Le’Veon Bell: Will He? Won’t He? Who Cares??

Ok I read an article about the transition tag. I have to say I really don't understand the purpose of that. The guy will never play another down in a Steelers uniform. What is the purpose of having the ability to match. They won't match and they don't get compensation. I just don't understand that concept.

Maybe you match and trade to someone for something, still doesn’t have to play again.

Or the contrary can happen Ike. The NFL owners are tight. They see what Bell did to a family organization that runs on trust and honesty. For Bell to behave the way he did on social media, and flaunting the system agreed upon by the owners and players, Free Agency may be a well that just ran dry for Bell. He's not Gurley. Not by a mile, so the league owners may come together and lower his value. This is why a transition tag may be interesting. If the Steelers Trans tag him, and the best offer is $10-12M/season, they **** Bell's agent. He will never have another high profile client again. And trust me, the league hates his agent.

Yeah Cope I know most of the owners are tight, well except for Snyder and Davis. But what you are suggesting, would that be toeing the line on collusion?

The ability to match is possible incentive for the other team to give us something in return for us not matching their offer or signing him and trading him to them.

Like that has never happened in the NFL...

And the league would be more into making an example of Bell's agent, he'll just be the unfortunate victim here. Also, this agent ****** himself with the Steelers. They will never make a player friendly deal with this agent in the future, so now he can only work with 31 teams. Out of that 31 teams, half will be supporting the Rooneys. It's really a terrible move for this agency, and the agent was too dumb to factor that. What owner wants to deal with an agent that plays the race card?

It's made to keep talent. Some instances, you have a player and aren't sure of his market value. They're not a franchise caliber player, but they are still a good player. You allow your player to be a pseudo free agent, but have the ability to retain them.

In Bell's situation, I believe if he is Transition tagged, the FA value just won't be there. Honestly, after this past season, I don't see how any team would want to pay him over the $10-12M range. Not only is he a suspension risk for banned substances, he's a flight risk 2 years into a contract.

Yeah..I too would like to see the results of that but to a point.... I saw your family reference and it struck a memory. Used to be a family organization but nowadays, not so much. The Rooney's still rule the roost but the team technically is run as a $500M/yr business. Decisions are made in large by an ownership committee.

Not exactly like the old days of the north side family business but not a publicly traded company either. But to your point, a storied family history nontheless.

While on the subject of memories, there are some I'm happy to forgit.

Totaled my moms brand new '78 LeBaron just about to enter those "tubes" a hundred yards forward of that picture Chip. Still love driving through them though. I need a burgh trip soon.

Burning **** that you already bought and paid for is ******* stupid.

I normally agree, but in this case there is a betrayal and twitter troll. Bell also lied to fans about his failed drug test.

Mark Madden used to talk about a locker room cancer among the team. I always was under the inclination that it was Brown. However; with absence of Bell and the current chemistry of the team; the arrow (at least in my observation) points to Bell being the problem all along.

What point does burning a jersey do? The NFL made their money off of the sale of the jersey, revenue sharing was already generated, and if you think Bell gives a flying **** whether you burn a jersey then I have ocean front property in Iowa to sell you. Why not donate the jersey to Goodwill or Amvets instead.

He called AB and Bell the toxic twins.
Also Madden said that Bells injury in that AFCCG was minor, per inside source.

Ben said he texted Bell earlier yesterday checking on him and wishing him good luck if he didn't report, Bell never responded.

Jim trotter at nfl.com lets us know why we are, really, angry....

What's interesting is how some fans have turned on Bell. I've always found it fascinating how the public is quick to side with owners and teams when it comes to a negotiation involving players. Why is that? Stripped down, I believe they feel players should be grateful for being paid so much money to play a kids' game. I also believe there's a racial component; African-Americans comprise roughly 70 percent of the players, and there is a segment of the population that views them as highly paid field hands who don't deserve what they're getting.

That's so ******* dumb, I was wondering how long before the race card got thrown out there, if Ben did the same thing, he'd be getting the same treatment Bell is.
It doesn't matter what the race, fans side against the players because they are playing a game alot of fans grew up playing, and now he turns away from the money he was offered and wants more. Alot of fans bust their ***** every week at their job to just get by, and this guy turns down a deal that makes him by far the highest aid RB

He didn't mention about the lies, lack of communication and total regard to the owner, players and the fans of the large amount he left behind. From a business decision, it's hard for a normal 8-5er to relate. Fans take it personal when they feel one of their own are not "all in" to their TEAM. Mark Madden makes a good point that he roots for the logo and not one particular player. When you turn your back on the logo or colors, it's natural for the fans to turn their backs of that player. Bell is now the poster boy for Enemy #1. Deebo was last year, as fans felt he did the unthinkable to go to NE.

Yep, us white people hate the black players, I mean I never see white fans at Steelers games wearing ABs Jersey, or Ward, or Bettis, or Lloyd, or Blount, Pouncey, Bell etc, nope never see it.👀

"Bottom line, ask yourself this: If your employer was offering you a $100,000 contract for 2019, but another company was offering $1 million if you sat out of the workforce until 2020, what would you do? It really isn't more complicated than that."

Woof. For a writer employing such a generally lazy thought process throughout, he really has missed the low hanging fruit. It's not interesting in the slightest that fans have turned on him. People are fans of the team, and Bell has been misleading with them throughout this process, at best. A lot more people (including teammates) would be on his side if he'd have just stated his intentions from the jump. It really isn't more complicated than that.

Little different than this scenario. He could have that money this year and still cash in next year....
