Round 3 Pick Diontae Johnson

everyone would be ok with this pick if it was in the 5th round.....................right where he was projected to start getting drafted
he ws not bpa
he was not bpa at a position of need
our wr coach got a man crush on him.................

Might be the next Hines Ward. Who knows. Hope he has a friggin awesome career in PGH and surpasses the play of a WR whose name no longer needs to be typed on my computer..

everyone would be ok with this pick if it was in the 5th round you can't speak for everyone.....................right where he was projected to start getting drafted some had him going earlier
he ws not bpa- you don't know that for sure
he was not bpa at a position of need see above
our wr coach got a man crush on him................. and obviously you dislike everything they Steelers do
..........

In the middle of the night I woke up and Riddick Louis called this pick the sleeper of the draft. He said he is the best route runner in the draft. Yes, I re-wound the show to make certain I heard correctly.
I saw that too. Louis had been asked who was the standout team in the draft. His reply was the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Question: How many people on this board evaluate college football players for a living?

Let me know how all your interviews and pro days went....

I linked one showing he was projected to go in the 3rd.

So I did some digging on this kid and it turns out it Coach Tomlin who first discovered him and was very impressed. He then summoned our receivers coach Drake to do his due diligence and learn all he could. Drake came away extremely impressed as well.
Turns out the young man is from Ruskin Fla. where he played QB in high school. Kind of fell through the cracks and ended up at Toledo. Had a really productive sophomore season catching 74 balls for 1200 plus yards and 13 TDS. His QB left for the NFL and his junior season although not as productive with 49 catches, 700 plus yards and 8 TDS, he had to share targets with another receiver who was injured the previous season, and worked with two new QBs as well.
I liked the video on him and although not blazing speed, he has quick feet and explosive off his break getting good seperation.
I believe a 5.70 scouting rating projected as future NFL starter. I think we just need to be patient and see.
And yes, I saw projections as a third round selection as well.

Sammie Coates was a pretty good pick. Played nicely until he ****** up his hand
Sweed was a stud in college, and we just learned not too long ago he's got some brain issues. He also broke his wrist coming out of college. Then they discovered astigmatism in both of his eyes, then he ruptured his Achilles during mini camp which by all reports was his best look as a pro. He was projected to be the first or second WR taken in his draft until his injury made him slide

draftek had him at 336 overall
draft countdown 218
draftsite 211
cbs 237

those just happened to be the first 4 i checked. im sure there are plenty more that are similar but i bet you cant find too many that have him at 66
once again, im not mad at the player, just at the position he was taken.
johnson is going to become whatever he becomes regardless of what number he was taken at. if he is the next AB, he would be the next AB if taken in the 5th or 6th too

I recall that everyone here was pretty stoked about the pick of sweed.

He had great college stats with NFL HoFer Vince Young throwing to him.

Man, what a disappointment that became.

I just chose the first one i saw.

Oh we can question it. As I liked Butler too.

But aside from our likes this kid has quick feet and it showed in his return ability.

My concern is the level of competition jump.

There is some things to like, and some things to question.

I of course hope they hit gold.

Just remember that AB played in the MAC too...

Switzer is better than Eli and he is our No. 1 special teams guy. Unless Diontae can show some great stuff catching and in the return game, I don't see him getting past Switzer. He may get passed Eli because Eli does nothing on special teams. Still, his spot on the team is not a given and you would almost expect it to be from the No. 66 pick in any draft. I guess we shall see. I would have much rather had Boykin, Riley Ridley (still on the board), Hakeem Butler (still on the board), etc.

What was your opinion about Antonio Brown when he was selected regardless of his 6th round status?

Let's talk about these measurables.

5'10", 183, 30 3/4 arms and 9" hands

5'9", 166, 30 1/2 arms and 9" hands.

One guy is Dionte Johnson, the other is Marquis Brown. So, if the guy we drafted is bigger than Brown, is Brown Dri Archer too?

All I know is we needed depth at WR and this is where they decided to go. I don't get caught up in measurables so much because plenty of top rated players had them and were busts.

I can wait and see how it shakes out, he's going to surprise some of you. My good friends son has played at Toledo the last four years. He saw him every day and says the kid was the best football player he played there with. I reminded him Kareem Hunt was there with him too, he said he stood by his statement. In my old age I'm a lot more inclined to let the **** play out. Plenty of guys with all the measurables have taken a **** for us too.

Arians chose 2 WR in r3 as HC of the cards. Both were small school guys.

John brown. About the same size as dionte. Just got a nice contract.

Chad Williams. Not nearly as productive as brown.

Several people here consider Arians a better coach than Tomlin. Shouldn't you trust his judgment on this guy?

I invite everyone to listen to our WR coach

Again, he was going to be picked in the THIRD ROUND by Tampa (4 picks later) if we didn't take him.

Let that marinate...

**** yeah. Guy saw him play everyday. He breaks ankles once in the open field

For those crying about Johnson's speed, he ran a faster 40 than Antonio Brown. Did AB look slow to you on the field? All this kid does is make huge plays while running circles around defenders. Excited to have him on board.

Hey quit being rational. Can't you see there's complaining going on here? It's what Steelers fans do. ;)

This pick is growing on me as I watch his highlights and learn of the high interest level from other teams. He might not have been on a lot of people’s radar, but those are the same people that had DK Metcalf being a top-20 pick.

His change of direction ability and route running is elite IMO. He's going to be an ankle breaker in the NFL.

But only time will tell. I'm definitely warming up to this pick though.
