Steelers work out two punters and a LS

You must be depressed seeing all the hate and blame being thrown at your boy Tomlin. He has always sucked now the local media is finally being emboldened to tell the truth instead of being the Rooney's lapdogs.

Yet punting isn't his only job. So is kick holding. The FG Kicker just had 2 shanks in perfect weather in OT that let to a tie, and one was Wile's fault. That's how a punter can make an impact in a game...

Boz has missed 3 kicks in 2 games, Berry must not be doing his job in that regard then.

Great observation Ark. I might add, why was the up back so successful on that run back? Because the player who was supposed to tackle him didn’t contain nor cover. That player was Matthew Thomas. This is why we are not seeing him on defensive packages at this stage. He has a history of being slow to pick up alignments, looks and calls.

Barry didn't botch a hold, Wile did. You have to watch games to figure these thing out. They aren't in stat sheets...

Also a reason why NFL teams like Aussie Football players. They can catch. Great high snap placed down perfectly by Berry in OT in Cleveland. Wile watching that ball sail down field with no chance for Boz to shank it...

But of course wile was great at place holding during the preseason, just another Tomlin screw up keeping the poor berry even though he was even worse than ususal this preseason.

How do you figure wile is "much better". During preseason all but one of his punts were from our end of the field. Easy to jus just wail away and fool people who only think the avg means everything.

Now, in real games he is less than 2yd better on that same stat AND has had a punt blocked.
 
He has a much stronger and much more consistent leg. You do realize the block is not his fault and hurts his average. He also has 6 punts downed inside 20 to only 4 for Berry.Everyone saw the difference between the 2 and only the idiot Tomlin went with the worst punter and now he is trying out punters to correct another of his many mistakes.

I dont think they take the block into account when calculating the avg. Not, entirely, sure though.

Always an excuse for the guy tomlin didnt pick, though, eh?

150 years ago when I was high school kicking, I had the best kick off average and net average in the state. 2nd to last game We attempted an on-side kick. We didn't recover but they used that in the figures and I missed out on the accolade by a fraction. SO going from my past experience, I can honestly say I don't know a ******* thing as to if it is counted or not.

Pop, it's not your fault, you don't understand there is a snap, catch, placement, and kick on every XP or FG, and the holder does 2 of those motions that are integral to the kick. Since you don't watch football for technical glitches in performance, like I do, you don't understand the mechanics of place holding. Barry has NEVER bobbled a catch or failed to place the ball properly in 2 years. Why? Cause he played Aussie football. He's athletic, unlike a pro punter, who has to learn how to catch and place hold, when it's something he didn't do growing up.

You will fail to learn lessons if you fail to learn from your own mistakes.

I prefer a better punter while we are getting killed game in and game out in the punting game instead of a world class holder when the league average is near 80 % on FGs with very few Aussie holders. But are you saying it’s all Berry’s fault? So how do you know more about the mechanics than what Cope does? Seems like you “pontificate” just as you say Cope does, but still wrong in the process as well.

Are you even aware why punters are the de facto place kicker holder in today’s game?

I have no idea if its the holder but the moron says teams covet aussie football players as holders and punters is asinine. Punting is a skill not an athletic feat and of course Wile is a better punter with a vastly superior and CONSISTENT leg than Berry who has been at the bottom pf both the punting average and net punting stats for 3 years and counting as a Steeler. Tomlin stupidly went with the inferior punter this year and it has already cost us to the point he is auditioning replacements.

On the long punt return the Chiefs had scouted Berry and knew he had a weak and inconsistent leg so they put an ADDITIONAL returner in the game with Hill so he could field and return the expected short punt. That is coaching and game planning something tomlin knows little about.
 
I hope the placement problems as to why bos missed the FG and and the XP kinks were worked out. Heard it could be a rainy muddy game Monday night.

Of course I know why punters are the holders. They have the time to work with the holder and kicker while the regular players practice.

On the missed fg/xp, there was plenty of video and analysis that the holds were good, during the game.

Btw, i dont think berry is all that great either. But, it is clear (or should be) that future HOFer Wile is not much better, therebis not proof that if he is at all better.. You dont replace a guy because "anybody is better". Weve seen that not be true many times.
