Vick meeting with Steelers

Tombert ****** up again. Rex Grossman was available and the Falcons signed him. Uncle Rico too. He would have made state if coach had put him in 4th quarter.

I am still available...even after that Sugar Bowl in 96

Absolutely, but there are cultures where what we find appalling is commonplace and they simply don't grasp how wrong it was because it was something they grew up with. Maybe Vick is a sociopath, but then again maybe he is just an entitled fool who followed the wrong crowd and really is trying to make amends... I aint judging....

Not casting aspersions, just an observation, but 100% of my black friends on Facebook are in favor of signing Vick while it is about 50/50 with my white friends.
Noted sports analyst Snoop Dogg is okay with it too.

Well Andrew McCutchen had a great night last night, so hopefully the 50% anti-Vick crowd had something positive to hold too from a black athlete

Apparently you missed the earlier southern culture discussion.

The Steelers signed Vick just before " national dog day ". Bad karma or just odd timing?

Very repentant man.

Things have really quieted down for Big Ben. And I'm more than quite sure that he likes it that way. So all of you planning protests and the like either in person or via the social media better be ready for the way this gets framed if it actually becomes a regular media thing. What about Ben Roethlisberger and the "Alleged" sexual assualts. Pittsburgh and its fans seem to have a double standard based upon race. You can bank on that.

so allegations of a crime (that they could not dig up enough evidence of to ever charge a player) are the same as a player who was convicted of a crime and served time in prison?

all this bullshit over a qb who is just not very good is getting idiotic

That would be the logical reaction, but we know how the masses react to things these days. You KNOW at some point, differences of race will be brought up by some dipshit out there

I'm not saying they are the same or that he was guilty. I'm saying if people want to put up a big **** storm about this thing, what happened in Georgia will be dragged up. Not on an obscure message board, but in the national media. And it will be along the lines of race. I'm not saying it is right. I'm saying it will happen. I am asking a question that I don't know the answer too it isn't a rhetorical question. Was this much **** stirred up when he went to Philly, New York? Did it die down quickly or never?

This is an insightful post. He's not stating the truth or this perceived issue, Sask is merely suggesting a media perspective that can be taken on this issue.

I could easily see it degrade to a race issue since that is the current hot button in this country and gets the best ratings nationally. It isn't right or accurate, but when does the truth sell on news feeds?

Oh that is absolutely going to become a national news theme... I cant believe I missed that angle up till now... that is such a juicy spin for the media... they almost have to do it....

Who cares? Anytime someone doesn't approve of a black guy for any reason, some people will claim it's racially motivated. Can't go through life worrying about that. Intelligent people recognize there's a huge difference between being accused of something with no supporting evidence, and being convicted of something.

You cannot change the perception of Ben outside the fan base anymore than I could come on here and say that Ray Lewis isn't a murderer and Tom Brady isn't a cheat. Which I wouldn't cause he is a murderer and he is a cheat. Everyone who knows me, knows I'm a Steelers fan. "What do you think of the big signing". My response: Well it isn't a big signing. If he had to play more than three games the Steelers are probably sunk, but I do think he is better than what they have on the roster behind Ben. It seems to have really stirred up the fanbase. Their response to a person:
What about Big Ben?

15,516 now. That's a good number of people to piss off for a scrub.

How many of them actually consider themselves Steelers fans? Of those, how many are season ticket holders? What percentage actually watch or go to the games? Buy Steelers gear? I only ask because if they are not 15,516 people who are contributing to the bottom line ($$$), it really doesn't matter if they sign an online petition or not.

Heck, even if all of them were season ticket holders and they decided that they are now going to divest themselves of their season tickets/psl forever because they are so outraged, there would be $15,516 people immediately willing to take their places.

Ask and you shall receive. The author of this particular piece either hasn't read up on the Roethlisberger cases, has ignored what she read or decided to just present the facts that make her points seem salient. However, I believe that this is the type of article that you were referencing.

How can this front office reconcile signing Michael Vick but avoiding Randy Gregory in the draft?

Every evaluation is different. I don't understand why people insist on painting with broad strokes, comparing Vick and Gregory and Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson etc. Each one is its own business decision where many variables are considered. We signed Vick because our veteran #2 backup QB got injured, because Landry Jones is light years away from being a viable option, because there is an incredible scarcity of guys that can even impersonate a legitimate NFL QB and because Vick has done all the right things for the past 6 NFL seasons. There is no reason to think Vick will be a bad influence on our locker room.

With Gregory there are a thousand different elements to consider...do we really need another OLB after drafting Dupree? What did the team's investigation of Gregory's character turn up? Is he way too skinny to play in our system (on draft day he weighed less than Martavis Bryant)? Is he addicted to pot? What did he college coaches say about him? Does he really like football? Any a million more...

NFL teams look at each player on a case-by-case basis. And they make mistakes. Last year we made a pretty big one in signing Legarette Blount - a move I was pretty excited about at the time...

50% of your white friends are racist...

What a stupid comment, I'm not in favor of the signing because I think it brings baggage to the team and bad publicity, also cause I think he's washed out.
That doesnt make me a racist, hell I'm not even white, I'm Hispanic. It doesn't either make me hate the guy or the Steelers. Just didn't like the signing.

If gradkowski was coming of a shoulder injury they should've brought another vet to training camp, trusting Landry was the big mistake.

Edit: (if it was sarcasm please forget what I wrote, totally missed it)

Well that took less time than even I expected.

Maybe so, but you knew it would happen. People are opening that door with the **** storm about Vick. And like I said, pretty sure Ben would just like to close that chapter.

Well of course. It was something one of my female relatives posted on fb. Got a lot of "likes" from the the ladies.

Edit: Let me also say, it's a can of worms the league would probably not like to have opened either since they are continuously courting this particular demographic.
