Steelers select CB Senquez Golson

Again, it is the same principle. He does not have the skills to do well in the NFL. As a 4th rounder, fine.

He has ZERO, and I mean ZERO percent chance of being an impact NFL player.

ZERO, NONE, ZERO. Could have just passed on the pick and it would have not many any difference.

LOL. Really? Did you forget yours daily meds or something? I mean. MEDS!!!!!!

Are you Gregory's dad? PR rep?

No but this is a classic example of how the media can influence the masses by attacking someone's character who is questionable and knocking him down.

Bullying almost!

I just want to see Gregory stick it up everyone's ******* when it comes to his NFL play and character! I hope he's a model player for the Cowboys!

I just don't understand the venom. I know he is undersized, I get that. But from reports the guy is a competitor and he actually picks the ball off. Hell, he has more picks than about 5 of the bigger guys some of you want combined. I just don't understand it. The Steelers don't get turnovers, yet some of you want to draft guys who don't get turnovers. Just because they fit some size ratio you think is important?

This

Everything I've seen when I watch him play, and read about him, tells me we are going to love this kid. He is a competitor and a play maker on the ball, which we are desperate for. Brent Grimes is a small guy who picks the ball off and nobody seems too worried there. Cortez Allen is a big guy who gets burnt constantly. I'm happy as hell with this pick and I'm so glad we have addressed both of our major needs already.

he is now a cowboy...I hope he wakes and bakes everyday

I like the pick. He will play the slot WR. That's a bigger need than an outside CB. Cortez has size. Cortez is OK against physical WRs, it's the quick ones that kill the steelers. Golson is the answer for that.

Most importantly, he has ball skills, unlike EVERBOY else on the steeler defense.

This is the steelers drafting a pure coverage player and not a DB who can tackle the catch. I think they will draft another CB later.

You're quite full of yourself.

Malcolm Butler made this year's most impactful interception. He's 5'10", 187 lbs. He came from West Alabama. Not the Crimson Tide.
He ran a 4.62 40.
13 reps on the bench.
Vertical 33.5"

Senquez Golson: He's 5'9", 186 lbs. He played at Ole Miss, not West Alabama.
He ran a 4.46 40.
15 reps on the bench.
Vertical 33.5"

But hey, you got it all figured out.

It does give me some comfort to hear Vader pimp a guy with the same size measurables as Dri Archer.

Honestly, I don't know if we drafted him to start. With Gay and Cortez on the outside, I'd be happy to have him in the slot. We mostly play nickel anyway.

One thing I really liked about him is he appears to be a willing and aggressive tackler. One thing I hate about him, is after the INT he holds the ball like a QB looking to pass. That needs corrected immediately!!!

My issue with Archer wasn't just his size. He had no position in the NFL and was injury prone. I've seen Golson in person and even though he is short he can carry a little more weight. He's still an inch taller than Archer and can probably add 10 lbs easy. But he also has a real position. He can play CB and has the potential to be a starter. Archer at his very best is a return man with a few plays on offense. He could never be a full time starter.

who knows maybe he will just stick in the slot but improve that area of the D. Which is why I will wait and see. But I feel we can't pigeon hole him on the outside and say ok we are fine. One way or another another body on the outside is needed IMO...............

very well put I somewhat agree but 5'9 is probably stretching it height wise for the kid and sometimes a little over a inch in height in the NFL can make a difference....

will it in this case?

of course I always hope for the best... look at potential problems and then hope for improvement in areas needed....

so, there's one thing that I'm not quite certain yet, did fogdoctor liked or hated the pick?

We now have our dri archer thread for 2015 the steelers pull another one. Lets keep doing it the hard way.:wtf:::'(:

actually I still like this pick better than dri... I can see this kid working out in the slot, which would still be better production than what dri gave us

Terrible pick for the second round, no impact. We ****** up again, reminds me of selecting Archer last year.....wtf????

OVERVIEW
In 2014, unanimous first-team All-American and first-team All-SEC selection. Tied school record for interceptions with 10. Was a Bronko Nagurski finalist. Made 10 starts in 2013 with 41 total tackles. In 2012, played for both the football and baseball teams, making 6 starts for the football team and scoring 13 runs and stealing 5 bases for the baseball team. Selected in eighth round of 2011 Major League Baseball draft by Boston Red Sox as a center fielder.

PRO DAY RESULTS
60-yard shuttle: 11.93 seconds
Bench press: 16 reps
ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS Outstanding competitor with plus ball skills. Production was off the charts in 2014. Had 9 interceptions and 16 pass deflections. Explosive through lower body. Instinctive. Can twitch and trigger to break on the ball. Can mirror in space and closes down passing windows. Plays with smooth hips and good balance. Can open hips to turn and run and has good top-end speed. Willing and effective against the run. Maintains leverage against the run and can disengage to make aggressive tackle when necessary. Has good eye discipline and can focus on his man and the quarterback at the same time.
WEAKNESSES Worked primarily in zone and off-man coverage. Needs to show NFL evaluators that he can get in a receiver's pocket and stay there from press-man. Might be considered too small to play outside in the NFL. Three of his four touchdowns allowed came against receivers 6-foot-4 or taller. Smallish frame combined with aggressive tackling could lead to durability concerns.
DRAFT PROJECTION Round 3 or 4
SOURCES TELL US "He has that love of football we look for. He turned down big money as a baseball player to lock in on football, and he plays with passion and with explosive talent." -- AFC South regional scout
NFL COMPARISON Brent Grimes
BOTTOM LINE Golson has the twitch, ball skills and instincts to be an outstanding cornerback in the NFL. Despite playing so much zone in college, there is no reason to believe he can't transition to any coverage asked of him. He's well put-together, but his lack of height could force some teams to view him as a slot-only corner. Golson has Pro Bowl potential.

a quick cover corner with good ball skills and not afraid to tackle.....

if he was taller he would have been a first rounder.

maybe a bit of a reach in round 2, but the Steelers NEED good corners...they may of found one

if he can be a real contributor from opening day I'll understand this pick. We do need a good nickel CB from the get go

It's funny, all this talk about the tall tight ends and how he will match up, one of the highlights from last year was a pick he had over OJ Howard of Alabama 6-6 240, that sealed the win for Ole Miss.

My issue with Archer wasn't just his size. He had no position in the NFL and was injury prone.

False.

Dante Hall and Jermaine Lewis were also slight bodied shrimps, but were excellent return specialists.

The problem with Archer is that he wasn't slotted into being a pure returner. He never even got the punt returning gig, so he was one of a few kickoff specialists. No way for him to make an impact that way.

I agree that we dropped the ball by using him wrong, but seeing as how we've had very little in the way of big returns for some time, it made sense to draft a specialist with his change of direction skills.

Archer was a coaching mistake, not a bad pick.

I think he'll be a CB in 2015, but wouldn't be surprised if he ends up the free safety down the road.
I'd like to have a ball hawk at FS. There has been some talk they'll move Mitchell to SS.

Good pick...I trust Carnell Lake (and Co.) opinions over what us regular schmos think...

How many years have we seen the steelers get beat by teams with quick underneath WR? That's why the Pats beat the steelers. Now the steelers have a CB who can play that game.

False.

Archer was a bad pick because he had an injury history, had 6 total PRs in college, and has no position at the NFL level. Hall was a 5th round pick who did KR and PR in college as well as being a RB. He is also an inch taller and almost 20 lbs heavier than Archer. Lewis was also a 5th round pick. But he was also a WR. He set the ACC record for receptions. He was used as a PR, KR, and WR. I don't take any KR specialist in the 3rd round. Especially one that can't play RB or WR at the NFL level and wasn't even used by his college team to return punts. He was a bad pick.

He is a great guy but he's simply too small. he is 5-9 176 hes simply too small... The rules have turned the league into a jumpball league. It is what it is but we simply refuse to get that. The last few years big receivers have shredded us. We then go out and draft thomas at 5-9 and now this guy at 5-9. Let say he starts on opening day which he won't, but say he does, we have 5-10 gay, 5-9 thomas, 5-9 golson. Against New England. Are you Fuking kidding me? Does our front office even watch football? lowest sack total since 1989 when knoll coached and we pass on randy Gregory best pass rusher in the draft. If Gregory was drafted and all you had him do was shadow tight ends, it would be a better pick than this because we play every good tight end in football this year! And I mean all the good ones and it does not take a genius to figure out we are going to have a hard time stopping any of them when they put them out wide...
