Cam Heyward wants a new deal

Oh I’m sure I’m in the deep minority here, I’m talking more outside of this group.

I realized a long time ago that we have a lot of “get off my lawn and oh by the way, go back to the old days,” people here.

I’ll disappear for my yearly season break from the constant complaining soon enough.
That's what people do when they get mad because people won't bow to their believed overwhelming intellect. I have been here since the beginning on the .biz board, we have seen many others that leave when they don't get treated like the genius they believe themselves to be. You leaving, for a day, month, or year, will not even be noticed.

Bruh I’m just having a conversation. Idk why you are taking this so seriously. I’m not mad at all.
We disagree, not a big deal.

I don’t think I’m a genius or a know it all by any means. We have differing opinions and we’re both voicing it, and that’s alright. Kinda the point.

I wouldn’t expect anyone to notice, but yes I’ll stand behind what I said - there are windows on this site where there seems to be no positive energy or comments anywhere you look.

I do it every year, get tired of constant negativity, take a break, and come back when the cravings of more Steelers conversation come crashing in lol.

Let's get this back to Cam.

Is he worth anything in a trade?
I would not cave. Let him decide if he wants to be a Steeler on his current contract or traded to another team.
One helmet guy indeed.

And if you knew me you'd see that I ain't really like that, But, I find the Heyward thing beyond absurd. Using your fellow team members in your own media platform to criticize your team's front office, when they gave you 3 years of more than decent salary for your age, coming from a serious injury and low production season is beyond ungrateful and actually quite disrespectful and unprofessional from a supposed stand up guy and team leader that a few weeks before was criticizing his current QB and future HoF for a similar contractual issue.

I can't stay on his side, every action gets worse and worse: hold in, his interview speech, now the podcast BS ?

I’m definitely not for the showboating or making a scene of the situation, just don’t really care if a player attempts to maximize their profits in what is typically a small window of a career.

And on the other side of that coin the teams trying to get theirs and squeeze every penny,
I didn’t see any interview speech or podcast stuff

I’m all for players trying to maximize their income and side with players at least 95% of the time.

Cam is just dead dead wrong here.
He’s not a newbie
He knows the Steelers don’t renegotiate until the final year of a deal, much less one year after a deal is signed.

He’s being an asshat here, a greedy hypocrite asshat that chose to play it safe, not bet on himself, but now he wishes he had.

Very un-Captain-like
**** Cam

And as far as the giggle. I would not have giggled. Id have said. Cam this is your final contract with this club. You are going to have to be happy with it or do not sign it and retire.
Cam took the giggle as they doubted he would be all-pro......they hopefully were giggled at the fact he thought he would rework the contract.

Come on man, don’t do that.

I very clearly said it’s not common, not that it can’t happen. Sure, they could’ve, but they didn’t.

I just told you how this contract was a 1 year deal in my eyes, and some others as well. I absolutely get why people are upset about the 1 year later thing, but it was literally not a clear cut new contract extension. We’re dancing around the same response at this point.
How is $29m in new money NOT a new contract? He's already pocketed $14m THIS YEAR from a roster bonus. This nonsense that it was a glorified restructuring is a false narrative.

This is how his contract is broken down.
Cameron Heyward signed a two year, $29 million extension with the Steelers on September 4, 2024. $16 million is guaranteed which is equal to his original salary of his prior contract. $14.7 million of the guarantee was paid as a signing bonus. In 2025, there is a $13.45 million roster bonus that will be earned on the 5th day of the league year. In 2026 there is a $12.95 million roster bonus due on the 5th day of the league year. The extension reduced Heyward's 2024 salary cap number by $9.8 million.

I think fans just care about things that don’t really matter at this point, and it’s fueled by others who don’t really understand the financials behind NFL contracts.

It boils down to one question for me - do you see him as a top 15 DT in the NFL right now?
If you say yes, which most of us will then he’s underpaid.
Given the unique and ongoing contract situation with Cam over the last year, his advanced age, his supposed loyalty to the Steelers, his hypocritical bullshit about other players, etc., etc., boiling it down to that one question is short-sighted and myopic.

Here's another couple of questions for you: Did you see him as a top 15 DE in 2023? You know, when he had 2 sacks and 33 total tackles for the entire season? Cam was the third-highest paid DT in the league that year with a cap hit of $22.26 million -- how much of that did he give back to the Steelers when he was grossly OVER-valued that season?
So in summary, who cares.
You evidently care enough about it to have replied numerous times to various posters. And, yes, many other fans care about it because not one of us expected more nonsense from this "pillar of the community" after his act was more than fairly rewarded by the Steelers with a three-year extension just last September.

Screw trading Cam, I would just suspend him for max allowed time and wait to see if his attitude changes. If not suspend him again after a week or two. Trading him means he gets what he wants.

I hear what you are saying, but I’m not sure the CBA will allow a suspension.

I’m not sure what the criteria is on a “Hold-In” protest, but a hold out is a little bit different.

Hold out can be until week 10 and then show up, that constitutes a full.

A hold in, we have to pay him.

The term Hold in refers to being at camp but refusing to do certain activities. The Hold in will become a holdout week one when he refuses to play. Then he will have to leave and not play till week 10........but then he will almost be out 2/3 of this years contract.

I have this vibe Cam will retire after this season, so he's try to squeeze out some right now money because he won't be around next year.

This could very easily be the case because I think that year 3 of the current contract was extremely compatible to termination.

The money wouldn’t even be a conversation if the media didn’t want it to be. We wouldn’t even know contract numbers and you wouldn’t care.

And there’s no other free agent that giving him a raise would hinder us from signing.

So in summary, who cares.
The Steelers have cap room, so I don't care if they pay him or not. It can set a precedent, but then again, they can tell anyone they want yes or no. Cam is just coming off as real whiney a year after agreeing to a contract he didn't have to.

But to your point about him being a top 15 DT in the NFL right now, is Patrick Mahomes a top 5 QB right now? He's tied for 14th in average pay for year, with Kirk Cousins, a backup QB. He isn't a free agent until 2032. It was a great contract for long-term security, but terrible for overall value. I don't see him complaining about not getting paid enough.

The problem with the NFL right now is the "next guy" is always becoming the highest paid, whether or not they are the best. Factor in that older players will never be paid at the top of their positions, Cam is where he is right now.
