Steelers select Dri Archer in Round 3

Same with Tibs. He's a ****-stirrer, always has been. But that's his thing; he's here for fun and never takes this stuff seriously I'm sure.
Absolutely correct. I've always enjoyed the board....sometimes, we even get a little football talk in, which is icing on the cake. ;)

For the record, I do think Archer will be effective as an occasional slot WR, sometime RB, and gadget play guy.

My problem is that at the end of the year, we will look at Archer's 500 or so yards and we'll look at a few of the CBs who were available at his selection and we'll wish we had the CB.

tape is racist and hates Bomma

Even if we're back in the playoffs? Even if Archer not only accumulates 500 or so yards but in the process helps open up the offense for Brown, Miller, Bell et al. Even if Archer scores a couple of game-changing TD's at critical points of the season to help win a game or two, hence the playoff finish? Will we still be lusting after a cornerback at that point, I wonder?

We can do that every year with every pick. Hindsight being 20/20 and all.

Once again, have you considered a career in the media? Where's the first part of that post, or the one that was replied to, you know the one where I talked about how last years big thread was Jarvis Jones, but since everyone liked the first two picks this year, it's the Archer pick everyone is up in arms about. Are they wasting bandwidth arguing with themselves? Sure are, is that a complaint? No, it's a statement. FOURTY SIX pages of the SAME arguments over and over is what the problem is. See the difference there? It's not different arguments, it's not new stories about Archer... it's the same "he's too small" "no he'll show everyone up" arguments back and fourth.

And once again, this was brought up because your boyfriend, Idioteque took offense to something not directed at him personally.

But since you'd rather discuss the merits of players, when are you going to start? I posted my opinion of Archer, but you don't give two ***** about that, you'd rather get on my case about a comment that you are taking out of context over and over again. See a trend starting to develop?

IF you'd ******* the read first 30 pages of this you'd see my thoughts on Archer. But you didn't. You just jumped in half way and started crying about a 46 page post about Archer. Just because you didn't like a long post about Jarvis this year has NOTHING to do about the point. It actually makes my case. You like to ***** about long posts... even last year.

So 1st: I made myself perfectly clear about Archer. 2nd you didn't read it. 3rd you keep bitching about a thread length that you post in to keep going. I indeed see a trend.... Now go blow you boyfriends off and post some more about how you hate long posts with the same arguments over and over... all the while saying the same thing over and over yourself.

Dont stop there. Maybe he'll win the rushing title too.

He is going to be a role player. Didn't they draft Martavis Bryant to do all that? Offense controls the ball. That means you can dictate to the defense. Wheaton is pretty damn fast too and could likely handle whatever niche role Haley has planned for Archer, especially with the additions of Bryant, Lance Moore, and Heyward Bey.

Out of those spare parts, a good OC could cobble together a similar effect as Archer.

CB is different. The steelers lost the SB to GB because they couldn't cover the 3rd option Jordy Nelson. Defense has to match the offense and if you can't match up, you're likely screwed.

All good points tape. Believe me, I too was jonesing for a CB early this draft. Didn't happen. There's always next year to finally start rebuilding that CB depth.... unless - by some minor act of God - Shaq Richardson turns out to be a keeper.

No worries. They'll just draft 2 CBs next year who will step right in as rookies and start from game one.

Not true. archer was not drafted to be anything but a role player. That's his ceiling. I'm actually giving him a big benefit of the doubt by assuming 500 yards from him in his rookie year. That would be a great year.

Im actually assuming a reasonable best case scenario for Archer.

My point is that if Archer does what is reasonably expected to be his top end which is about 500 yards and maybe some return yards, and you compare that to a CB taken in that range that becomes a solid startr or nickel CB, I take the CB.

Imagine you could add 1 of the following 2 players to the steelers if they were in this years draft and available at pick 3
Dexter McCluster - established player similr to Archer
DeShea Townsend - good but not great CB approximately equal to the type CB available in rd 3.

I'm taking Deshea Townsend, easy.

Lol damn Dicknocchio I could of sworn I said was fine. How did you twist that into all that. Your flair for the dramatic is admirable and aggravating at the same time..

you really are ******* dense aren't you? I WAS NOT COMPLAINING. Even about the Jarvis thread, I WAS MAKING A POINT THAT EVERY ******* YEAR THERE ARE HUGE THREADS LIKE THIS WHERE PEOPLE CAN'T COME UP WITH NEW MATERIAL AND IT'S COMICAL!

Now, that I've said that for the FOURTH ******* time...Yes you DID comment on Archer in the beginning, but you chimed in RECENTLY, choosing my post SPECIFICALLY, taking it completely out of context. THE ONLY PERSON THAT IS BITCHING at the moment, IS YOU! I've read this ENTIRE ******* THREAD.... It makes me laugh, I didn't post in the beginning because TMC and Idioteque were basically making my points for me (although Idiot has taken this whole thing to an entirely different level). SPIKE made a comment about it being a long *** thread about a third rounder... you know what, I don't know why I keep explaining myself to you over and over again... it doesn't seem to be getting THROUGH that thick *** skull of yours...

But then again, this is why threads like this exist. Person A says this, Person B translates it as something COMPLETELY different, then won't accept any other answer no matter what. I didn't come to the defense of anyone here, unlike you... so the boyfriend comment, well it just doesn't apply to me. So kindly take your holier than thou bullshit, and insert it into your gaping *******. Cheers!

And that's where my disagreement is with you, and others, regarding Archer. I think it's way too early to pigeonhole what type of player he is, or what his ceiling will be, until we see him on the field, in games, doing what he does. I happen to think his ceiling is higher than that. But for me it won't be about his total yards per se. It will be his impact on games, impact on opposing defenses, his splash-play ability. If you're right, and all he turns out to be is a middling talent, a seldom used utility player, then for sure I'll come around and agree it wasn't the right pick. But again, it's simply too early to tell.

Apparently after Phillip Gaines went off the board the Steelers didnt like the any CBs til Richardson. They thought the drop off after Gaines value wise was too much.

this thread is just fantastic that is really what I think oh by the way which one's.....

Par?

Damn still sparring going on, be back at 100 to see who gets the split decision.

i've figured it out. Those going back and forth in this thread actually belong to a secret society here in SteelerNation that is using the Archer debate as a façade to get to the infamous Wally World avatar

Here is your entire first quote. Please show me where COMICAL is in this post:

Taking things personal are we? I didn't mention your name in my post did I? What did I say that was wrong? Last year everyone hated the Jones pick, so that was the thread that went on forever and ever. This year everyone is wasting bandwidth on a third round pick. No one is giving up, when both sides should. 46 pages of the same **** over and over again... FOURTY SIX PAGES!!!! Let that sink in, then you climb off of that high horse your so proud to sit on and give it a rest.

You are BITCHING about the length of the posts and that nobody is going to give up. But you just keep spinning because you are just as bad as everyone else. You won't let it go. So take your spinning *** and go **** yourself.

Pretty cool the board software changes a regular c into a fancy c in façade. Hmmm...

**** all you *************.

:)

You are WAY off. We will hear in December how CB is the #1 priority and they have to take a CB. It will be the mantra all through the combine and pro days. If you mention another position, people will call you an idiot. We HAVE to take a CB. Then, on draft day, when they take a punter, fullback, and return specialist with the first three picks of the draft, they will tell you how those guys are destined for the HOF.

Wash, rinse, repeat.
