first pick draft sim

Cant wait to see what he runs..will definitely be a ILB for us

I want to see his 3 cone and bench. As well as his vert , etc.

I have a gut feeling we will come away unimpressed.

colbert did down play the depth of this draft at ILB

Gesicki is 6'-6" and put up a 41" vertical. Dude can go up and get the ball. No one can cover that. Would take him over Vance any day. I see Vance missing at least a third of this coming season and probably more than 50%.

I did first pick with one trade with NE.

RD1(NE)- Leighton Vander Esch ILB Boise St.
Vander Esch seems to be a well rounded ILB. He has good speed, size, hips, and is very instinctual. He can blitz, cover, and sniff out the run. The reason I think he’d be around later in the 1st round is his level of competition. But you could say his two best games came at the end of the season vs his two toughest opponents. Vs Fresno and Oregon he accumulated 28 tackles, 20 solo, 1 sack, 1 int, and 1 pass deflection.

RD2(NE)- Harold Landry OLB BC
Watt looks like a keeper but decisions have to be made on Chick and Dupree. Landry gives the Steelers a third option. Maybe they option Bud and see what Landry can do. Or long term but reasonable sign Chickillo with Landry able to work his way up to starter. Landry has a great burst and nice dip move. Keeps his hands active. Reminds me of a taller Debo.

RD2(NE)- Ron Jones II RB USC
Are you sick of the Leveon Bell saga yet? I am. Tag him and run the wheels off. Next year we have Connor and RJ2 to compete. RJ2 is a home run hitter. Elite speed and once he hits that second gear, good bye. Decent pass protection. Only concerns are he didn’t catch a lot of passes surprisingly and if he can stand up to the NFL pounding.

RD5- Terrell Edmunds LB/SS VT
Trumaine gets all the hype but I like the film I saw of Terrell playing river at VT. I think in sub packages using him as an ILB or Safety would be very cool. Edmunds is quick, good hands, loose hips, aggressive tackler. He’s just a tweener but if you use him in those formations where we missed Shazier and get VW off the field I think it’s a win for us.

RD5b- Tyler Conklin TE Central Michigan
Conklin is a former basketball player and his soft hands and body positioning shows it. Foot injury slowed him down but if he is fully healed could be a steal this late.

RD7- Quadree Henderson WR/returner Pitt
Henderson is an elite return man whom instantly gets AB off the field. Rogers is about 95% to be out on IR for at least most the next season. This leaves AB, JuJu, and Bryant as our top 3. Lets say they keep DHB as a special teamer that leaves Justin Hunter and Henderson fighting it out at #5. Henderson needs to work on his route tree but if they figure him to be a return man and slot guy he just needs to master a slant, drag, out/dig.

RD7b- David Bright OT Stanford
Bright has munch written all over his. Athletic, smart, and can play all 5 spots on the line. Our new Chris Hubbard.

Think Key has to answer for his time away issue that occurred.

But that could be next to nothing who knows.

I really like this draft. I think you got some real good value picks.

Big board (Composite)
Team Needs(NFL Mock)

28: R1P28 DL DA'RON PAYNE ALABAMA
60: R2P28 S MARCUS ALLEN PENN STATE
92: R3P28 RB KERRYON JOHNSON AUBURN
148: R5P11 LB MICAH KISER VIRGINIA
165: R5P28 LB SHAQUEM GRIFFIN CENTRAL FLORIDA
220: R7P2 WR RAY-RAY MCCLOUD CLEMSON
246: R7P28 P JK SCOTT ALABAMA

28: R1P28 RB RONALD JONES II USC
Draft fell kinda funny but IMO RJ2 is the only other back worthy of first round consideration. The only box he didn’t check off for me is weight at 5-11 205lbs. But I don’t think adding 7-10 pounds to his frame at 20 years old is out of the question. This solidifies Bell’s departure by 2019.

60: R2P28 LB LEIGHTON VANDER ESCH BOISE STATE
Doubt he’d still be on the board but If he was what a steal. Checks off all the boxes physically and production even only if for one season. My only concern is why wasn’t he starting earlier in his career??

92: R3P28 S ARMANI WATTS
TEXAS A&M
Finally go safety but Watts has tons of starting experience and might have went Pro last year if not for an injury.

148: R5P11 LB UCHENNA NWOSU
USC
Draft on potential here. We likely have Bud/Chick for one more more season so there’s decisions that must be made. But this gives us depth and he fits what Butler wants from OLB being able to rush and cover.

165: R5P28 TE IAN THOMAS
INDIANA
Thomas is a very talented player who is very unassuming. Needs to get more dog in him but he has all the physical ability.

220: R7P2 WR EQUANIMEOUS ST. BROWN NOTRE DAME
Huge dip in production once Kizer went pro but the 6-5 WR with sub 4.5 speed could be a late round gem.

246: R7P28 LB ANDRE SMITH
NORTH CAROLINA
Double down at ILB as VW is a free agent after this year. Smith has that buck downhill ability but has a little more coverage ability making him scheme diverse.

This would be a fine draft. Carter is underrated, and Thomas could be a 10 year starter.

Fell to me and have to jump on. Need, value and potential to be a super star.

Round 2 Pick 28: Jones II, Ronald, RB, Southern California (A)
This probably means goodbye to Bell. Home run hitting RB that we are missing.

Round 3 Pick 32 (BUF): Thomas, Ian, TE, Indiana (A+)
Thomas has huge potential so let’s have him sit a season or two and develop.

Round 4 Pick 21 (BUF): Avery, Genard, ILB, Memphis (A)
Waited for value and Avery has tons of upside. He really stepped up his game last year.

Round 5 Pick 11: Richardson, Will, OT, North Carolina State (A)
Gives Hawkins competition for the swing tackle position.

Round 5 Pick 28: Burnett, Deontay, WR, Southern California (A+)
Smooth athlete whom runs great routes and above average hands. Instant slot wr.

Round 7 Pick 2: J Hall, P, DT, Sam Houston State (A+)
Small school prospect who just dominated. Hargrave 2.0

Round 7 Pick 28: Kalambayi, Peter, OLB, Stanford (A+)
Freak athlete who’s production never matched his potential. Gives the Steelers someone to mold and perhaps push for playing time.

from what I'm seeing daily now Van Eshe is going to be a top 20 pick, I think Seattle will not let him slip to rebuild their linebacking corps, he for Carroll could be the key building piece to build around, while in cincy not only to screw us they will take. I am reading more thier shoulder concerns with Smith and like Foster he may fall from a sure top 10 to the bottom of rnd 1, read Evans 40 will vary between a 4.68-4.72, but he moves well side to side and hits like a truck, can't replace the type of speed as Shazier but teamed with Williams they would be thumpers that would wear a rb down, maybe Evans could be a quicker version of earl holmes.
