I can admit that it took me a few seasons to catch onto the intellectual in-game know how that Tomlin lacks. I was one of those who believed the players play, but over the past 5-6 seasons, seeing the same show again and again and again, despite the uptick in talent... well... that's coaching.
and when we had a scapegoat that was inconsequental...
and a HOF coach leave...
and a HOF QB leave with little fanfare only to be replaced by a nervous FO pick...
and a HOF safety bail...
it opens eyes. Now the former players are saying we suck. It was bad enough when that turd POS Edelman said our defensive schemes havent changed since he played... but now our own are turning.
I used to ask - if we fire Tomlin now, who would we replace him with? It was a legit question, and not one to defend him in any way. Tomlin does have some sort of appeal to current players - probably his coach speak and ability to make guys feel good about themselves. I'll admit that Tomlin likely knows more about Xs and Os than many people here, but he doesnt transfer that knowledge to game day. Or so it appears.
I was all about letting Mike go last season and bringing in Ben Johnson.
The next name to surface should be Chris Shula from the Rams, Todd Monken from the Rats or Joe Brady from Buffalo. Hell, I'd even flirt with Zach Orr from Baltimore, too.
