Who Should Pittsburgh Take in the 1st Round?

I agree. Tomlin always dismisses guys performances in shorts at their different camps getting ready for the season. Then they go out and draft a guy off of what he did in shorts at the combine. Just plain dumb. No other word fits..

ummmmm Steelers draft based on game tape primarily.

Colbert has commented that most, if not all, of their evaluations are pretty much complete by the time the combine arrives. Players work at the combine, pro-days and interviews are just add’l information about the player to finalize their draft board status.

In a shocker, the Steelers pick Lamar Jackson. Boy some heads would explode on here.

As long as he's the BPA when we pick - I'd be fine w/ it. BUT...you know I'm pimpin' my dude from Bama - Evans at ILB...

yinz a big bama fan?

people I'm predicting a move, up if the chance is there of course but down if it isn't. I don't see as much talent late in the 1st as there was last draft and I do hope to trade the pick if whatever is left is 2nd round talent

Been thinking about if they would go against the norm this year based on an injury that surprised everyone and left a hole in the middle of the D. I would think Harrison,Evans, and Payne would have to be off the board. Purely speculation of course. But with a need so big..... you have to think outside of the box. Now if they bring in a ILBer in free agency, I think the odds decrease significantly about moving up IMO.....

What if the BPA is a RG???

Yeah naw BPA at the most critical positon of need if said player grades out with first round talent.

Foster is a free agent next year. A case is made. If they don't think value is sitting there, they can move up or down. This is a abnormal situation just maybe they match it with a new abnormal approach with moving in round 1.

the only reason I would like that is to read the ******* thread when if that happened.

If we don't sign bell and fill a few voids with upper end FAs and we pick jackson i won't like it but i could deal with it. If we sign bell and waste a first round pick on jackson i will be pissed.
First QB is not an immediate need and won't help the team while Ben is here. Second i just don't think jackson is an nfl QB. He is athletic, but not very accurate and doesn't seem too adept at reading defenses. We have enough needs on D we can pick a good player there that won't be a reach.

if MIkah gets by 10 trade up mortgage this draft, as he himself will be a stud and a starter for a decade, could be as good as Woodson, has the speed and fluidity to play high or under and easily can play slot CB and could match up vs vertical threats guys like Wallace, Jackson, who are pure speed demons.
if Evans lands to 28 its a no brainer, Edwards would give us great versatility and be able to ply multiple spots

BPA that will help this season, so ******* hell no on Jackson, getting sick of hearing that.

I want no parts of LJ. Let somebody else try that experiment. If they're successful, fine, more power to them. I just want great players at 1 and 2...a great LB, S, G or WR.

Not disputing that he needs work on the accuracy. However, you are aware that he ran a Pro Style offense at Louisville, right? This means that he was reading defenses at the QB position while in college; and won a Heisman while doing so. Now, reading the defense and being able to accurately get the ball where it's supposed to be? Could be an issue. But reading defenses? I figure he's ahead of a whole lot of the spread offense QBs.

Not that I want it, but there's a good chance Mason Rudolph is there at 28; and possibly the BPA at that time. So, if that's the case, do you pick a S/ILB that you had rated lower or go BPA? Tough call. One I'm happy to let someone else make and complain about later. lol

They are not taking a qb in the first round. Maybe next year. Ben committed for more than this season. They have a backup and a young guy. They will take defense.

Not saying they are. But, it's the off season, the draft is still almost two months away and we will discuss EVERY possible scenario prior to. With that as a caveat, I think they don't go BPA if Rudolph/Jackson are the BPA at the time they pick. But, I sure as hell hope they don't reach for a way lesser talent at a position of need. That kind of drafting gets you Jarvis Jones.

I agree that would be a tough decide I think for the Steelers. If he is the BPA you pick him or trade down. I keep thinking someone will pick him prior to 28. Like the Saints or the Bills.

But if the Steelers were stubborn and didn't see the value trading down, I wouldn't lose my lunch over the pick.

Like a few around here might.

He is one of my favorite QBs from this class.
