Just pull a Burress and shot yourself now
Its very risky to extend RB's at that kind of money in todays NFL....any running back..
If the Steelers believe this kid is the type of person that could be a "Steeler for Life" and acclimate as a honorary "yinzer" when he is "old and gray", or a future Hall of Famer, they would probably try to extend him, but not at a 15mil a year clip..
Hopefully his music makes him money so he won't need as much from a contract.
It's not a cavalier attitude towards talent. It's reality. Only so much to go around. I'm not trying to tie up 15 million there. That's just me.
12- 13 and he would be worth every penny.. As long as he isn't taken out by the bengals this guy plays all 16 and puts up crazy numbers in this offense.. The salary cap is still going up. We can afford it

That's the whole thing. Salary cap. You have to pick and choose where you're going to spend your money. $15 mill for an oft-injured running back in a passing league? No thanks.
I get that.
Let's say it is $15 mill, for the sake of argument. What do you do with it if you don't sign Bell. Spread it around? Fine, but if you spread it around to 3-4 players, they may be good players, but they won't be special players. Special players earn special money.
Now, let's say you spend that 15 on a special player at another position. What position? Corner maybe? You'd throw 15 mill on a position that is constantly hamstrung by the rules? You ain't getting a top QB for 15.

I look at it more from the angle of if you sign Bell for $15 mill then who are you going to let go?

I see that point too.
However, outside of Ben, Brown and I feel Bell, who on the team is irreplaceable? Harrison in his prime, but not now. Pouncey? Hell, half of the people on here didn't want to pay him the money. Maybe Heyward. Maybe Tuitt will be.
I think you can massage the cap enough to pay him right now, anyway. Worry about down the road then. Time with a franchise QB is limited.
Just saying, if we have three or four guys who are taking up over half the salary cap such that we have to sign scrubs everywhere else, then we're the Ravens.
