Roethlisberger, the exact oppoiste of Bell when it comes to contracts.

So you dump two of your top offensive weapons in one offseason? The Steelers apparently value Bell at one more year and then receive a third-round compensatory pick for him rather than trade him for a higher choice this year. Also, given how some feel about our first-round pick, do you feel confident they would have hit a homerun with that potential high pick for Bell?

No, I dump a player who's a pain and won't sign, for 14 million or whatever the franchise amount is. Then I could update the defense with good free agents at the right age ( ILB say Bowman or Foster ) and can pretty much buy the super bowl winning backfield if needed with money to spare. The Steelers would be much better off.

I tend to think we could get a better deal than the Dolphins, which includes draft picks. IF the Browns pay 17 million for a slot receiver and offer their 4th ad 7th, Bell fetches more, I think as he's cheaper and better than Landry,

As for who we could have drafted at running back, we can compare their average per rush and pass vs Bell and weigh in the cap value to see who's worth it. Pittsburgh is one of the easiest places to shine for running backs. We've got a great line, great skill players and Ben. Lots of room to run and other priorities to key on.

If Bell walks, we will get a comp pick, but it depends on what we spend in free agency. Don't bank on a 3rd round pick comp pick, unless we add next to zero in free agency.

Someone who understands the cap better might know for sure but I thought you could carry cap space over. If the Steelers yank the tag that’s 17 million they could stash for next year or use some to extend a few guys. Would be a risky move putting the backfield in the hands of second year Connor and 5th round rookie Samuels but I honestly wouldn’t blame the Steelers if they did.

Would that risk be equal to, less than or more in comparison to that much money in one player with an injury history. Add that to missing TC and getting in game shape on the field of play which increases his chances of injury. The STEELERS organization are aware of all these obstacles and thus not bending on offer, a VERY generous one at that. None of us have the answers that guarantee outcome for a perfect world but that's part of the attraction to being a fan.

Yes, all unused cap money from this year is added on to next year's cap.

I just want them to win a championship soon. I know for all of the healthy offensive talent this team had last year going into the playoffs....it meant jack **** because it wasn't a complete team on both sides of the ball. That's the bottom line. The defense needs a super star or two. I hope camp sorts out who they really have at RB and can plan accordingly not only for this season, but the future as well.

I wonder if current players think long term enough to see past the end of their career. If you are a star and can stay in the same city throughout your career, think of all the businesses you could open and keep a steady stream of revenue coming in until the day you die (and then afterwards). Ex: Roethlisberger Chevrolet, Roethlisberger's BBQ, Roethlisberger Shoe Store, etc etc.

I don't know that I would care if I had a steady revenue stream coming in after making 10-20 million a year. Anyone that makes that kinda dough for several years and has to even think about doing something to make money post football must have pissed it all away.

Heck I could go a LONG time on what Ben makes in a single month, but I am a pretty simple person that lives within his means.
