Steelers select Bud Dupree in the 1st round

I'm hearing so much contradictory **** about this guy. Some say he is a 43 pass rusher but they have a big positive being he is very good in coverage. When does a 43 DE play pass coverage. Pass coverage and ability to play from a two point should be the biggest factor keeping him off the field. At this point all I can say for certain is that he needs a new Haircut cause he looks like he should be in star wars and a bigger helmet as he is poking out of his current one.

With ya on the hair cut I think Lilly Tomlin made that famous with her skit about the phone company. The guy played all over the place on his college team and they had him rushing and covering guys and he does look good in coverage. The kid looks like a great player and posted slightly better numbers than a guy named Javon Kearse who went on to have a very good NFL career.

I never thought he would slide, solid pick as we could have hoped for.

I really pay the inconsistent pass rush labels no mind.

He dropped into coverage and moved around a decent amount of time, that will dip into production, but yet he still had solid run production and had enough sacks to not send out uhoh's.

And out of the three OLBErs available NO RED FLAGS and was known to be a leader. That can't be overlooked on a D that was perhaps short of leaders.

I picked Gregory in the guessing game because I knew he would slide, this cat has just as much potential without the baggage.

As Charlie Sheen would say

WINNING

My first thought was "Kentucky has a football team, and we got a player from that ghost team as our first rounder?" Then I thought his suit was hideous.

Hoping he isn't a wasted pick. Time will tell.

At first I wasn't happy with the pick, especially since Byron Jones was still on the board. Then I remembered that James Harrison is not getting any younger and Jarvis Jones stinks so far, so it wasn't a bad pick. If we can address the CB situation in the second round, I'll be happy

I am happier with this pick the more I learn about it. The kid looks like he will be the real deal and will definitely put some speed in the pass rush along with size 4.56 seconds in the 40 and 270lbs this kid will be good. Now if we get two corners we will have Alvin and the chipmunks but he is faster than some defensive backs.

Love the pick, never thought he would be there (Especially after his combine). So glad he was there for us, not only did I want this guy, not only does he fill a need, he was the BPA.

I'm confused by the Randy Gregory love, people who wanted him over Dupree. So many people rag on Jarvis because of his weight and how underweight he is, yet they want a guy who played around 228, while he put weight on for his pro day getting into the 240's, it didn't take long to where he was back down to 230 during a pre draft visit. How is weight not an issue with Gregory, but it is with Jarvis. This is not an endorsement of Jarvis as much as it is a question regarding Gregory (Not to mention all the mental and character red flags). Dupree is 269, but moves like a guy at 230, while he is raw he will only get better. Everyone has their opinion I was just confused by people endorsing Gregory even with his weight, yet they will discount Jarvis for his weight, thats all I'm wondering.

I like the potential Dupree has and he's a tremendous athlete but his negatives are HUGE....Poor technique and small arms 32". Ideally you want a guy with 34-35" arm length, also not impressed with his 3 cone shuttle time either.

I don't buy into the fact that he's a raw talent....starting 38 college games in 4 years and your technique is to quote the experts "RAW" playing in the SEC I just don't buy it. If you were a 1 or two year guy then your RAW but if after 38 games your skillset is considered RAW then I feel like you might never develop into an impact LB'er in the NFL.

I hope I'm wrong but I'm not really in love with this pick....I know people hate Gregory and the personality/character issues/depression/weed issues but I'm telling ya that kid has all the tools necessary to be a special player in the NFL you watch. Whoever gets him in this draft will not regret it.

Even with our lack of OLB's Dupree is not a week 1 starter...heck in our defense he will be lucky to sniff the field 20 plays a game this season so this pick is IMO a project pick....and that's if Dupree can learn some techniques. To start almost 4 full years in college and not learn any technique other than a bull rush seems pretty pathetic. I mean don't these coaches at Div 1 schools teach these kids any technique? Technique is not something you can teach a player at this juncture of their careers. I hope I'm wrong but you either have the ability or you don't. Because when he gets beat he will not stick with learning that new technique he will resort to his poor techniques out of frustration because that's what happens to most players who lack the technical skillset to play at the next level.

Your first rounder should be a week 1 starter! Dupree I don't feel is a week 1 starter.

he was the 22nd pick, not the 5th. Gregory isnt nearly as amazing as you've been making him out to be, we wont miss him

As long as he busts heads i don't care. We need some Steel back in the Steelers defense! When Harrison is gone we'll be a bunch of cupcakes. Got to find that guy. I hope it's him.

He will be the elephant position that the depot guys have wanted on our D for a while. Think Peppers in Green Bay.

After a good night's rest - I'm content w/ the pick. I said it back in January - the top need was to identify and select a PASS RUSHING DEMON. Well, we got just that.

Well done:herewego::ty:

Don't know much about him, but it sounds like a good pick to me. Let's just hope he can stay healthy all season unlike the last 5 or so first round picks we've had.

Dude, wth? You got the wrong guy. I've never posted anything like that. I admittedly don't know jack about Gregory other than what I've read here. You have me confused with someone else.

He was referring to me, Crimson. The youngster is now on vacay...

His pants and jacket combo, with the bow tie, was outstanding. The "charcoal gray shirt" is what had me questioning his taste buds - but, truth be told - the outfit was LIGHT YEARS better than what Ryan Shazier wore last year...

Dupree plays a need position. He has good character and no major injures. But was he really a better pass rusher than Ray or Gregory? I think not. Then again Gregory could have some serious issues.

I do think Dupree is going to help us vs the run, and offer a solid pass rush. He's got some upside as a coverage player as well. My main criticism is his film and production. 7.5 sacks is the best he did in three seasons played. Dupree seems to lack some instincts. With his work out numbers, you'd expect more.

I've been wanting the Steelers to take a corner high in the draft for years now so I was really disappointed when Peters got picked. Once he was gone, along with Johnson, I figured they would be picking between Dupree, Ray, and Gregory and Dupree seems the safest pick of the three.

He certainly seems like an incredible athlete and I hope he turns into the next great LB. But we still need that corner!!

I still can't believe we didn't go after a quarterback. We HAVE to address the Landry Jones situation at some point! That 3rd string spot is killing us!

Strong side guy (Dupree) vs two guys you never want to see on that side (Gregory/Ray). They had no depth behind Moats at the OLB on the left side of the defense. Now they have someone who may eventually push Moats back into a reserve role before the end of the season.

And as you said, Dupree will hopefully offer more against the run than Gregory or Ray would have. As far as the 7.5 sacks, he ended his career as the active leader in sacks in the SEC. None of these guys come out of college as finished products. From all accounts Bud is intelligent and a hard worker. I expect he'll improve in regards to pass rush with Harrison and Porter showing him the ropes.

I'm thinking Cleveland would trade Johnny Bench on the cheap.
I keed, I keed....

Very likely yes, since Gregory and Ray lack the size and aren't even fits for the left side. We got the best player for that specific position.

First round picks at all 4 LB positions. They better bring their lunch pail to work. This strategy of drafting early helped the OL, now its time for the defense to up its game. Wasn't a fan of the pick for the official record. Hope he proves me wrong
