Excellent Article on Coaching

Refer to the fact that we lead the NFL in penalties. We only had three in this game.

Actually, we don't lead the league in penalties. You know who does? The 9-1 Kansas City Chiefs.

Do you really agree with Wexell on all the points he made? Yes or No?

Did I say I agreed on all the points Wexell made? And what does that even matter/mean? I thought it was a great article with lots of good little tidbits and optimism (I think my words verbatim).

With bone heads like Thomas and Mitchell Out, we should be doing better with penalties....

We've had 4 in 2 games. The way you normally look at stats is to only look at a small sample to look at something positive.....oh, wait, this might reflect well on Tomlin.....nvm. carry on with your usual bullshit. You KNOW in the ba k of your mind, when the O **** the bed in the first half, many teams might have mailed in the 2nd half, but

SUPER BOW WINNING MISTER HEAD COACH MICHAEL VINCENT LOMBARDI TOMLIN kept this team together, kept them together, kept them plugging along until Ben and the O righted themselves.

You dont want to admit it but, if you watched the game you saw it happen. Live with it.

Wow, KC is 10 ahead of us and still has to play tomorrow. I had no idea.

To be fair, they haven't had their bye yet. That comes next week. And we have to root for the Rams tongiht boys! Let's gain a game on KC!!

Definitely have to root for the Rams tonight.

Well coached teams do not lead the league in penalties!

Actually we lead the NFL in penalty yards against with 730 yards surrendered. No other team is close.

And we are 2nd overall in total penalties with 78, just behind Kanas City. That comes out to 7.8 penalties per game.

Your reaction to these facts are?

Its good to know you don't agree with him on all points.

my reaction is that the chiefs are in fact close - 50 yards close, with a total of 678 yards. That comes out to 8.4 penalties per game?

and they haven't played yet this week.

Must be cheating because ONLY the hoodie could pull something like that off............................

Salute the nation

The Steelers have double the penalty yards in comparison to New England. When you execute well, you have less penalties. I seriously wonder if hoodie studies the plays that are flagged most often, and has a " book " on which refs are prone to calling what. He might, that's a coach that gives his team every edge, legal and illegal.

Just kidding Coach, but I just don't feel like getting too serious or being critical of a team who's just won their last 6 games in a row.

Hoodie got stomped last week by a team that just got thrashed yesterday by 4 TDs.

Pitt is in average 5-6 penalty yards more a game than KC and at one full penalty (8.6) less a game. So one 5 yard penalty is the difference. But KC coaches are pretty terrible by your logic since they lead the league in penalties flagged.

But wait....if they lead in penalties, how can they be the best team in the AFC with poor coaching? Clarify that genius.

Leading the league in penalties was the argument.

Until Coach was found wrong, then he changed it to penalty yardage.

Notice how penalties don't matter anymore?

4 penalties the last 2 weeks. Looks like our coaching staff is getting a whole hell of a lot better!!

This team always is near the league lead in September. By the end of the year, it's a distant memory.

Great talent. It's rather elementary dear Watson. Just ask Barry Switzer. Our best coaches at Munchak and Randy Fichtner, Todd Haley was awful. Tomlin sticking with Haley for years shows what he knows about the offense.

On coaches challenges, Tomlin is 0-3 this year. I'm sure guys on this board could do better, just look at the stadium replay. This only adds to bad clock management.

Did I read it correctly. Did Tomlin say there were not defensive adjustments yesterday?

I don't think Tomlin is the worst head coach. I see him as average.

ahh.

Even in the **** show of penalties we had against KC, I think they only had one less penalty overall. IIRC, our yardage was quite a bit more, though.

Right. Being 1st or 2nd in flag or yardage surrendered is pretty bad. KC has a new Qb. Perhaps a reason we have 20 pre-snap penalties, and they have 28?

Ben is the rising tide that lifts all boats here, not Tomlin. With him, a 5 or 10 yard penalties is not necessarily a drive killer.

One thing we can all agree on, these ref suck!

We actually have 92 penalties, just 78 accepted..... Since almost half of those yards came in the first three games, I'm pretty happy with a 6 game winning streak averaging only 6 total penalties per game (I don't know how many accepted). Still less than KC who is, apparently, worse coached? Nice switch to yards though. Almost no one caught you changing your argument when proved wrong.

Burns had zero penalties yesterday......

LOL...hoodie as an argument for your cause. Cheaters don't count. ZERO penalties against, KC? That was a ******* joke. If you haven't see the *'s get away with crap other teams don't, that is even more proof that you don't watch games.

Deflect the argument when you’ve been shown the idiot you are.

What does Challenges have to do with penalties and penalty yards? Nothing genius. Keep getting schooled you moron.

And now you interpreted it wrong as usual, benching McCullers when he wasn’t getting the job done. Letting Hargrave ply nose and rush the passer. That’s called coaching decision. Your ego can’t cash the checks you write.

The most obvious pre-snap penalty is False Start. We had our first one yesterday, since game 6. That is a pretty good streak. We are first in the NFL on having the fewest FS.

Just asking a question. KC has more penalties, are they poorly coached? You said, well coached teams don't lead the league in penalties.

Most here think Pete Carrol is a good coach. His team lead the league in 2017. The penalties per game for 2017, the Steelers averaged one more whole penalty than the great Hoodie. WTF is up with that?

The difference between 1st and 13th was 1.2 penalties per game. Pretty minute difference overall. I can see why you changed your argument to yards.

So, lets look at that!

Steelers in 2017 were 9th in the league with the fewest penalty yards per game. The difference between the shittily coached Tomlin Team and the great hoodie was 7.5 yards per game. Not even a holding call. While I would agree that 7.5 yards could be a lot in a game, I'd also suggest that the difference between average and great would be significantly more.

Our last three games, have been 25.7 yards per game less than our average. That seems to indicate significant improvement, doesn't it? Honestly, I'm not optimistic that we can have many games with 1 or 4 penalties. 5 or 6 seems pretty much league average. I doubt any reasonable human (present company excluded, of course!) would expect much less than 5 or 6 per game. That should be sub 50 yards penalized per game.

Most of Tomlin's playoff success happened with Bill Cowher players.

LOL..didn't Cowher's players go 0-1 in the playoffs in 2007? What did they do in the 2006 playoffs?
