Booming economy has Trump taking a well-deserved victory lap
Yes, Virginia, the economy can grow at 4 percent. It just did, much to the annoyance of Trump critics.
Let’s face facts: Accelerating GDP growth is exactly what the Trump White House hoped to achieve through cutting taxes and rolling back over-reaching regulations.
The “X” factor, unimaginable given the sustained assault on everything Trump and endless #Resistance from Democrats, is how those policies and a change in tone from the White House have lifted the country’s animal spirits.
There is simply no denying that the public’s mood brightened almost immediately after the election of Donald Trump — notwithstanding the hordes that took to the streets — and the optimism remains at extremely high levels.
That optimism, revealed in surveys of consumers and business managers, has jacked up consumer spending, led to increased hiring and, perhaps most significantly, raised capital investment. That could be the key to several more quarters of expansion.
The president took a well-deserved victory lap soon after the numbers were released, crowing about several features of the robust second quarter. He touted the shrinking trade deficit and the job gains recorded in the past 18 months.
He also spoke of record-low unemployment for African-Americans, Hispanics, Asian-Americans, women and the disabled. He spoke of large numbers of people falling off the food-stamp rolls and the influx of people coming back to the workforce.

President Trump blasted the cost of medication in the US as part of his ongoing trade war, promoting German drug firms to make concessions and abandon price increases across America.
A spokesman for Darmstadt-based pharmaceutical and chemical group Merck said: “We are currently planning no price increases in the US for the rest of the year 2018.
They insisted their choice to cap medication prices in the US was one made “independently”.
Pharmaceutical giant Bayer has followed Merek’s lead by signing an agreement to not increase prices for any prescription drugs till the end of 2018.

Russia To Boost Oil Output In Win For Trump
During the Helsinki summit, as well as during negotiations with the European Union on trade, Donald Trump has placed American energy dominance, and low gas prices to keep the U.S. economy booming, at the top of his agenda. It looks like he just got some results as Russia will be pumping more oil, most likely ending a production deal with OPEC to keep crude prices high on international markets.
The Russian announcement may be an attempt to lessen U.S. opposition to the Nord Stream II project, which will bring much more Russian gas to Western Europe, threatening Ukraine and the Baltics. Trump made a point at the recent NATO summit to call out Germany in particular for pushing the project, worsening its dependence on Russian gas, while spending little on its own defense.
Oil revenue is critical to the Russian federal budget but with prices in the $60-70 handle trading range, Moscow can afford to boost production to help improve relations with the United States. This announcement is a big boost to Trump’s efforts to engage Russia

TAMPA — It had the feel of a college-football tailgate.
But this wasn't a fall Saturday in a college town. This was a gloomy summer morning in Tampa, and kickoff isn't until 7 p.m., when President Trump is scheduled to host a rally inside the Fairgrounds' Expo Hall. Trump isn't scheduled to land in Tampa until 5 p.m., but his most ardent supporters have no problem waiting.
Some got in line more than 24 hours before the president was scheduled to speak.
The Trump magnet is so strong it pulled supporters from all over the state to Tampa for a Tuesday rally, with some staking out spots in line more than 24 hours before the president was set to speak.
Bob Kunst drove from Miami for the event. He brought along half a dozen signs that he displayed at rallies during the 2016 campaign, and at both party’s conventions.
One sign said “Trump vs Tramp.” Another said “Gays for Trump.” Kunst also had a plastic Hillary Clinton mask and a “Hillary for Prison” sign.
Kunst said he is a gay Jewish Democrat who fervently supports the president.
“The Democrats want our money, want our votes and then stab us in the back,” he said, before praising Trump for moving the American embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and going after the Islamic State.
