House Files Articles of Impeachment against Rosenstein

A group of conservative House lawmakers on Wednesday introduced articles of impeachment against Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the top Department of Justice (DOJ) official overseeing special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.

"For 9 months we’ve warned them consequences were coming, and for 9 months we’ve heard the same excuses backed up by the same unacceptable conduct. Time is up and the consequences are here. It’s time to find a new Deputy Attorney General who is serious about accountability and transparency,” Meadows, the head of the House Freedom Caucus and ally of President Trump, said in a statement.

“The DOJ is keeping information from Congress. Enough is enough. It’s time to hold Mr. Rosenstein accountable for blocking Congress’s constitutional oversight role,” said Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) in a statement.

White House: Trump Has Started ‘Mechanism’ for Pulling Security Clearances from ‘Certain Individuals

President Donald Trump has started “the mechanism” for pulling security clearances from “certain individuals,” a White House aide revealed Tuesday. White House Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley told reporters aboard Air Force One traveling to Joint Base Andrews in Camp Springs, Maryland, that the administration has begun taking the necessary steps to revoke access to classified information from former top intelligence officials but declined to get into specifics.

“What I can say is that the president finds it extremely inappropriate for somebody to go on television under the perception of legitimacy, integrity and level false and baseless claims against another person without any evidence whatsoever,” Gidley told the press gaggle. “He finds that to be somewhat troublesome and concerning, and so he has begun the mechanism to remove security clearances from certain individuals. The names were listed yesterday. And when we have a further announcement on that, we’ll give it to you.”

“The president contends to the fact that people with security clearances are making these baseless charges provides inappropriate legitimacy to accusations with zero evidence,” Sanders told White House press reporters.

White House bans CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins from Rose Garden event

A White House reporter for CNN was disinvited from a Rose Garden photo opportunity Wednesday after having called out questions to President Trump in an earlier Oval Office meeting about former personal attorney Michael Cohen tape-recording him.

According toCNN, when the Rose Garden photo-op was announced, Kaitlan Collins was told by Bill Shine, the White House deputy chief of staff for communications, and chief spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders that she could not come.

“They said ‘You are disinvited from the press availability in the Rose Garden today,’” Ms. Collins said.

GOP bill bans US embassies from raising gay pride flags

House Republicans led by Rep. Jeff Duncan of South Carolina have put forward a new bill that would prevent U.S. embassies around the world from flying flags other than the American flag.

The bill was introduced after a few recent incidents in which a rainbow flag symbolizing gay pride and LGBT rights was flown above some embassies.

"The United States flag is the single greatest symbol of freedom the world has ever known, and there’s no reason for anything but Old Glory to be flying over our embassies and posts around the globe," Duncan said in a statement to the Washington Examiner.

Here at the UN, thousands of miles away from Palestinians who do have real needs, there is no end to the speeches on their behalf. Country after country claims solidarity with the Palestinian people. If those words were useful in the schools, the hospitals, and the streets of their communities, the Palestinian people would not be facing the desperate conditions we are discussing here today. Talk is cheap.

Last year, Iran’s contribution to UNRWA was zero. Algeria’s contribution to UNRWA was zero. Tunisia’s contribution to UNRWA was zero.

Other countries talk a big game about the Palestinian cause. In 2017, China provided 350,000 to UNRWA. Russia provided two million dollars to UNWRA.

Last year … the United States gave 364 million dollars… And that’s on top of what the American people give annually to the Palestinians in bilateral assistance. That is another 300 million dollars just last year, and it averages to more than a quarter of a billion dollars every year since 1993.

Too often, the Arab countries give just enough money and mouth just enough uncompromising words to stay out of the crosshairs of Palestinian representatives. But if they really cared about the Palestinian people, they would not do that. Instead, they would condemn extremism and they would put forth serious ideas for compromises that could end this struggle and lead to a better life for the Palestinian people.

The Palestinian leadership has been allowed to live a false reality for too long because Arab leaders are afraid to tell them the truth… It is time for the regional states in particular to step up and really help the Palestinian people, instead of just making speeches thousands of miles away.

FEC Complaint Filed Against Rep. Maxine Waters Alleging Election Law Violations

NLPC filed a Complaint with the Federal Election Commission alleging that Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) violated federal election law in a transaction related to her so-called slate mailer during her last re-election campaign.

The transaction was a payment to Waters’ campaign fund from the Democratic State Central Committee of California (DSCCC) in the amount of $35,000 for the inclusion of then-Senate candidate, and now Senator Kamala Harris, on Waters’ slate mailer

Whereas candidates like Harris may legally pay Waters’ campaign for the proportional costs of their inclusion on her slate mailer, it is not legal for such payment to be made by a third party like the DSCCC.

Waters’ slate mailers have been a matter of controversy for years. They resemble a sample ballot distributed by political parties before and during elections, but contain Waters’ personal endorsements. She pioneered a new way to use slate mailers by seeking an Advisory Opinion from the Federal Election Commission in 2004 that allows her to use her federal campaign to also function as a State of California slate mailer committee while still maintaining eligibility as a principal federal campaign committee.

The main beneficiary of the slate mailers appears to be companies controlled by Waters’ daughter Karen Waters, which have received hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce the mailers.

House OKs defense bill authorizing a pay raise for troops

The Men and Women Serving in Our Military Are About to Get Their Biggest Pay Raise in Nine Years

The members of the United States military will receive their largest pay raise in nine years. Congress passed the National Defense Authorization Act, granting the military a budget of more than $700 billion.

Members of the armed forces will each receive a 2.6 percent raise in their annual pay. Those with high levels of experience or in-demand skills will be receiving bonuses on top of that.

This new package also adds 15,600 active troops to the four major branches of the military, as well as the Air Guard and the Naval and Air Reserves.

In addition to increasing the number of military members and their pay, the package will provide our armed forces with new tools and weapons.

US military plane leaves North Korea with remains of soldiers from Korean War

A U.S. military plane left North Korea on Thursday carrying the remains of U.S. troops killed decades ago in the Korean War, the White House said.

The Air Force C-17 aircraft left the coast city of Wonsan and is en route to Osan Air Base in South Korea, roughy 43 miles south of Seoul, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement.

Once the remains arrive in South Korea, a formal repatriation ceremony will be held on Aug. 1.

It was not immediately clear how many remains had been handed over to the U.S., though South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported Thursday that it was about 50.

California Rep. Maxine Waters said that Americans should be “out in the streets screaming” about President Trump in a Wednesday interview.

Waters told CNBC’s John Harwood, “I think [Trump’s] dangerous.”

“I don’t know why people take it. I think Americans should be out in the streets screaming to the top of their voice. Do something. Make something happen,” she continued.

During the interview, she also said, “[Trump is] one of the most deplorable people I’ve ever encountered in my life.”

The U.S. economy grew by 4.1 percent in the second quarter of 2018, marking the fastest economic expansion in nearly four years, according to a highly anticipated estimate released Friday by the Commerce Department.

The gross domestic product (GDP) numbers, considered an official economic scorecard for the country, will be touted by the Trump administration as a strong indication that its tax cuts, commitment to deregulation and tough trade policies have paid off. The GDP broadly reflects the goods and services produced in the country.

The figures may reflect a temporary boost due to short-term factors, but lend a powerful midterm-season talking point to congressional Republicans hitting the campaign trail during the summer recess. Democrats for months have downplayed and criticized the GOP-authored tax cuts as favoring the wealthy, but Republicans maintain that Americans have broadly benefited.

And fyi the 4.1% would tie for 5th strongest Q under George W Bush. And it would tie for 13th strongest Q under Clinton. Not to take anything away from Trump, just important to not lose sight of the historical perspective.
