Steelers not counting on TE Ladarius Green

Smoke and mirrors by Colbert by pushing the Green story when in reality he had no interest in drafting a TE and it worked. Browns took the bait, jumped ahead and grabbed a TE which allowed a quality pass rusher to land in our lap.

it's the only thing that makes sense

I believe they only brought in 1 tight end for a pre-draft visit. I'm sure they were willing to draft one if great value appeared, but it was a lower priority. Either they are confident in Green's recovery or they feel like they'd still be in decent shape with James, Grimble & David Johnson.

James more then held his own last year

I guess we'll find out 2 ways about Green. If they take a TE today, he is gone. If he doesn't show up to OTA's in a couple weeks ready to "practice" and cleared from the concussion protocol, he is done.

Tombert will do everything they can to keep him on the team and get something out of him so it doesn't look like they made a mistake. It's bad enough that they had to let Jarvis walk. Admitting to two ****-ups in one year is not The Steeler Way. Green will be given every chance to succeed even if it means missing camp and going on the 8 week IR again. Just watch.

And there's no reason to believe he won't keep getting better and better. This will be a big year for him, his third, to start making a name for himself.

James is still young --- he's another guy like Artie Burns and JuJu S-S that wasn't old enough to buy a beer when we drafted him.

Just saw on Steelers.com that one of the pics had Green participating in team activities. If he were still in concussion protocol, I didn't think that was allowed. So, hopefully, this is a good sign.

Indeed. I hope he's ready to go. I also hope the Steelers not drafting a TE is an indication that they feel the same way. Green and James are a fine duo, we can roll with that.

Well duh. The alternative of just cutting the guy right now doesn't get you anything anyhow.

Oh, I know that. Cap-wise it is better to cut him in camp. I'm just saying I don't think they'll cut him no matter how strong the case is to do so.

I don't know, he looks kind of dazed to me.

if they were not counting on him, I would have expected them to have drafted one.

While I agree that if a hit like that concussed him, I don't like his future, the 247 article I read sounded like they expect him back. (Sorry I can't link). It was dated late March. That along with no take on a draft pick, I'm thinking Bouchette's source is inaccurate.

Bouchette's source, what source? He says he's not sure if the Steelers have plans for Green...sounds less informed than you or I indicating zero source to this piece of bs that should've never come from him....absolutely pointless for a reporter to report "I'm not sure if the Steelers have plans for Green." Absolutely pointless, couldn't you possibly write about something you have some semblance of a clue about?

I'm pretty sure the Steelers plan for Green to be their number 1 TE, bad plan, but I'm pretty sure they'll just hope for the best and wait for the worst...and trust me when I say I'm pretty sure the worst will happen (another concussion if other injury doesn't side line him first). How am I so sure? Past experience...when was the last time the Steelers cut bait with a well paid FA pickup before at least 2 seasons? They simply don't do it no matter how wrong they may have been signing the FA.
