Let's see how we do against "the best" in the championship month. I am totally prepared to be completely surprised by excellence down the stretch.
Never said Tomlin was terrible. Just wanted to point out how biased that article was. Most of the high praise in there was common sense stuff that you or I could figure out, and most certainly what I'd expect from any decent NFL head coach.
I can't say I agree with every part of your list there, but I will concede that Tomlin's done a good job cutting back on the penalties, which were out of control early in the season. And the defense has been better, for sure...but I think a huge part of that has been the development of Mike Hilton (which, no doubt you'll tell me is all because of Tomlin). However, the Steelers are still razor-thin at cornerback, and if something happens to Hilton and/or Haden, we'll surely see better quarterbacks start to eat this D alive again, unfortunately.
We've seen this movie before. Great regular season results. Long winning streaks. Never a losing record. Proud Tomlin lovers crowing about how wonderful the guy is...
But then, the playoff disappointments inevitably put the bashers back in the driver's seat, and we start the whole process over again the following season. I'm tired of that cycle, man. I think this team has enough talent as it's currently constituted to make a long postseason run. Let's keep our fingers crossed, and hope they do manage to stay healthy. If Tomlin has improved as much as you say he has, then come February, you'll never have to hear me criticize the man again.
Two things, to me, point to Tomlin being a good coach:
1. You don't get to the playoffs that many times being an average coach, I don't care whose players you take over;
2. You don't completely rebuild a team with nary a losing season over 11 years being an average coach.
I don't judge him by his ability to beat or not beat the *'s (the hoodie/brady version). They cheat. I thought Cowher was a good coach and he couldn't do it either and he had the benefit of being able to actually play defense.
Explain 'how' you replace Ryan Shazier proactively??? How about proactively being ready to change your Pro Bowl RB from smoking weed on the way to the game/airport??? Let's hear how you proactively change your WR roster when your top deep threat, too, is a weed head and gets suspended for the year??? Shall I go on???
We all know that there's BLUE CHIP talent and then there's talent - to think that ANY COACH can proactively pull another BLUE CHIPPER out of the ranks is quite hilarious...
But please do let us know how you would have proactively made these changes.
KEEP IN MIND THOUGH,.......the CHEATRIOTS started cheating upon hoodie's arrival. I think he actually approached kr*ft with his plan and kr*ft bought into it. Cohwer played cheating patriots teams ONLY difference it wasn't known at the time and thus way more successful. Just saying if the cheating is used on TOMLIN it also needs to be used on COHWER.
COACH TOMLIN can be a dang good coach and near elite. Right now he is on the cusp of being a great coach as he just needs to win the games he's suppose to win. This year he seems to be doing exactly what he needs to do and I'm all for it. He is going to put the CHEATRIOTS to rest and to bad there wasn't a ******* team in that division that could win it over the cheating ********.
Well I did like Vander Esch a lot...and Reid too. This Steelers draft isn't impressive so far.
My draft without trades is Reid, who's better than Edmunds, and Baker, who has the speed and range close to Shaizer's. Oh well...
Which team had or has more diva than the Steelers? And was Tomlin good at keeping them in check? Coaches that win Superbowls don't deal with diva for long. Some can get them to focused and play.
And you know I wanted to trade Bell is possible prior to the draft. Oh well...

Just because this has become WAY too comical NOT to point... AGAIN. Bell couldn't have been traded prior to the draft anymore than he could been traded leading up to the trade deadline. HE WASN'T UNDER CONTRACT, HE DIDN'T SIGN HIS TENDER! so there's that....AGAIN.
I think Coach should actually change his handle to insaniti, much more fitting.

How about Looney, then we could choose which character he is for which new thread he starts. If it's about Tomlin, he could be Yosemite Sam. About the draft where he's constantly proven wrong but refuses to admit he's wrong, Elmer Fudd. Threads he pats himself on the back, Daffy Duck. I mean the possibilities are literally endless...

FWIW, PFF has Fichtner among the top play callers in the NFL:

Certainly over the last couple of years.
Haley had us 4th in the league in scoring, too. Well, the players did...
Where does this come from? Tomlin didn't lose to the pats**** last year. In fact he's only played them once in the playoffs and that was 2 years ago. He's lost to Jax (Twice), Den (Twice), and the Rats. Then you have 3 years with no playoffs. So the pats**** are hardly the reason Tomlin hasn't been to another SB. I don't judge him by the pats**** either because he almost never plays them in the playoffs.
Exactly.
The Patriots are a mere pimple on the *** of Tomlin's postseason issues.
Getting bent over the table in January by offenses led by Tim Tebow and Blake Bortles is really inexcusable in the grand scheme of things.

Well coached teams do not lead the NFL in penalties.
