McCarthy stopped by the office for a Primanti sammich and a cup of coffee. It wasn't really an interview.
This doesn’t surprise you guys right?
Y’all know the history of the Rooney family, correct?
If I’m not mistaken, the surname McCarthy gives a firm indication of being Irish
Catholic… and being a native Pittsburgher to boot!
Read the history of your favorite organization and how the Chief took favor upon players and coaches of Irish catholic descent over the years..
Hell he had a directive, even after he left running the organization, that he or those selecting players in the draft would select a player with an Irish Catholic surname sometime during the draft.
How do you think Rocky Blier became a Steeler? You all know Rocky, son of Irish immigrants, and Notre Dame football player. It was also the Chiefs directive to the team that no one take Rocky’s locker while he was basically incapacitated and told he would never play football again after being wounded serving-our country in Vietnam. No other owner in the league would’ve done this and kept Rocky on the team even after he couldn’t perform for the next year or two.
If it wasn’t for the Chiefs fondness of this fine young Irish Catholic man, we would’ve never had the honor of having Rocky as a proud member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who continues to be a great ambassador to the organization in the entire city.
Not saying, this is the driving reason of the McCarthy interview, just saying sometimes the nut doesn’t fall far from the tree.
