It is apparent in most mock drafts, experts have the Steelers filling the void that Ryan Shazier left behind. It only seems right that Pittsburgh uses their first round pick on an inside linebacker, seeing as the defense never looked the same with Shazier off the field. The debate seems to have narrowed down to […]

I would be happy getting either of them in the 1st round.

The combine is going to move some players around after the workout warriors jump up or fall off in the draft.

I prefer Evans for now as he's an all-around talent vs. the run or pass, with blitzing options and was battle tested in the SEC, but let's see how they work out first. I have seen Evans on film, and he's impressive, perhaps too impressive and won't be there for us to draft.

Vander Esch could be one of those players that can neutralize and cover Tight Ends as he's tall, with what looks like long arms, and fluid movement ( fluid movements according to reports ). Coving the TE has been Steeler weakness for years, and the way the NFL is trending a nickel linebacker who can cover is a need. I want to see Vander Esch on the bench at the combine, as he's built a bit like a basketball player might lack functional playing strength vs. NFL competition.

I'll start looking more the need positions at the draft after the combine a pro days.

I'm on the Evans bandwagon (I loved Timmons) or trading up to land Roquan Smith.

The best available middle linebacker, based on his actual playing. I hope some player with a mediocre college career, who wows everyone at the combine, will not be chosen. I never liked that - I never liked that when they drafted Dupree. Production means more than a staged workout IMHO.

LVE's level of competition is worrisome. And it really isn't the Steelers round 1 type of approach in making their normal round 1 selection. Not who I want in 1 or do I think he will be their BPA. I could see Evans or Edwards or a QB or a Harrison as the more appealing option if available.

If my choice was one or the other, Evans is the one. I hope BPA and we will see if someone falls to us.

Salute the nation

I'm hoping Roquan Smith fails a drug test and tells everyone prior to the combine that the only team he'll play for is located in Pittsburgh, and he'll absolutely not sign any contract with any other team.

I think Evans would be a solid candidate, Shazier is a golden player tough to replace , if anyone can measure up to his standards Evans would probably pull through

4 players of need i wouldnt care if they traded up for Tremain Edmunds Roquan Smith Derwin James and Micah Fitzpatrick. If any of those players make it past 15 im on the phone

Unexpected situation with Shazier calls for an unexpected move in the draft.
Hope they trade up to grab the game-changing hi-impact player they really want.
We've done it before, now seems like the time to do it again.
As to who that will be... ILB seems to be the logical choice

Also let me add i would take Quenton Nelson in a heart beat also.

A couple recent mock drafts on NFL.com have us taking Guice with our No. 1 pick. If we can't work something reasonable (anything above what they offered him last year is bad business based on our current situation) out with Bell, that would be a good move. We could address ILB and S in FA with Bell's savings and in the rest of the draft. That would instantly make us a better team.

i'm not convinced that guice is all that he's being cracked up to be. he looks to be more of a 2nd-3rd rd back. to me, in today's NFL, if you're spending your 1st rd pick on a RB, he better be DAMNED good, a shoo-in for all-pro level of performance. i just don't see guice as being that "shoo-in"

The best available inside linebacker. That is the current need or at least the most critical one.

I agree. Tomlin always dismisses guys performances in shorts at their different camps getting ready for the season. Then they go out and draft a guy off of what he did in shorts at the combine. Just plain dumb. No other word fits..
