Holy ****, we got our TE!!! Eric Ebron signs with Steelers

A lot of it probably stems from his Detroit days where, let’s face it, the Lions are the worst organization in football (maybe all of sports). The fans hated this guy from the moment he was drafted simply because he was a TE. He had 0 chance to succeed in Detroit, and the fans, and media took every opportunity to lament that.

You'd think with everyone against him, he would want to come out and show them he could play. But he's been on two teams... both wanted him gone. He's known for dropping passes. Just look up "Ebron dropping passes" on Youtube and prepared to be amazed. He will make the occasional good catch. But he is infamous for his dropped passes. That's not the fans or the media's fault.

I like the signing because it's relatively a low cost, low risk move. The Jaguars gave Tyler Eifert more money, though I believe it can basically be a one-year deal, but the idea is the Steelers got a pretty good bargain. Another positive with Ebron is he doesn't have to be a dominant No. 1 tight end because the Steelers have a good second option with McDonald. With that said, we all heard that great stories about Moncrief last year and he was a total bust. I'm not expecting Ebron to come in here and put up monster numbers. Instead, I want to see the team have two capable players for a 2 TE set and I think they have that now.

The problem is that Ebron is not a blocker and is a mediocre pass catcher. I get that he is cheap but he's had one good year. The other years he was average at best. He's also injury prone. He's been hurt every single year he's been in the league. To me he's one of those guys that looks like a football player. But on the field you don't see it.

There was another TE that came in with a pension for dropping passes...

So? There are 6th round QBs that are considered GOATS. Don't see how that is relevant.

The depth is still better than the Steelers have had in recent years.

A lot of the time Ebron had iffy QBs throwing to him, let's see what he will look like with BigBen under center.

Who would be better of the two......... EBRON or VANNETT ? Money aside, just football player evaluation.

The Steelers underutilized TEs in the passing game anyway, so this signing is meh.

What has vannet ever shown?

NOTHING but he didn't have a QB or OC that helped him at all. My pick of the two is definately EBRON and the $$$$$$ that goes with him. I like what slash just said, better depth than Jesse James as well.

This is a no brainer improvement to a position that needed upgrade. TE isn't a starter and depth position. You need !a and b. to many 12 personnel etc. He was the best available at the price range in a spot they needed someone. No question.

Yep he got a 4 year 25 million deal and produced 142 yards and zero TDs.

Then Detroit drafts TJ Hockenson 6 weeks later...... Jesse probably thought wow I got my payday and I am going to lead this team and be all I can be.........draft comes ...balloon bursts . For all the TE talent Detroit has had over the years they sure don't use it very well.

Just sit back and watch the air show when Ben returns to form. It should be an attractive TE duo when put him and McDonald in together...

it could be. or he could drop a lot and be injured
1 year vs 5........id wager hes closer to the 5 years than the 1

i disagree with the no chance to succeed.
lions suck and their fans are stupid, but there are supportive.
fans filll that stadium every single game and get really loud. even tho they are cheering for ****.
they would love to have a great player on the team.
all ebron had to do was catch the ball

It's a risk at $12 million, but Ben needs reliable targets to throw to. As long as Ebron limits the drops, it should be a solid presence.

this is unbelievable not true.............
the 4 years with stafford, stafford was better than bens
the one year with luck, luck was better than ben
the first 2 games with brissett, brissett was better than bens first 2 games last year
ebron has had better qb play than ben, during the exact same time period

squid kid, BEN has a tendency to RAISE players up where as STAFFORD does NOT. Statistically speaking, you can have Stafford, football player, I'll take BEN.

GOSH dang BEN.

Not really, the way the contract is structured his cap hit this season is 3,5M, next season his dead cap is 2,5M more so if he completely sucks this season in reality he can be cut and only cost 6M. The other 6M are completely optional by the team if they want to keep him in 2021

I dunno. Maybe the coaches helped out McDonald and can do the same with Ebron. It's not like he just showed up and the uniform made his hands better.

If a TE joins another team with a pension for dropping passes, sure not really relevant. But the fact that McDonald can't to OUR team with that issue, and it hasn't been an issue... Seems kind of relevant to me

What? Stafford has a career 62.5 Comp. % (When Ebron was there it never dipped below 65.7), 41,000 yards, a 2.4 int % and a 4.5 TD %.

Seriously some of you guys are just odd. People defend Winston and his horrible numbers but rag on Stafford? WTF? Compare Stafford to Ben and see what you get.

Ben has played 5 more seasons but the numbers are close. Ben has less than 2% high comp. and he has less than 4% higher passer rating. But Ben has also played with a much better team with much better talent.
