A talented young black coach. Instead, they hired a young, black coach who said the right things. Tomlin excels at "saying the right things." What he does not do well is coach professional football.
Unfortunately, the Rooney's were absolutely adamant that they would find and hire a talented young black coach.
I sincerely wish they'd found one.

Someone said in another thread-Tomlin is Mr. Regular Season. If George Steinbrenner owned this team he’d be long gone. There is a difference coaching reg season games vs playoff games. You have to be prepared-your team has to be prepared. This did not happen. There is no question in my mind that Butler has to go. If said it a million times, Tomlin is a smooth talker, he sold ownership. That’s not a bid thing for him. But now it’s getting stale. This is the Pittsburgh Steelers. You’ve got more on field talent than anyone else in the league. (By far on the offensive side of the ball) the expectation is to AT THE VERY LEAST win your home playoff games. Not let a warm weather team with arguable the worst starting qb in the league open up your ******* and slide in a heavy veined dong with zero to little lube. It’s time to make a change at the HC position.

......And they did that twice this year! Tomlin vs Jags = Poor

Aw, baloney Wig. You are smarter than this.

I am not saying Tomlin is the best coach by any means. He pisses me off. But he always has his team in the hunt and never loses them. That is so important, especially with some of the dumb players of today. I would be OK if they fired him, but I would be a little worried losing a guy who is able keep a team. You could end up with a guy like that idiot in NY with the slicked back hair. Can't remember his name. McAdoo.

BTW, Wig, a while ago I asked you about Montana breweries, which one was yours. I was out this summer at Glacier and loved it. Probably gonna go back. Went to one in Kalispell, Tamarak Brewing, one in Columbia Falls, Bonsai in Whitefish, and another in whitefish. Can't remember some of the other names, dammit.

NO, you wouldn't end up with a McAdoo as our ownership evaluation is much better. Even in a fail they ended up with ^Tomlin who is above average at best and managed to get a TALENTED team to boot. They can do better than Tomlin but the Rooney rule will hold them back from anything in the near future. If a strong willed DC (jack DelRio) and a Strong confident OC where brought in, then Tomlin's job would be done for himand he would survive another few years until the OCs got tired of him or moved on.

A good regular season and 1 and done in the playoffs is not good enough. An 8-7 record in the Postseason (5-6 since 2008) is not good enough. This isn't Cincinnati or Cleveland.

Name the other teams that can boast what Tomlin and the Steelers have done in his time here? It will be a very short list. Very short.

This black white **** has to stop. Only reason it's brought up is when one doesn't have any other recourse to the discussion.

Mike Tomlin is 3 and 5 in his last 8 post season appearances, and I think we can all agree that's below the line. For someone that claims to have a defensive pedigree, he can't for the life of him draft an NFL quality player on the defensive side of the ball.

Don't care that he has never had a losing season, because he has with regularity shown up with a team not ready to play when it's perceived that team isn't worth the effort.

The only reason this team was 13-3 in the regular season was Ben, Bell and Brown pulling it out of their *** with last second heroics and Bos coming in for the win.

Game planning and coaching had nothing to do with it.

Should Tomlin be fired? Honestly I'm not sure, but there is no question Haley and Butler should be shown the door. And if they are, and nothing changes with game preparation and attitude, I'm not sure anyone can save the HC, black, white or green.

If you're happy with 5 playoff wins in a decade with the level of talent the team has with a HOF QB, then great. Keep enjoying the early playoff exits.

You didn't answer my question did you? And by the way if you blow up our coaching staff now Ben might as well just retire now. When Ben does finally hang it might be when Tomlin does get canned. If we are lucky that is. I can't see it happening before though.

3-5 in his last 8 playoff games. 2008 was Cowher’s team.

You can't beat the Jags when you lose the turnover battle. Period. We knew it going into the game and it happened. We have to live with it people.

Back in the Hampton, Smith, Kiesel, Farrior, Porter, Clark and Polamula days. Fournette would not have crossed 70 yards rushing in either game. The Steelers get pushed around now and straight up punked on defense.

Damn dude...those years are long gone and the game has changed so much. Why not just go back to the 70's while you're at it?

That's why I used NY, though. They have solid ownership in place up there. They are not Cleveland. But they bowed to the pressure and got rid of Coughlin, and got a shitshow in it's place.

Listen, I am as pissed at Tomlin right now as anyone. He was flat out bad yesterday. But I think we get caught up in the idea that anyone would be better than Tomlin. No, they wouldn't be. I always think of when Lincoln was pressured to get rid of McClellan, he was told anybody would be better. He said, "Anyone will do for you, but I must have somebody." In other words, if you replace, you damn well better get someone better.

Yea, but he is right, though. Big money to Heyward and Tuitt, and they are on ice stakes all game. It has nothing to do with the change in game. Hold the point of attack will always be part of the game. THose guys played big. These guys play small.

Scheme, scheme and scheme. And who cares about the past players here. We need for the layer here to start stepping up. Getting rid of Butler and bringing in a fresh scheme might do the trick. Could we get any worse? Maybe, but we have some talent on our defense. Guys just seem out of position alot of the time. And the 2 DL and 2 LBers defense sucks.

Win regular season games with one of the most talented rosters in the NFL, lose to almost every sub 500 team we play, get humiliated in the playoffs with a 3-5 (2-6 if not for the Bungles self imploding) record in his last 8 playoff games?

Who are the other teams that have been as successful under one coach as long as Tomlin has been here? Here I will get you started:
