Tomlin and Haley's contract are up in 2016

I've been over this **** 100X before. You say you've been reading the board right? You can't defend your argument so you jump now to bad losses under Cowher. Typical move by someone that got his point destroyed.

Actually I think it's Tibs or somebody who just likes to argue using a new screen name.

This has been brought up before around here in many threads, but for those of us that have concerns with the way Colbert and Tomlin are leading this team and think change would possibly help, watching whether or not Tomlin gets a contract extension could be the #1 most important thing to happen this off-season.

Tomlin will get extended, bank on it. Two years of 8-8 sure, but this year was 11-5 and won the division so the arrow is pointing up, obviously, if you will. Everything else is popcorn and elevator music.

Tomlin was 2-0 in AFCC games with Cowher's players.

Cowher was 2-6 in AFCC games with Cowher's players.

Tomlin can't draft D
Cowher can't draft O

wash...rinse...repeat...

Haley is as "SAFE" as an OC can be. Right now, I'm thinking they have bigger fish, so to speak. Tomlin's arrow, in the eyes of many, is definately pointing up. We'll have to wait and see if the front office makes any splash plays, in his contract offer.

I say get some players as tomlin isn't going anywhere this year, extention or not.

In 2011 Coach Cool Shades let Bruce Arians call pass plays all day in below zero wind chill against the Browns who had the 31st ranked run defense at the time. That division loss kept them out of the playoffs. Arians said "We don't let the weather affect our game plan." Shades and Arians should have both been fired first thing Monday morning.

In 2003 (December 14) Coach Chin allowed Mike Mularkey to call 38 pass plays in a blizzard even though Hall of Fame RB Jerome Bettis averaged over 4 yards per carry (on 16 carries). Tommy Maddox completed only 16 of 38. Steelers lost 6-0. The Jets gave the ball to Curtis Martin 30 times. Coach Chin and Mularkey should both have been fired first thing Monday morning.

See how stupid this **** can get when you talk out of your ***?

True, I had forgotten about that game. I'd have been okay with firing both of them on Monday as well. Somehow Belicheat almost never has brain farts like that.

True, but I don't count the '01 and '04 losses to the Pats** because they were cheating. Besides, Shades would either have to be here for about 30 years before he'd get to 8 AFCCG's or the team would have to hire a GM who would tell him to STFU when it comes to draft day.

Who thinks Cowher made it to 8 AFC Championship Games? He won 2 and lost 4 (Chargers, Broncos, Pats x 2)

I was just going with the 2-6 record that Cope posted.
FWIW I still think the loss to the Chargers was the worst and most heartbreaking loss in Steelers history. Getting beat by Tebow the last time he set foot on a NFL field is only #2 in my book.

I don't understand all of the hate for Tomlin. In order to fire someone you should have in mind a replacement option, so who would you replace him with?
Gonna stop you right there

I don't agree with this premise. If your goal is to win Super Bowls and you think you have reached a place where you can't get it done with your current guy, you get rid of him regardless of who is on your wish list. Nothing is guaranteed anyway, so you might have options "in mind" but you don't make decisions based on "options" you have "in mind".

Then what does Cowher have to do with anything? He hasn't been our coach for 8 years, so as far as I'm concerned, what he did or didn't accomplish has nothing to do with what Tomlin can accomplish moving forward. Is a company's stock price based on how the CEO does compared to the last guy? Not at all.

People who don't like it when someone is critical of MT usually have to bring up something about Cowher too as a matter of defense. It's the same principle as pointing out something about Bush when someone is critical of Bomma or bringing up The Crusades when someone is critical of Islam. It doesn't bother me but I do get tired of repeating myself.

Recap:
1. Tomlin is at best an average coach. 8-8 to 10-6 with the annual playoff loss (when he gets into the playoffs) is sort of his natural state. I don't necessarily mean that as a slam, it's just who he is and what you get. We've been conditioned to expect better but I'd still take him over anyone that Cleveland would hire.
2. Other than WR's and RB's, he can't draft for ****. If ownership is going to keep Colbert then they need to send MT on a long vacation to the Himalayas searching for the Yeti at draft time with no computer and no cell phone.

Nice to see I haven't missed anything lol.

You nailed it. Tomlin is average, at best. We won't win a super bowl with him. We won't even get to the super bowl.

If they were cheating in 01, we were still good enough to beat them. It came down to being out coached on special teams. Bellicheck noticed our punt team gunner out of bounds, notified the refs, and we were called for it. Rekick = Punt return TD. We were good enough to win that game with or without cheating, and we should have won it.

Good catch it's 2/6 vs 2/2. So Tomlin has to win his next AFCC game to get above Cowher.

This team has greatly underachieved under Tomlin and anyone that doesn't see that owns some good glasses. It's going to get worse before better. This team is still far away from competing for a sb

i agree .. the offense is good but we have no defense , we have 2 good players (heiward timmons ) tuitt that could be good and a bunch of soft guys with belowe average talent

He must be the first "average" coach I've ever witnessed making it to 2 super bowls...

Barry Switzer won a super bowl with Jimmy's players, just like Tomlin won a super bowl with Bill's players.

Cowher was 5-1 with Ben in the playoffs in only 3 years. Tomlin is 5-4 in the playoffs with Ben in 8 years, huge advantage Cowher.

In addition, Tomlin record vs sub .500 teams is much worse. Bill was stuck with Tomzack, Stewart and Graham at QB for years and still had good records. If Tomlin had to play these guys at QB, he would have losing seasons.

Tomlin benefited from an easy schedule ( Still lost to the Jets and Bucs ), and no major injuries to key players. 2015's schedileis much harder. We still have a draft, free agency and camp, but if I had to make a call on the prediction right now I would say 7-9 or 8-8. No playoff wins again = Time for a change.

Where was the 2nd superbowl for Switzer? I must have missed it. Also he had a great 4 year career.

Also who here has ever made the argument that Jon Gruden could only win a superbowl with Tony Dungy's players? No one. Why? Because they are poor arguments.

they haven' t resigned him so the F.O. is being cautious and sending a clear message: get results or you are gone.
I like that

There wasn't. By that time Jimmy's players aged. My point is you can have a monkey on a race horse, and he can win a super bowl IF he has great players with veteran leadership. Switzer was dumb as rocks.

Another example is Seifert who won with Bill Walsh players.

Five years with no playoff wins? un-acceptable. Out of curiosity, if the Steelers can't win a playoff game this year and finish 7-9 to 8-8, are you for a head coaching change?

Cowher took over a team that had not won a playoff game in years and made then winners. Tomlin inherited a great team and once they aged, we saw what type of coach he is.
