The aftermath: what the talking heads are saying.

Perhaps Ben wasn't happy with the game plan. He's a gunslinger and maybe he wanted to come out throwing but the game plan called for running it against one of the worst passing defenses in the league.

Read in one of the Pittsburgh paper sites that is always trying to make excuses for the Steelers...in regards to them not taking it seriously and taking Baltimore lightly... D.A. Williams was quoted as saying he didn't notice an difference in how they prepared for this game. THAT was a quote intended to defend the Steelers' preparation, showing that they prepared sufficiently. But I personally have a problem with that. Playoffs on the line...heated rival...always plays down to inferior competition...why wouldn't you prepare differently? Add a little energy to the place. Let Peezy go all...Peezy on them?

i was thinking the same thing. Ben thinking he can throw for 500 yards and the game plan is all about running.

And I'm fine with that so going by your criteria in every loss he was outcoached. So simple question in the games the Steelers won was Tomlin the superior coach?

well we know when it comes to making it into the playoffs and actually winning in the playoffs he's far from superior

Andrew, do you seriously have no problem with Sundays performance?

And of course the opposite isn't true. A LOT of the criticism of Tomin is because of his race. Being critical is one thing questioning someone's intelligence at every turn is another. "The dumb **** should have taken the points"

What bullshit. Maybe Tomlin's intelligence is questioned because he does dumb **** like routinely butcher clock management and going for 2 from the 12 yard line.

BTW, Cowher was constantly referred to as just a rah rah guy and not an " Xs and Os" coach which was wrong but still it was said often.

Which is obviously the same thing as calling someone a dumb *** or stupid. Yep pretty much the same

**** yes they lost. And they more then likely screwed the pooch on the playoffs. Hell yes. I have a problem with the way they played.

actually i can so don't be a ***** and answer, oh thats right

I'm a ***** but you still didn't answer the question

But the game plan was well thought out, halftime adjustments were correct and coaching satisfactory.

So I will answer the question since your a punk ***** Xc944. Using Stillwrigt criteria Tomlin has been the superior coach more then he has been the inferior coach over his career. Making him a good coach..to answer your pussyfooting additional question winning in the playoffs would make him great coach. So he is a good coach not great. Which is what I've always said. He is a good coach.

So what factual things are you basing this on do you want me to speculate??

It was 4th and 1. Tomlin had the choice of kicking a 42 yard field goal or go for the first down with Williams who had 3 rushes for 46 yards at that point. I had no problem going for it, but I would have liked to see a different play call instead. Something that would spread them out.

Imagine Tomlin winning the coin toss in over time and deciding to kick off. ........This board would crashed. That said Tomlin has made numerous ,mistakes during his tenure here. Being aggressive with this offense early in the game is not one of them in my opinion. The play call in that situation was the issue. The formation to be exact.

The Rats stacked the box and blew up the gaps. I thought for sure Ben would audible out of a run for a quick TE out or something. D Williams was set deep too like he was going to block. When Ben handed off we all yelled: "NOOOOO"
****

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the formation, they were advertising run, daring them to stop them. And they had nine in the box. I was thinking, if they are going to run , they should have gone with a goal line type play with a full back leading the way.
Then I thought maybe they were going to go play action and pass cause they had single coverage on both receivers. And it would have worked too cause all nine in the box played the run leaving the middle of the field wide open.
But when they ran the play, I was looking for him to bounce it to the outside cause he would have made the first down and more.

Which is obviously the same thing as calling someone a dumb *** or stupid. Yep pretty much the same

It is pretty much the same thing for a coach. And plenty of people did outright call cowher dumb and want him fired. Why should Tomlin be exempt from the same scrutiny?

Even more people called Arians dumb and stupid. Says something about their evaluation skills.

I'm a ***** but you still didn't answer the question

I reeeeaaly don't want to keep beating this horse....it's much more appropriate in another forum...But it seems you've left some questions unanswered as well. No need to reply here, start a thread in P&R if you want but don't be a hypocrite.

C'mon man.....you've never referred to someone a dumb *** regardless of their actual level of intelligence?

The slang word "jive" (along with hip and dig) is generally attributed to the black culture. One example of that below but there are many.

How is it racist then to label a black mans words with a word attributed to the black culture? I seriously doubt anyone would be feeling or feigning butthurtness if someone had said they "dig" the way Tomlin coaches or that his words were "hip."

If I said Tomlin was rapping about the the play at the presser, would that be racist too? Or just outdated, ergo, not hip? I just think sometimes people need to shorten their butthurt antennae and quit looking so hard for reasons to be offended.

You serious?

I still wouldn't want Arians as an offensive coordinator. Nothing that he has done as a head coach has changed that opinion.

I'll have to go back and watch to confirm, but I believe the second half defense was better and forced some punts. Remember they had at least one short field on the second INT. In today's NFL giving up 20 pts with two giveaways should allow us to win with our offense. Offense was just not there Sunday. Bad play, bad plan, whatever. The defense was what it has been, what we pretty much thought it would be all year. Remember the pats** game defense to start the year?

I can't get over the fact that we had the ball with nearly 3 minutes and did nothing. The last two plays were all or nothing types instead of getting the first down. We turn it over on downs with over 1 1/2 minutes left.

Defense did in fact stop them on 3 & 2 while the score was only 17-20 with 6:33 left.....Ben promptly hit jimmy smith on the side line.

Offense failed. They scored only 20....we were averaging 30+.....offense took the day off.
