Keith Butler hot seat?

Got Seat?

Is that an ad for chairs??

i think it means hot seat
i can change it as a moderator, but we know Butler's defense has no balls so maybe the OP is questioning if it's just all ***?

Nah, I just thought it was funny from a branding perspective...

If Butler wasn't fired after Tomlin supposedly took over defensive play calling half way thru the year last year, he is not going to be fired now. My question remains, if Butler was bad enough that Tomlin felt the need to take over defensive play calling then why on God's green earth would you bring him back as a DC again this year? It makes NO sense what so ever. Unless Tomlin is using him as a scape goat to prolong his own career it makes no sense why you would bring back a DC that you took over game calling from. Seems to me that half our coaching staff are here because they are nice guys, friends of the family, or some other reason besides being great coaches. We keep plugging square pegs into round holes and listening to players talk about "miscommunication." If Watt ran 50 yards down field on his own covering a TE and that was miscommunication, what ******* language is the play book in?

SteelerPride, you nailed it. We have an idiot as a head coach and your examples show exactly why we are in the position we are. Letting the jags destroy us last yea r in the playoffs and the Chiefs do the exact same thing shows how dumb the duo of tomin and Butler are, way in over their little stupid heads.

So when do other teams get credit for playing well? Yeah, the defense blew chunks yesterday, but the Chiefs played pretty damn good as well.

The Chiefs played real well and are stacked with talent on offense. However, when you have guys running wide open and defenders clueless where they should be, that is poor play. There was one play when Watt was matched up against Watkins on a deep route. The safety help was nowhere to be found. Thankfully the ball was overthrown or it was an easy touchdown.

we need a guy like rex who will run multiple formations and hold players accountable. butler and peezy need to go

This is one of the problems i have with coaching. You have Watt covering a WR downfield. First of all Watt is probably our best pass rusher so you lose that. Second he is no match for a speedy WR. You are making watt useless while providing the other team with a huge mismatch. Maybe the safety screwed up, but the steelers do this stuff all the time. Of course the whole 2 DL scheme as well

Our miscues certainly helped them, I'm not denying that one bit.

I believe it was Hilton who said the defense spotted KC 21 free points off of blown coverages. Also a player last week(I forget who) stated that they have a very complex defensive system. I though they dumbed it down so the young guys could start playing a few years ago. Our defense has looked completely lost out there at times.

If any part of the system involves having a LB chase down Kelce or Gronk, your system is a train wreck. If it was a miscommunication of biblical proportions, then what language is the play book written in?

If our defense is so ******* complicated how come 3 / 5 / 7 year veterans are lost??????? MORE reason to fire the "D" staff and bring in someone who can communicate their "D" to the players or are our players just that ******* dumb. I don't buy the complicated bull **** but I do BUY the piss poor coaching part.

PS. The entire defensive coaching staff should be on the HOTTEST seat in the stadium and feel grateful for NOT being fired this morning.

BUTLER / PEEZy / tomlin all should go.
\

But to be fair, Tomlin's team always start slow so maybe they can pull this out of their *** and actually make the "D" better with another game or two. 4 games in and with they got it or it will be a long season.

They switched defensive schemes to a college style defense first made popular at Utah state that was devised to defend the wacky spread offenses of the mountain conference. It’s a phony defense that is a hybrid 3-4 4-3. You pull the nose guard put in a nickel back and move the ends in to tackle positions. The colleges get away with fast outside linebacker/rushends because they are fast enough to get around the corner and run down the qbs. Problem in pros the defensive ends playing as tackles get mauled. The rushends get mauls by the offensive tackles. The outside zone blocking scheme gets fullbacks tight ends out on the multiple dbs opening the running game up. The inside zone blockers double teams the smallish defensive ends playing as tackles and linebackers playing as defensive ends opening gapping holes in the defense. A coach job is to put players in position to make plays... the irony of Tomlin-butlers “hybrid” defense is ithey are putting players in a position to be overwhelmed and to not make plays. Heywood, tuitt, watt, Dupree in a defense like Seattle’s or Jacksonville’s would be a position to make plays.... it falls on Tomlin- butlers that Heywood didn’t make pro bowl last year... they didn’t put him position to make plays and it’s on them that this defense sucks. Butler should be fired there is nothing he can do at this point to make this defense better. Fire him put Mitchell in his place and go back to a cowher 3-4 or they could promote Tom Bradley his 4-4 defense at penn state was the basis for Seattle’s defense. Anything would be better than this steaming pile we call a defense right now.

I am not sure what is truly wrong with our D. But, we should never only have 2 D-linemen in the game and we should never see Watt or other LB's trying to cover a WR down the field. That **** is ridiculous. The D needs to go back to being more simple and straight forward because what they've been doing for several years now hasn't worked and all we keep hearing is it's communication issues. I call bullshit!

Have the D-line (assuming 3 in the game) and one LB rush the passer on most downs. Sure, you can send an extra guy here and there but always have 4 rushers. The other LB's in the game cover the middle of the field and the CB's and S's cover the receivers heading down field. If it is truly communication issues and our players are too stupid to figure it out, make it simpler. Go back to the basics.

Watt is probably our best pass rusher yet he is dropping into coverage way too often and even tasked with covering WR's. In what universe does that make any sense.

Good points, but Cam made the pro bowl last year.

I honestly wonder if other teams have scouted enough to know what alignments will cause Watt to drop into coverage instead of rushing, and they do that.

Either way, this is the same D scheme run here since 1703, and other teams have figured out its weaknesses. Time for a change.

Not true, Lebeau didn't run a Tampa 2, this defense has looked alot like that the past few years.

We never ran the 2DL formation under LeBeau and we had someone blitzing on damn near every play. We did not start playing this soft zone, drop 9 into coverage, Tampa-2 crap until LeBeau was gone and Tomlin took over the defense.
