Le’Veon Bell don't you worry about his FOCUS.

Seems like it should be fairly easy math to reach numbers on a deal. 1m this year plus 13m franchise tag plus 16M franchise tag=3/30(all figures rounded). Last two years we'll say he's beginning to end his prime and they'll go @11m a piece. So 5/52 with a 23m signing bonus(split over 2 years @15/8) and 1m in salary this year.

Figures of

2016-1m salary, 3m proration, 330k carry over prorated-Hit is 4.3m
2017- 8m roster bonus(which will end up being converted), 5m salary-Cap hit is 10m
2018 salary is 7million, hit of 12m
2019 salary is 8m, hit of 13m
2020 salary is 8m, hit of 13m(unlikely he ever sees this amount)

Total:29m in base salaries. Bonus amounts of 23m.

Total cash-
2016-16m
2017-13m
2018-7m(first 3 years are 36m)
2018 8m
2018 8m

I feel like that's a reasonable deal for all parties involved.

Can we pay AB, Ben, Heyward, Tuitt, Shazier, DD, etc. and pay Bell $15 mill? I doubt it. I think he is gonna be allowed to walk. And the shame is a good part of two seasons was wasted on him being seriously injured, so we didn't even get to enjoy production at this cheap price. By the time he is ready to produce for entire seasons, he will be out of Pgh.

We've already discussed this in the rap song thread.

My worries here are numerous.

1 ) Will Bell try to impress or take unnecessary risks now that he thinks he's a rap music baller? When the season is on, is he thinking I want to do this for song XYZ, or is his mind on the film of the opposing defensive unit?

2 ) 15 million a year? LOL, stay healthy and clean for a season and realize you're a running back who was easily replaced last year.

3 ) How many of these rappers can pass an NFL drug test?

We should just franchise him two years in a row and let him go. That gets us through 2016-2017-2018.

Push all the other long term contracts out with the credit card spending idea. His cap hits will be huge, but you won't be tied to a washed up 28-29 year old running back in 2019 either. And no dead money.

Bell has to be willing to accept the franchise tag. At this point in time, no promises should be made. If he's healthy and clean at the end of 2016, then offer a non- exclusive rights tag for roughly ( $11,000,000 ) for 2017. This allows a team to take Bell, but if they do it costs two first rounds picks.

We could take two first round picks, plus spend the $11,000.000 elsewhere. The Steelers would be fools to give Bell a new long term deal.

A player given an "exclusive" tag, which is worth slightly more, cannot negotiate with other teams. A player given the "non-exclusive" tag can deal with outside clubs, but if he's allowed to sign with a new team, his previous club is compensated with two first-round draft picks.

Oh man, this is a brutal post. First of all, Bell doesn't really have a choice about "accepting" the franchise tag --- he's not going to hold out and miss game checks. Missing one week of the regular season would cost him almost $650,000 (using your $11 million figure and NFL players get 17 paychecks). If Bell gets tagged, he will show up and play for whatever amount comes with the tag whether it's $10, $11 or $12 million. Second, no team is going to give up 2 first round picks for the pleasure of paying huge bucks to a RB. It just won't happen. 0.0% chance. So even raising that as a possibility is just "I-play-Madden-so-I-think-I-know-what-I'm-talking-about" stupid.

Some of us don't like the rap song thread
So we don't know
Didn't know focus meant I want 15 mill a year

IMO, you look at which RBs are going to be available in the draft next year or the following year. We only have Ben for what 4-5 more quality seasons? I don't think we want to see Ben handing off to Amos Zeroeue type RBs in the twilight of his career chasing that last Lombardi before he retires. A good run game helps loosen the pass game. Bell would need to have it explained to him that if we tag his *** for two years, he may get $24-25 mil in those two years, but he'll also be a FA at just about the time when RBs tend to break down - and he has an injury history whether freak injuries or not. A 4-5 year deal at $30-35 mil total would be more ideal as he'd get more money overall. Maybe even $37-42 mil for 4-5 years. That's team and player friendly, as we still maintain room with the cap, he gets his cheese and very well could enter FA again down the line. At which point he'd likely need to take a pay cut considering his age and position.

**** you, your opinion sucks,

I should ban you for not respecting my authority.

15 million a year... so a million more than AP and almost twice as much as shady. I don't know what he be smoking but must be some good ****!

It doesn't help his cause that when he was out of the line up, the offense didn't miss a beat. As a matter of fact, I think it actually got more productive.

Good post. Everything spot on.

Bad post....

It seems like every year there are a bunch of decent FA RB's that come available by either being cut or their contracts run out. There also is the draft. A combination of the 2 is where I see us headed if Bell is even remotely sticking to his $15 mill. I will state again that I wouldn't give him $10 mill a season. Just to many injuries at this point in his career(To his knees). Then factor in his first strike in the drug policy.

Walter Abercrombie was a much better singer. As a running back, not so much.

Make him a fair offer but if someone else offers more then let him go.
You can't keep em all and running back is way more risky than receiver. Might use the tag as leverage for a trade or whatever.

Bell also said on twitter he would never leave the Steelers.

Oh. Well what is everyone worried for then.

he has to have the type of year he did 2 years ago you tag him and work out a long term deal, before camp we need Decastro Timmons extended and then next summer you ask heyward ben gilbert mitchell to take pay cuts so you can sign bell 4 years and lock up AB

If I were the FO I'd only extend Timmons if he takes a serious paycut, he's getting long in the tooth and we just invested a 1st rounder on ILB

We don't get pay cuts from players. Well not since the Bus that I can remember anyways.
