Vick meeting with Steelers

****, **** ****.

I will watch zero games if they sign him.

Obviously a few of you would sell your soul.

It's a business and NFL teams are in the business of winning games. I'd be much happier if Bruce Gradkowski's finger wasn't busted, but that's not an option and neither is going into a season with Landry Jones as Ben's backup. I'd prefer to have options other than Vick, but it's amazing how scarce guys that can impersonate an NFL QB have become. And I feel differently about Vick now than I did in 2009, given that he seems to have been a good teammate and hasn't had any legal issues over the past 6 seasons.

Don't forget he had the other QB from Hampton Va (Boyd) in here competing during camp. Now he's ready to endorse Vick, a NNews guy. Hampton Roads pipeline for Tomlin!!!!

I just don't get this line of complaining at all. Who the **** would be better? Is there someone available that you would trust? No one is saying Vick is that ******* good, just the best available.

Let's say Ben is going to miss one week against an average team at Heinz Field. What's our chance of winning if Landry Jones is our starting QB, 10%? What is it with a healthy Gradkowski? I'd say 35-40% What is it with Vick? I'd say a bit less than Gradkowski but a lot closer to Bruce than Landry. At least Vick can still throw the ball 65 yards in the air to Martavis Bryant.

and I don't understand bringing in someone you know is not all that good anymore....would rather ride it out and see if anyone even slightly better is cut or could be acquired on the cheap....

I'm betting they sign him by the end of the day. I'm seeing a lot of those types of comments today, like "I'm mailing all my Steelers merchandise back to the Steelers if they sign Vick". Does anyone think the Eagles or Jets really "lost" fans because they signed Vick?

Uh huh. So bring someone in to start learning the playbook later rather than sooner? That's smart. And if no one better becomes available?

A lot of you guys who claim you never, ever want to see Landry Jones throw a pass in a Steelers uniform sure seem to want him to take some snaps for us in a game that actually counts.

how is Freeman doing in preseason? Really, there has to be anyoene else than Vick

Have you looked at NFL rosters lately?

Most backup QBs are mediocre, and the third-stringers are worse than that.

Note: I believe Freeman - if you mean Josh - is out of the league...OK, he's with the Dolphins. Same thing.

You guys really think we can do better than Vick with a guy who is going to get cut by another team and then sign with us 4 days before we play the Patriots? Show me one team that has too many QBs...

I've never made that statement about Landry.....

The Dog Fighting deal is done and gone we need a backup and Landry Jones ain't cutting it for us.

Didn't mean to imply that you did, but it could be the result of your "let's just see how things play out, maybe a better option than Vick will get cut" stance. Because 1) maybe someone better than Vick doesn't get cut and 2) if a better guy gets cut, how can he learn the playbook in a handful of days (since we play the first game on Sep 10)?

Sheesh some folks need to really get off their high horse... I'm not saying you have to love the man or even have to agree with the possible/eventual signing of Vick... But, the "hate attacks" are so ignorant for somebody who not only has paid their debt for their crimes and continues to walk a path of the opposite mindset. Just because Big Ben was able to settle his issues doesn't erase his record. Rooney's were a pen stroke away from releasing him. But, they gave him an opportunity for redemption. Plus Vick been out of jail for like 6 or 7 years during things the right way. Again, I'm not saying you can't disagree, but people going off the deep-end.

"Do you think Michael Vick got a slap on the wrist for his crimes?

If someone commits a crime against animals, here's how events usually unfold:

The person committing the animal crime is caught and successfully prosecuted and pleads guilty to a federal felony.
As the case plays out in the public domain, there is a wave of social disapproval and a new awareness of the gravity of the problem.
There is a new attitude and resolve in dealing with this crime across the nation. For its part, The HSUS seeks to drive reforms in law enforcement, public policy, social work, and other relevant sectors.
Finally, after the perpetrator is released from prison, he is typically assigned to the equivalent of community service helping to address the problem.

And that's how the Vick story progressed. He served his time in prison, he admitted his wrongdoing, and his regret, and he determined to make amends. His work in reaching out to important audiences now buttresses that of the leading anti-dogfighting group in the nation in its broad efforts to attack the problem.
Is any money changing hands?

No. The HSUS has not received any contributions from Vick, the NFL, the Philadelphia Eagles, or anyone else in exchange for appearances and his participation in our community-based anti-dogfighting program. Nor is The HSUS paying Vick or anyone else for his participation. Vick pays his own expenses when he speaks at anti-dogfighting forums."

Of course not. People will huff and puff....annnnnd then be in front of that TV come 1:00pm Sunday afternoon

One could do a lot worse than Vick as a backup QB. It's not like they're going anywhere with Gradkowski or Jones, if Roethlisberger misses more than a few games.

I actually like Vick more as a #2 than Gradkowski, to be honest.

This x10.

If any one can tell me a better option than Vick (as a backup) at the moment, I am all ears. He actually may be marginally better at Bruce.

Looks like we will sign him. I wonder if Bruce goes on IR?

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger supports the potential addition of Vick if the move helps the team. When asked about the QB's past, which includes serving nearly two years in prison for federal dogfighting conspiracy charges, Roethlisberger said, "This is a locker room. It's about football. That's what matters to me most."

"THE FRANCHISE" has spoken ... And that should be the last word.

if we do sign him, I hope he comes in during garbage time and scores a few TDs against the Browns. in Cleveland.

I heard he'll go on the PUP list. Managed by Vick, of course.

Couldn't resist.

Although I believe Vick has done his time.
