Ben not commiting to 2017

Ben's powerplay. A what if. Take the poll

I think it is a little drama, little frustration, little reflection, perhaps sending a message.
I'm sure Ben remembers well the issues he had with early success in his career. So he can't be too upset about the behaviors.
And now in today's world, prima donna's, divas, whatever you want to call them, are common place.

Suppose Ben does not want to retire, but has a major issue with Haley, Tomlin or Brown and voices it out to Rooney in powerplay fashion asking for a change or I go. Things just got real...


Pick the best course of action:


1 ) Brown and Tomlin can be traded, Haley fired. Have it your way, but give me your word and commitment to the team for X amount of years.


2 ) Stand firm, and wish Ben luck on his life's work.


3 ) Make no decision, it could be a bluff. Wait for more time to pass

It's not that simple...there are way too many variables and options that are not even listed.
 
Wasn't it before this season that he said he felt like he had 5 more years in him?
I think it's frustration. And rightfully so, but I don't think he's going anywhere.
 
Ben may have done some not smart things early in his career with his success, but when it was game time he left it on the field, was pissed when we lost, wasn't bitching about his stats after wins.

That's usually how it works unless you can detect sarcasm from it but if were listening you didn't. Nor did the guys doing the interview think it was anything but what he was saying. Quality of life after football

I believe this demonstrates frustration with the coaching staff. He knows Tomlin isn't going anywhere but may feel like he cannot win another championship with this stiff. So why play?
 
I get the quality of life thing, but I think Ben wants to compete like Farve, Brady, Manning into high 30's-early forties.
He got hit less this year than any other in his career. I think that trend continues.

Communicate with him at his exit interview, find out what his thought process is, lay it all out on the table on both sides and try to come to some sort of compromise. Ben does not seem like the guy that is going to **** over the Steelers and his teammates by up and retiring with no real plan in place, so there has to be more to the story than his health after football. They need to find out what the real thought process is and negotiate accordingly.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said he has not yet committed to playing a 14th NFL season.

“I'm not by any means saying I'm not coming back or anything like that,” Roethlisberger said Tuesday on his weekly 93.7-FM radio segment. “I'm saying at this point of my career that it's prudent … to evaluate, to make sure.

“You want to be able to leave this game walking out of it in a healthy spot. You don't want to be quote unquote carted out. You don't want to leave this game and be worse for the wear.”

Roethlisberger, who turns 35 in March, was sacked the fewest times of his career (17) but missed one game after having surgery on his knee to repair a meniscus tear. He also said he dealt with a shoulder injury since the game against the Dallas Cowboys in November. He said neither will require offseason surgery.

The issue of Roethlisberger possibly retiring came when he was asked how much time he has left in his career.

“I don't know. It's one of those things, I was talking to my wife about it last night and I've been talking to my agent about it and coach about it,” Roethlisberger said. “I'm going to take this offseason to evaluate it, to consider all options, to consider health, family and things like that and just kind of take some time away to evaluate next season –- if there's going to be a next season – all those things.

“At that point and age of my career, I think that's the prudent and smart thing to do every year.

Asked to clarify his stance, Roethlisberger said:

“Like I said, I'm going to take some time and evaluate with my family and do a lot of praying about it and make sure it's the right thing for me and my family.”

Roethlisberger signed a five-year contract worth $99 million, with incentives that could extend it to $108 million, in March 2015. He is scheduled to make $18.2 million next season.

Antonio Brown is a Blue collar hardworking kind of player, always the last to leave, staying practicing with the jug machines, chip on his shoulder,etc.

Did this change? Is he still putting the hardwork but acting like a diva? Or the grinding it out days were over this season and he became a full douche diva?

Not that I know of. During his FB live debacle the players were still saying he one of the hardest workers on the team

I think a lot of it is frustration, but why put your body on the line when a team cant gameplan and at least give some sort of effort. I think Rodgers and James were pretty dependable and Williams even caught a pass, but the play calling in crunch time was horrible. 3rd and 1 chance to get back in the game you throw a low percentage bomb to an unreliable receiver. 4th and goal you throw a low percentage fade to another unreliable receiver. I think that was the one where we could not score from the half yard line originally. The defense does not even try and is totally lost in space. Plus Ben has had many injuries and a few head injuries so I think he is honestly considering leaving the game. He has a wife / kids now football takes a backseat. Ben did say that he and Haley need to call better plays in the redzone so that was kinda a shot at Haley. I am also sure he is not too happy with Brown. NE players said the video game them some extra edge for the game which they did not need. We can say we lost due to Bell, but that is BS. NE was basically one dimensional with way less talent and destroyed us. Ben like a lot of people on this board are probably tired of seeing the same old BS game in and game out. We did have a good run, but the competition was not very good on our winning streak.
 
Is this really a Ben vs Tomlin issue?

Tomlin is in charge of the team, and there have been too many distractions. He also hired Haley. Hmmm....

Tomlin said, " I’m not alarmed by it, that’s football. Obviously, I’m hopeful he returns,” -Mike Tomlin

Not alarmed by it? WOW, something is up. How could he not be alarmed by it?

What is Tomlin's trade value is? You can trade the coach, and some here think Tomlin is decent.

This much is crystal clear. Without Ben, this team is nowhere near a playoff team. Without Tomlin, we are a playoff and might be better off.

So if this is a Ben vs. Tomlin issue, Rooney needs to make the right call.
