I personally want an offensive minded HC in the NFL of today....if we go a defensive minded HC. I just hope he keeps his fingers out of the offensive. Hire your guy and move on.

Some reports had Flores having two interviews. Apparently it was incorrect they didn’t need a virtual with Mike or Flores with being familiar with both candidates. So only one for Flores.
Flores is well-rounded. He's been a head coach for three seasons. He's been a defensive coordinator for three seasons, including the #3 overall D in 2025. He coached special teams, safeties, and linebackers while in New England.
As long as he hires a competent young OC, I've got no problem with BF as the Steelers' next head coach.

..not really sure why some people are putting Flores in their first tier.

Miami was #29 in total defense in 2018, #15 by his third year. Minnesota was #31 in total defense in 2022, #3 by his third year. So, yes, I'm confident he can improve the team on the defensive side of the ball, and as I mentioned, a good OC hire would also be prerequisite.

When it comes to Flores, it really boils down to whether one thinks he got a fair chance to succeed with the Dolphins.
If it's felt he didn't, he is definitely someone who deserves another shot, but he has a lot of baggage as well as he technically is still suing the league.
I don't necessarily think I would prefer Flores over Shula or one of the Kubiak brothers, but I would also not be pissed if they took a shot on him.
Ten years all but cheat was on the O side of expertise this is a passing league. The man has not won one playoff game, not even lucking into one.

Sorry definitely not my first second or third choice.

Chad O'Shea who's with Cleveland now. Chan Gailey (hired out of retirement) who was immediately back out of the league. Eric Studesville and George Godsey as co-coordinators. Flores arguably had significantly worse OC hires than Tomlin. Ryan Fitzpatrick had some unfavorable reviews regarding Flores as well. Obviously, coaches can change, but getting a top offensive staff with Flores at head coach is a concern.
It is like trying to force a square peg into a round hole. We are hoping all these listed concerns work out for a team notorious for holding onto HCs.

I guess it was the man's fault last year when his defense, in a wild card game on the road, held the Rams to 292 yards and 20 points, but the mighty Vikings offense could only score 9. Or it was the man's fault that the Dolphins 10-6 record in 2020 happened to not qualify them for the playoffs, even though a guy like Mike Tomlin has made the postseason 4 out of the last 5 years at 10-7 or worse. Or I suppose it wasn't Minnesota's QB injuries that prevented them from going better than 9-8 this year, it must have been the man's #3 defense to blame. OK. Whatever you say.

Great, Flores isn't one of your top choices. All I said was that I'd be fine if he's hired because he's got a lot of experience in different areas on defense and special teams. Take a chill pill, guy.
OK, go ahead and research why those coaches were hired and then left. I don't want to waste my time doing that, because @slashsteel has assured me that there's too many problems with Flores, and Rooney won't hire him, so the point is moot.

I'm kind of in the same boat.
I'll be honest -- I really don't know much about the younger candidates. When the Steelers hire somebody, I'll do the research. What I do know is that Flores could/should have been hired as the Steelers DC back in 2022, but Tomlin went with a yes-man in Austin instead. Flores is clearly not that. Three years later, the Vikings had the #3 defense, while Pittsburgh was #26.
I'd also be good if he ends up on board as the DC, but why would he take a lateral move after interviewing to be the HC for the same franchise?

I see how Flores is comparable to Tomlin—winning without an offense. I also saw that he struggled to develop an offense.
O’Shea was supposedly fired because a playbook that was too complex. Gailey resigned—he did come out of retirement to take the job. The Ringer reported Flores abrasiveness made it difficult for him to hire an OC and he was eventually fired because he didn’t get along with Tua, the GM or owner, likely because he wanted Herbert over Tua.
You are measured by your success or lack there of.
Yeah I blame him being there for three years and not one playoff victory he gets some blame for that why wouldn’t he? Cmon you are smart enough to know he just didn’t get it done. When it happens with two teams there has to be an element of his fault even if he shares the blame. And subsequently it makes him a question mark for that with the same problem we had with Mike.
Not sure why that wouldn’t be a concern.
