The head coach search

In fairness, Flores was ultimately proven right about Tua, who he probably didn't want to draft in the first place.

Not excusing Flores' "tough love" toward Tua if it crossed the line like Tua suggests, but the "positive reinforcement" from the wizard McDaniel's ultimately didn't do Tua much good either.

Though also in fairness to Tua, his eggs might be scrambled now from the severity of the concussions he's experienced.
Tua's first two years with Flores, he threw for 1,814 yards with 11TDs and 2,653 with 13 TDs.

His first two years after Flores, 3,548 with 25 TDs, 4,264 with 29 TDs

Personal and team injuries have hurt him the past couple of years. You may be on to something about the concussions as well.

those numbers just soured my Flores likeness

It's kind of self explanatory, having a top QB is always the ideal spot as the rest of the components are easier to find.

Whoever the Steelers sign has to build that offense from scratch as there's no starting QB and worst yet, almost zero chance to get one in the draft.

They'll have to make lemonade from lemons. What sucks even more? We have no idea if Howard can be that guy. He has yet to take one meaningful snap.

If the search lasts beyond this week it's definitely going to be Shula or Scheelhaase. Shula's name was leaked so early, I think he's the top target and the job is his once the Rams' season is over.
Literally the only reason I was hoping the bears would win Sunday lol

Thing is if it was one of the current crop of yahoos wouldn’t they be more aggressive knowing they want to get the ball rolling with the new staff etc.?

I agree if it goes on past this week it will be one of the possibilities that can’t be formally interviewed until their end of season.

Other QBs played a lot during Tua's first couple years.

Tua's rookie year he split time with Ryan Fitzpatrick, while the Dolphins were 15th and scoring and won 10 games. It was the year that Flores had Chan Gailey as offensive coordinator, I believe.

Things still didn't end well for Tua with McDaniels either, though there was a brief period where Tua "kind of" looked like a franchise QB.

Could just be that Tua isn't very good, but McDaniels was able to work some magic out of him for a couple years before the league adjusted.

Just because Flores isn't a McDaniels-level offensive mind is not something to automatically be concerned about, IMO.

Few are, and we know where Flores' expertise lies.

When you have red paint, you paint the barn red, someone once said. Obviously. And things of that nature.

I'm all for discovering it through camp and season, worst case scenario we improve draft spot for 2027 QB search

We won’t have none of that common sense around here.

I’m hearing a lot of Mike McCarthy talk on sports talk radio in Pittsburgh today.
Supposedly he turned down Titan’s interview this week before they made their hire and turned down some other interview requests.
Rooney simply cannot be serious about hiring this guy who is twice fired and 63 years old.
If he hires McCarthy I really have to question Art’s mental acuity at 73 years of age. That would be totally ridiculous and absolutely a dagger to the heart.
Dallas couldn’t wait to run this guy out of town.
Please tell me this ain’t so!

Stark Motorcycles are kicking the **** out of the gas competitors on some of the top circuits. Pretty soon, motocross is going to sound like a bunch of drones hizzing around.

Have to pull for a Seattle victory or else they'll have to wait until after the Super Bowl and no one want that.

They can personal interview before the SB. That 2-week window is reason why.

Be cool if they announced new HC before SB, but not sure if that is allowed.

May as well try and get Cignetti in if age isn't a factor. He has stated that he's a college coach and prefers that.

McCarthy should have happened 10 years ago.

I'm guessing they're going younger. Whomever it is had better have their **** together. They'll need to hire an OC,DC,ST and position coaches.

That's no easy undertaking at all. That's a big full plate of getting **** right.

I have to think they won’t go against the grain here and will decide to go with the young DC Chris Shula.
I’m sure Shula has a list of candidates for the coordinators and assistant coaches he’d want.
Hiring old McCarthy really goes against what they’ve done since 1969.
Running it back with McCarthy and expecting different results like winning a playoff game is insane.
An old defense that will be another year older. No QB at this time other than Mason and Howard who has yet to take a snap. One receiver.
That would be totally insane. Far too many holes to think you can run this back.

My big concern is if they go with a DC and happen to develop a young QB, after two years the OC is gone. So many of these young quarterbacks are system players. They can continue to thrive if the HC is the one calling the plays. Others lose their coordinator and drop off.

Tua Tagovailoa said his former Miami Dolphins coach, Brian Flores, was a "terrible person" who consistently demeaned him, telling him he "sucked" and didn't belong, creating self-doubt, contrasting sharply with new coach Mike McDaniel's positive reinforcement, which Tua finds essential for a quarterback's growth and success. Tua stated Flores' negative coaching made him feel he hadn't earned his spot, while McDaniel's supportive style helped him thrive, and believes Flores' harsh methods are outdated for building a successful QB-coach relationship.
So Mike McDaniel's "positive reinforcement" really showed its worth when he benched Tua at the end of this season, didn't it? Clearly it helped Tua thrive while he was holding a clipboard for Quinn Ewers over the last three games before McDaniel himself got canned.

Who gives a shlt if Flores is (or isn't) a terrible person? It's about whether or not the guy can coach. And he sniffed out Tua for the fraud that he was very early on. After years of buddy-buddy bullshit with Tomlin and so many players, a little bit of tough love and discipline would be welcomed by me.
