The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ed Bouchette is "not sure the (Steelers') staff has any hopes" for Ladarius Green (concussions).

Along the same lines as conditionally-reinstated WR Martavis Bryant, the Steelers will likely view anything they get from Green this year as a bonus. Jesse James returns as Pittsburgh's primary in-line tight end, and Ben Roethlisberger has lobbied for a receiving option at the position. Bouchette indicated he expects the Steelers to draft a tight end, possibly on day two.

They should take that approach with Bryant, him, Golson, and Coates.

3 of the 4 should be on the bubble to make the roster..........

Leggett + Reynolds

That's a great approach, myself will approach Green as though he wopn't make it through training camp.......

Post June 1st cut? He would have a $1.2M hit of dead money against the cap but would free up $5M or keep him at $6.2M against the cap and maybe get a couple games out of him.

How would his concussion history play into that?

Green can sit on the bench dude. We can use a unsigned FA for that. Don't need a high pick at all.

Very unfortunate. But truthfully if he wasn't damaged goods would have he even been on this roster in the first place. How often do you see a young player with that skill set get away from his team after one contract little lone come to the Steelers. Too good to be true. And was.

good point

Hes damaged goods and duped the team / was not honest about his health. Screw him, and Colbert missed badly here.

So count him out!

Paging Jake Butt in round 3....

Butt to me is a jack of all trade types, but master of none. Round 4, or 5. I kind to like the TE out of Drake later in the draft. He's got some big time upside.

James was competent last season. But we need better.

I feel like James is stuck in the middle. It seems as if he's waiting to figure out his role in the offense. Is he a blocker, is he a receiver? Is he "mini-Heath"?

I just feel the moment James figures out exactly who he is, he's going to be something fairly special. I don't think he's quite been "given" the role or stepped up to it yet. Perhaps there was a good bit of "this is Ladarius' spot and you're just keeping it warm" last year. I don't know.

I guess we'll find out 2 ways about Green. If they take a TE today, he is gone. If he doesn't show up to OTA's in a couple weeks ready to "practice" and cleared from the concussion protocol, he is done.

Green was damaged goods when we signed him. Bad move by the FO. He is done. Cut him asap.

Thing is so many needs, I think this draft could very well end without the Steelers getting a TE they think is a difference maker / upgrade.

Perhaps they are holding out hoping they can salvage something anything from Green.

You have to cut him as to what makes best sense with the salary cap ramifications. I don't think anything bad happens if he is on roster till roster cuts durring training camp. Maybe we wait and see what we've got before this "cut him asap".

The Greene signing was a BIG mistake. I say cut him. Hell, you can find a rookie free agent TE that could do more than Greene.

Anyone hear anything about Green being at OTA's? See any pictures with him in them? There's no excuse for him not to be there working out unless he's still dealing with concussion symptoms and isn't cleared.

While I agree that if a hit like that concussed him, I don't like his future, the 247 article I read sounded like they expect him back. (Sorry I can't link). It was dated late March. That along with no take on a draft pick, I'm thinking Bouchette's source is inaccurate.

They really needed to take a TE in this draft somewhere. There were a lot of good players available. My only complaints in the draft were the QB in round 4 and the long snapper in round 6. We know Green is one big hit from being Eric Lindros'd out of football. They must like the other TEs we have on the roster a lot to not have added the depth.

I was hoping for Jake Butt TE Michigan in round 4 and not on Josh Dobbs.
Dobbs may have been there when we picked in the 5th. Brian Allen then could have most likely been taken in the 6th.
Long snapper most likely could have signed as F/A.
What do I know!

yeah but do you think butt was a solid tight end
:hororr:

Smoke and mirrors by Colbert by pushing the Green story when in reality he had no interest in drafting a TE and it worked. Browns took the bait, jumped ahead and grabbed a TE which allowed a quality pass rusher to land in our lap.
