Round 3 Pick Diontae Johnson

His scouting report and physical traits read almost identical to Antonio Brown's, but Brown was an exception, as WRs with that size/speed ratio typically do not make much of an impact in the NFL.

The Steelers have earned the benefit of the doubt regarding WRs, but this is a questionable pick.

And.....too early is right. Why? SMH. I saw it coming. Sigh.

I will question the Steeler's ability to pick a receiver. I called Washington a boom or bust receiver last year, and he had a terrible year with no boom. I hope he turns it around, but I was not impressed with his hands or route running last year.

I will break down Johnson in a day or 2, but I would have preferred Boykin, who went to the Rats...

Diontae has great run after the catch ability, fluid and intuitive with the ball in his hands. #1 PR and KR guy, will rotate in with WR's. Steelers improved in two phases of the game, so imo there's a lot to like about this pick.

Sure there were bigger names on the board, seems the Steelers really wanted this kid and other teams were angling to pick him right around where we did.

Diontae Johnson WR, Toledo

Johnson is creating a real buzz. He visited nine teams and worked out privately for eight since the Scouting Combine in February. The 5-foot-11, 183-pound Johnson is a versatile, athletic, elusive receiver with outstanding quickness to beat press coverage as well as good transitional skills necessary to run after the catch. He’s an ankle-breaker in the open field. The receiver doesn’t have blazing speed (4.5/40) but sometimes that pure speed can’t catch up to game speed. Johnson will likely see a spike in his draft day stock due to his big-play ability and in the return game, which adds to his value.

With his incredible knack for creating touchdowns on deep balls and weaving through defenders like traffic cones on special teams, his play style is very reminiscent of the Buccaneers’ DeSean Jackson and the Seahawks’ Tyler Lockett.

This pick made me almost vomit. There was so much talent left on the board. This dude wasn't anywhere near even the top 10 WR's left on the board (unless you're looking for small, slow guys with lapses in concentration). Then, I read how horrible he was at the combine and that he comes from a small school. WTF!!!!!!!! This pick grade is an absolute F. I can't even see him making the roster. Maybe the practice squad but that's it. I'll take Rogers and Switzer over him any day. Bizarre pick at No. 66.

Well here is the funny part. Switzer was your try hard rally around guy. So where is he if you keep this guy? They are both undersized special teams guys who will play receiver. I guess Ryan is out.

Oh we can question it. As I liked Butler too.

But aside from our likes this kid has quick feet and it showed in his return ability.

My concern is the level of competition jump.

There is some things to like, and some things to question.

I of course hope they hit gold.

Three receivers left, two entered. There is still room for Switz.

In the middle of the night I woke up and Riddick Louis called this pick the sleeper of the draft. He said he is the best route runner in the draft. Yes, I re-wound the show to make certain I heard correctly.

I did not hate the pick.

I know a lot of people will hate it but he does have elite body control (and I do mean ELITE), gets a lot of 50/50 balls for his size, and he can make cuts at max speed and while accelerating. That generally translates pretty well and I believe that is what the Steelers look for.

Also, if he ran in the low 4.4, we would not have had a shot at him. I would LOVE to see AB decline and Johnson turn into an AB clone in his prime.

We can always double down on WR too. Nothing says they can't. **** they have 6 picks left !

Switzer is better than Eli and he is our No. 1 special teams guy. Unless Diontae can show some great stuff catching and in the return game, I don't see him getting past Switzer. He may get passed Eli because Eli does nothing on special teams. Still, his spot on the team is not a given and you would almost expect it to be from the No. 66 pick in any draft. I guess we shall see. I would have much rather had Boykin, Riley Ridley (still on the board), Hakeem Butler (still on the board), etc.

When they picked AB they double downed at the position, it is what I am hoping for.I can see Diontae getting past Switz, his special teams play in college was special.

I like it. I was hesitant at first but everything I’ve been reading had him flying up boards. I was watching some film on his last night. He does have a game similar to Antonio brown but more refined coming out. The issue I saw mostly was the questionable QB play. His releases and seperation immediately off the line sticks out. Of course he has room to grow, but he landed with the right team for that.

I like Switz, hard working kid, easy to root for. Problem is, he covers little ground on returns - high RPM, spins his wheels - yet seems to be running in place.

I kept hoping he’d break some longer runs, never happened. By season’s end our return game overall was below average and left a lot to be desired. So I see D. Johnson bringing serious juice to the position and that’s a good thing.

Wow some of you amaze me. Just because you in all your in depth scouting and research don’t know him he must suck and is too small. I will say I have read and seen enough at this point to trust their call. 5’11” is not a midget. Some people really need to lighten up.

when it was our turn to draft, I told my wife that I cant believe Winovich fell to us. thought it was a no brainer. and when we passed on him, I just knew he was going to the Pats. Hear is to me being wrong about ho good a pro he will be.

I pretty much have come to the conclusion that when it comes to football I don't know **** other than.............FIRST DOWN!!!

Ben has been begging for a big tall receiver for years. If you are going to draft a guy that only has 4.53 speed make sure he's over 6'3".

I think you are getting too caught up on his 40 time. He plays faster.
