Our country is a Republic, not a democracy.
Democracy is two wolves and one sheep deciding what they'll be having for dinner.
As previously pointed out, our founding fathers foresaw this issue where one particular city/state would have a far greater population than another. So they gave each state power in the election of the president based on their population. It's actually quite genius.
As far as your "Dems have had 5 elections stolen from them", I implore you to listen to ALL of the liberal media in the 30 days leading up to the elections of George W. and Trump. They repeatedly predict and paint the picture of the Democratic nominee winning the electoral college and losing the popular vote and saying, "that's how our country is set up and that's how they run their campaign to win the electoral college, not the popular vote. The Democratic nominee is playing it smart, etc...."
Then when it goes south on them, and their strategy backfires because they just go after the heavy coastal states and completely ignore middle America, they whine about the unfair system.
If we went to a popular vote, 8 states ( California, Texas, Florida, New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Georgia ) would decide the election EVERY time. The other 42 states would be irrelevant. Doesn't the so called party of tolerance, inclusion, and democracy see this as a bad thing if people in the majority of states are completely ignored by both parties as they would focus on only those 8 states every election cycle and only cater to and listen to the needs of the people in those 8 only?
Our founding fathers were wise beyond their years.

In order to win elections they would have to appeal to those deplorable people who ride quads in the mud and shoot guns for fun. I don't think the Democrat Party is capable of that any more.
