playing time. That's like giving a toddler a cookie every time they throw a fit.

Billicheat will use him as a pass rusher during the playoffs and cut him in training camp. Write it down.

Nope...it is selfish. You ride the season out and then do everything in your power to get your release. What he did is he definition of selfish.

Dude probably won't even play a meaningful snap.

It may be hard to believe, but these guys can talk about something to the media and still play the game of football. I love when players actually share how they really feel about something rather than the normal BS coach speak. Makes things a lot more interesting.

Tomlin did rest Dupree and Watt. With Moats and Chick. The players they determined were best equipped to be their top reserve OLBs. Maybe in part because of James checking out on practices and meetings?

An @NFL player can collect "Termination Pay” once in his career. TP means a player who has 4+ years of service AND is released after Week 1 gets his guaranteed salary from the team who cut him - plus his new salary. James Harrison, I was told, will collect two salaries now.

10:45 AM - 28 Dec 2017

So not only did we cut him but we will be paying him if we play the Patriots in the post season.

Eh, whatever.

I'm not going to ignore years of contributions because of how he reacted to a one season situation that sucked for him too.

Bellichick signed him for one reason only and that's to get into the heads of the team, fans and coaching staff and cause a huge distraction. Looks like that's working out exactly according to plan.

Bud Dupree Claims James Harrison Wouldn’t Visit Shazier In Hospital, Didn’t Attend Meetings

BY ALEX KOZORA DECEMBER 27, 2017 AT 07:10 PM

Dave Bryan has a really good article detailing several of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ grievances over James Harrison, tearing down the facade of a really good teammate and hard worker. Throughout the evening, more players have been vocal about their problems with Harrison but I’m not sure anyone has so thoroughly blasted him as much as Bud Dupree has.

Earlier, we passed along Dupree’s quote of Harrison choosing to leave Pittsburgh, essentially forcing his way out of the city so he could go play. But Dupree has gotten even more specific. And if true, a really terrible look for Harrison.

This tweet from 93.7’s Paul Zeise, which I don’t think I need to add much context to.

Wow. Just…wow.

Assuming it’s true, and there’s no reason to believe Dupree is lying about any of it, it’s actually kinda surprising it took this long for the team to dump Harrison (and then fall on the sword in the immediate aftermath when the organization came under intense scrutiny).

And when it comes to not seeing Shazier, I can only hope Harrison simply (somehow) wasn’t able to find the time and didn’t intentionally slight his injured teammate.

Dupree continued, bluntly stating why he wasn’t concerned about Harrison giving the Patriots any playbook secrets.

He’s also said that Harrison didn’t serve as a mentor in any capacity, unwilling to help the young guys out of fear for them taking away his job.

No one in that locker room is mincing words. Harrison wasn’t just unliked, he seemed hated. And aside from a couple guys at the top, the general vibe is that it’s a good thing #92 is out the door.

He signed him because their linebackers suck and they needed a pass rusher. Literally everyone said after Harrison was released the Patriots would sign him for this reason. Not one said it was to play mind games with a team they may not even play again.

Have we ever had a team with this much behind the scenes and public drama? Seems like Tomlin has no control of the team culture whatsoever. If what they are saying is true Harrison should have been gone a long time ago.

Yeah, except he sounds like a whiny ***** airing all that out. Talk about it after the season if you want to but no one but Bud is talking about that to reporters.
Pouncey spoke a little on it but didn't go into this great details. Bud sounds like his feelings are hurt because James didn't mentor him.
