Keep or Cut: Mark Barron

but the cap is the problem....he may well be a cut to keep bud. i guess it all dependson the cba and how much the cap goes up

I offer if they cut Barron to keep Bud they are doing a ****** job at managing the cap. because usually the ones cut are more in line with dead weight.

I don't see Barron following under that train of thought.

What better player would get cut?

The only ones mentioned was McDonald which Cope I think it was that showed the advantage there is minimal. and Foster and Chick which have strong arguments for being let go.

Not cut, the ability to sign a better player (Bud, Hilton, any of the other veteran extensions, etc.)

no it didn't. but apparently your opinion spewed beyond reality.

And no not the same assignments. cover 1,2,3,4,dime,nickle.

If they lined up at the same spot I am sure it was minimal.

Film I saw showed improvement as the year progressed...

Obviously, Edmunds doesn’t line up in the box all the time but when he did he just played great. Barron improved as the season went on but when you are just garbage to begin with that’s not saying much.

We can get a veteran for much less than what we are paying Barron but I would rather roll with Bush, Grant, Williams, and draft pick. Cheaper and likely better. Can’t be worse.

Hilton is a better player? Not sure about that. I am thinking Barron is better in coverage.

Not cutting a player shouldn't road block an extension. Extensions free up money.

They should be able to extend enough to retain Barron anyways as the CBA looks to be days away from a signing...

Really? think about the scrub(s) before him.

What vet can you get that is an upgrade for the same or less money?

I will hang up and listen.

Just don't know what games you were watching that he was garbage.

Kevin Minter, Joe Thoms or Will Compton come to mind.

Maybe Deone Buchanon but that’s because he fits with what the Steelers are doing. Hasn’t performed that well as of late but he’s young still.

Minter huh 82 combined tackles for Barron is greater than his last three year total. Man that sure looks attractive.

Ditto Joe Thomas and Compton.

Three years of mediocre tackles but these are your options?

damn

So now you want a guy that hasn't performed well in your eyes as a replacement.

C'mon man.............

We want to talk about garbage let us look at Bostic and Burnett and perhaps getting rid of Barron isn't the smartest move in comparison.

Will Compton 1.25 mill PFF 64.1 grade

Mark Barron 6 mill PFF 57.4 grade.

He’s worse and more expensive. Bam.

Barron had a rough start and was kinda miscast at the beginning of the season. His play improved substantially as the season went on.

I mentioned that Vance's value is better than any return we'd get for the same amount of money, so you sign him, or better yet, sign a new contract that drops his cap hit.

Hilton is also much more of a playmaker than Barron, plus he's the starting sub package slot CB. Barron, this year, is a backup. Bush will take his snaps. You could bring him on the field if you went to 4ILB in a big nickel, but he can be replaced just as easily with a safety or Sutton, who cover better than he does.

Hilton has known to be suspect in coverage, really Cope that is a hard comparison.

And assuming Barron will be a backup without knowing Bush's learning curve, or knowing Williams lack of coverage capability makes me think they would continue to be rotational.

I can agree Hilton is a close area playmaker, but we know they both bring different skillets in our D and were used for different reasons.

Hilton isn't going to wakeup and all of a sudden a coverage corner.

Nor is anyone behind Barron going to jump up and take his job.

If someone could come in and upgrade Barron I wouldn't blink, but that is a high improbability on a team that everyone is preaching saving money.

You can't say save money and then think the team will be able to upgrade the position.

Nor should he need to be cut now that the CBA is in place.

I just don't see the reasoning in getting rid of someone who isn't dead weight, just because we view him as a backup?

Not so sure the Steelers view him as anything less than a rotational player who they can throw him into coverage and breathe easily. Thinking back to Jon Bostic which made us all breathe heavily.

When the Op was made there was no cba agreement in place so it was a very valid question to ask.

Given the news we will be able to keep all the guys they feel are contributors

Barron is a rotational player. I would be willing to put up with his level of suck as long as he is reasonably cap friendly for one year only. Then. That's it.

ask to take pay cut if cant to a stasfactionary number you cut and in dime sets its bush and gilbert for coverage, we can still add a versatile mlb/olb and cut as then you have gilbert replacing big red on ST and a hybrid LB/S like hudson Muse replacing barron on passing downs.
