Roethlisberger, the exact oppoiste of Bell when it comes to contracts.

We can agree to disagree. Your second paragraph, though is what I do agree with. Haley should have been tarred and feathered on the Clemente Bridge.
Haley didn't ban the QB sneak, that's all Tomlin. That was a horrible call on 4th down, the fact Tomlin takes no responsibility is a joke. Running wide on 4th and inches to the short side of the field if I remember correctly is idiotic.

... He (Ben) has made his millions and wants another ring. Bell wants paid and is still young. Different story lines and I get both mindsets. They need to get that 7th ring!

SteelCity, not directed at you, but the "Ben has made his millions, along with the Bell want paid" comments together is amusing. At the end of this year, Bell would have made $30.5 million from the Steelers, while being suspended twice, and completing 16 games one time.

Yes, TOO SLOW. Bell hits very few big plays and seldom has the speed to beat a linebacker or end to the corner. Its true. While that pitch play was a Haley/Tomlin folly, Bell could not get a yard up the middle either.

I've have to check the film, but a two TE set or a FB on the field would be best. As we know Haley banned the QB sneak, and Ben was something like 13 of his last 14 on this play for getting that yard.

I would NOT say that he is too slow, but I totally agree that he almost never takes it to the house. For all his great attributes, he is not a home run threat to take it to the house (ala Willie Parker). Now, on this play, his speed had nothing to do with it. The play call was just a total **** call.

Hey, look at that instance, not his total yards. He's a failure...

LOLZ

Also if Bell went to the Pats, that O would decimate the league.

Yea, true, but Ben was suspended, too. That's nor here or there. Ben has signed his large contracts and Bell has yet to sign one. After signing this year's tag, he will have some nice chunk of change in his bank, but he wants more, a lot more. It will be elsewhere, though, next year.

Just caught up on this thread. So, about the "race issue" in the contract negotiations.
.
.
There is none. The Steelers organization is anything but racist. Never have been.
Bell's contract situation comes down to what he perceives as his value on the open market vs what the Steelers are willing to pay him. The two can't find a way to meet as Bell believes he's worth enough to reset the RB market and while the Steelers may agree (13.5 M on the table), they don't believe it as much as Bell himself does (14.5 M or bust).
Impasse ...
Personally, I'd run the ******* wheels off Bell this year and let James C and the new kid take over next year.

I agree! That’s the last thing the Rooney family can ever be accused of, racism! Preposterous!

Would anyone actually think the Rooney’s say now let’s pay Ben because he’s white but not Bell he’s black. That’s ******* moronic. As we all know this is a billion dollar big business and it’s about a players ability and not his color. Geez!

I’m kind of mixed on what to do with LevBell after he signs his franchise tag. I hear ya on running the wheels off which benefits us for 2018 but also torn between trying to trade him after he signs franchise.

If we could get a second round pick I’d say do it. Then go with Samuels and Connor in 2018.

A 2nd? I was thinking about a trade with the Browns for like maybe..,..two 1st round picks.

Even more preposterous is that they offered him $14.5 million a year in a contract. Racists are notorious for over paying players they under value as human beings. If they had offered him, say, $6 million a year, you could maybe make a weak argument for racism.

Yes the market for QBs..

And i already know where you are going.. and yes Bell is trying to reset the RB market. Which is why he hasnt signed. Not sure why people feel he has to settle for what the market is. If he feels he can reset it who is he hurting if he cant..nobody but himself.

You don't think he is hurting his team just a little bit by showing up so late?

Does anybody think it will snow tomorrow ?????

damn right he is

As the offense will not be as sharp, if they full throttle him into the lineup game 1.

Even if he was in sweats, I wish he was in camp. Building team chemistry is huge! Taking four games to get into football shape and to learn a new offense is almost a waste of a 1/4 of the season. See Chicago **** Show from last year. Maybe, they would have had home field through all the PO if they didn't look like *** in that game. Just a pet peeve of this situation. Bell is not 100% to blame, but he had a hand in it.

Why does he have to??

He doesn't have to. But if he is committed to making the Steelers a winner (which also means keeping a great roster intact), then he would have taken other offers he's had in the past

But he's more committed to fattening his own pockets than he is to making sure the Steelers win Super Bowls. And that's fine, there is no rule that says you need to put team success over your bank account, but when that happens, we can compare him unfavorably to guys who do have that mentality. And we can prioritize our fandom of the Steelers over fandom of a player, and choose to be turned off by his approach for that reason, even if we understand why he does it

Well the Dolphins did something like that with the Browns for their slot receiver, Jarvis Ladry. It freed up 15.982 million a year for the cap!

The Browns are sending a fourth-rounder in 2018 -- No. 123 overall -- and*a seventh-rounder*in 2019 to Miami for the slot receiver, who recently signed his one-year, $15.982 million franchise tender.

Are you or anyone here telling me we could not have done something similar with Bell? Let him sign, then trade him, picking up at least the same in draft picks and using his money to rebuild the defense?!

Just a hunch, one of the other 31 teams would have offered us more than the Browns did for Landry.

I'm hoping our other guys show something in preseason and one of them gets the start week 1 or so....until Bell it up to it physically and mentally....per the OC and all.

The thing is Tomlin would for the most part not run him to much in the preseason games. I guess there is always that chance of him getting hurt.

Nice post. He won't get it though.

I know you know this but the injury thing can't be used as an excuse AND there is no chance of any of the other pro bowler's / starters (who are there) getting hurt????? Bell is selfish and his line of thinking definitely doesn't show team support.

So you dump two of your top offensive weapons in one offseason? The Steelers apparently value Bell at one more year and then receive a third-round compensatory pick for him rather than trade him for a higher choice this year. Also, given how some feel about our first-round pick, do you feel confident they would have hit a homerun with that potential high pick for Bell?

If they would/could have done what Coach is saying I would not have opposed it. The thing is I think our FO actually thought they still could sign Bell long term. So the approach they took was the right one in my opinion. .....only thing is Bell from week to week didn't even know himself what he wanted($$$$).

I have to laugh at the people who are saying Bell wants his money. Ben got his. Heyward, Tuit, AB...etc. Bell will have gotten paid over $27 mill after this season just from the 2 franchise tags. Yep.....Bell has been so deprived of getting himself his.

But according to Antdrewjosh, Tomlin does nothing wrong, it's all the players' fault. Except Bell, he's also perfect. Actually, it's all Ben's fault!

Exactly! And he also doesn't have to whine like a little ***** when people call him out on it, but he exercises that right as well.
