A Formal Apology to Mike Tomlin

I just think it’s hard not to correlate Tomlin to Dan Bylsma for the pens, though again I think tomlin is much brighter than bylsma...

Which is why so many wanted a Sullivan-type head coach to take over for the Steelers. That type of coach probably could have harnessed that talented that was underachieving with Tomlin into at least one title.

I wholeheartedly agree, but if the problem was Kieth Butler calling the D, then why was he moved to DC. He was a heck of a LB coach... Arians was a heck of a wr/qb coach... he wasn’t great at OC at any of his stints at it... he is an ok HC, but his best position was always with wr and QBs....

Ill say this once more, the head coach’s biggest responsibility is getting a staff of people in their optimum roles around him.... Tomlin doesn’t really feel like he has that part down yet... look he is OBVIOUSLY a pretty good DC, but thats not his job here...

I can't take articles like this seriously when they say " and a brutal schedule, going 7-1 in the past two months." Seriously? The Steelers have beaten 1 team that is above .500. Of those 7 games they won none of those (probably counting the Rams as well) are going to make the playoffs. Brutal schedule? Yea, right.

Steelers Depot has some good analysis much of the time, but it can be a real pom-pom waving site.

Both were young head, first time head coaches whose stock had climbed quickly.
Both took over championship caliber teams and won early with them...
Both had ridiculous success in the regular season
Both had massive injury laden seasons that they were able to get into playoff contention with.
Both had a long string of playoff failures

Dan Bylsma was fired with one of the greatest win percentages in nhl history
As his defenders pointed out, he was quickly offered other jobs, and took the Sabers job
His flaws that his detractors had pointed out were magnified outside the structure of the Pens organization, had a miserable run, was fired for the shortcomings pointed out here, and has never gotten another chance...

As I point out often, Chuck Noll had his greatest coaching job in 89, and two year later retired rather than risk being forced put or having a short leash

Head coaches with tomlins tenure at one team rarely win big... Im just saying don’t be surprised if, barring a super bowl win, three years from now another head coach is on the sidelines

And Bylsma was promptly fired after compiling a 68-73-23 record in Buffalo after two years.

I'd love to see the Steelers trade Tomlin to Washington after this season, while his stock is ridiculously high, and see how he could do building a struggling team from the ground up. I believe it wouldn't be very pretty.

So if Tomlin is responsible for this glorious turnaround against this "brutal schedule," who's responsible for the ****** start?

You don't understand. Tomlin is a genius DC. When the defense plays well it's because of his play calling... that he does 100% now. Except the first 3 games that is when Butler was calling the defense. Tomlin started calling the defense as soon as Fitz arrived... wait in the other article didn't it say that he free lances to make plays? So is it Tomlin or is it Fitz doing it on his own?

You're right Vader, I actually thought this STEELERS schedule was a pretty easy one, unless you are the near same quality team as the schedule you are playing. The RATS are playing at a very high level and probably would have BLOWN away this schedule.

By Logan Leslie SteelerNation.com I, as many fans have been very critical of Pittsburgh Steelers head coach, Mike Tomlin throughout the last few seasons. This is the work of Colbert mostly not Tomlin. Tomlin should have gone with Duck sooner.

Yeah I don’t get that statement either. It’s a typical Tomlin statement that has you scratching your head saying wtf did this genius just say.
Coach of the year. Win tonight and next week and consideration yes but that’s going to John Harbaugh or Shanahan in SF.

First off, I'm just saying, WHY does Tomlin need an appology???? Isn't he suppose to do his job......... **** the CHEATRIOTS even film documentary on their scout team "doing their job".

I think it's a lot of people who have seen the dumbest of fails under the TOMLIN regime that they think this magical season will collapse and due to a magical dumbass controversial, ameture fail.

I commend him on the season thus far and am enjoying the hell out of it. Injuries forced him to be out of his "BOX". What will happen next year when he has healthy players and the HOF QB ? I'd like to think similar but better results until I look into past performances. I know now that we've got a D things should be better provided they don't change the D game plan due to Roethlisberger being in there.

The "out of the box" Tomlin is better than the "in the box" Tomlin.

I can tell you what's likely to happen.

With the way the defense is playing and with Ben, Conner and Juju back, the Steelers will be expected to win 13+ games and be Superbowl favorites in 2020.

Instead, the defense will probably take a huge step back and they'll win only 8-9 games.

Tomlin's teams have a history of not living up to expectations.

I took that part of the article to mean that the part where they went 1-4 was brutal, not the 7-1 part. Perhaps I am misinterpreting.

Jesus! Are you all insane!!!! 8-5 against loser teams. Hey he can play my son's high school schedule and go 12-0 and you all can induct him in to the HOF!! What a bunch of bone heads. Tomlin has to go. He is the biggest reason for the trouble we'vehad in the passed four years. I'm not even going into it with a bunch of kids. So do you all change tour mind if the Steelers lose today? How about a 9-7 record? Is he still your master? That's the reality of it.

I must be a ******** what ever that is or just a person who can think for myself. 9-7 If they don'twin today and they won't. ********!!! Duck off with stupid posts lime this.
much like a very intelligent poster said in another thread. Tomlin is far from perfect but you would have to be a closed minded ******** not to agree he has done a great job of keeping this team focused and motivated to play. They could have easily folded like the bungles or other teams would being 0-3 without their HOF QB for the season, best RB and WR out with injuries, 2nd string QB **** the bed and they turn to an undrafted free agent to lead the team.

and they are 8-5 and control their playoff destiny.

LMFAO [emoji1787][emoji23] 9-7 And we'llmiss the playoffs yet again. Yeah 2nd best piece of garbage. We do live in a friggin stupid filled world. No wonder we're still stuck with the DNC at all.
Very thankful to have Coach T on board. In my book he's the second best coach in the NFL right now, behind that Darth Vader dude.

IIRC, I predicted 10-6 and a first round playoff loss before the season started and 2/3 of the offense got hurt.
Tomlin does the coaching job of his life to get to 10-6 with a first round playoff loss with a second and third string offense.
Yee-haw!

I took that part of the article to mean that the part where they went 1-4 was brutal, not the 7-1 part. Perhaps I am misinterpreting.

The sentence structure is terrible. If it means what you think it means then why all the praise? So the Steelers can't handle a brutal schedule but Tomlin got them back on track with a ridiculously easy schedule? Then why write the article?

2/3 of the offense got hurt? When?

We play who's on the schedule. Also...

There are a select group of posters who believe that Coach Tomlin usually loses to sub par teams---using this year's stats, I'd say that statement can be put to rest as an 'untruth'...

I wouldn't do that just yet. We lost to the lowly Clowns again!!!!!!!!!!

Not an English major here but why is there a , after I in the opening sentence I’m curious because I’m currently drinking with a English professor (composition) and might place a bet to bad he’s a leftist.

Technically, this IS wrong, but only because they didn't use another comma at the end of the subordinate clause.

The sentence technically is "I have been very critical of Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin..." WITH a subordinate clause modifying 'I', "as many fans" So to make it work properly, you should have...

I, as many fans, have been very critical... There is not a need for the comma before Mike Tomlin, that is superfluous.

Duh, Butlichtner

Comedy Gold!

Duck... Saaaave us! Wait? Uh, are you clear what color jersey the Steelers are wearing Duck?
