Is the Steelers Front Office aware FA started?

you know what I meant, if you didn't this is what I mean:

**** the cheaters, they are not a model to follow, **** them with a red hot tyre iron
I'm ******* tired of listening to what the cheaters did and how great they are, they aren't great, they are proven cheaters and if you admire them then maybe you support their cheating ways too

Harrumph!

I agree with you to a certain extent. Obviously, we all expected them to be players with Ben's window, and the fact that we had a little more cap room to play with. However, every team in the NFL had more cap room this offseason, allowing for mediocre players getting superstar money. Also, we all feel there may be a down time when Ben does retire, but it's not like the Steelers are going to end their existence when Ben retires. For the Steelers to become "maddenesque" because of Ben's window would be silly. We simply don't know what will happen between now and when Ben retires.

VERY TRUE, selling the out because BEN is retiring is not the way to go. Realize that his window is closing but THERE is football after Ben R.. The rest of the team is pretty good and with all pro-world AB & Bell & cCo. Anything can happen. The core players can make average look good. Take our current coaching staff and all their woe's and see where we still finish, AFCCG.

You can also win and not cheat.

You can but NOT at the CHEATRIOTS rate when the entire rest of the NFL is on parity course. Don't even emply that the cheaters are not cheating and winning at the rate they are.

They should have gotten aggressive and ponied up on one of those two CB's. Signed Timmons for two years and not let him leave. Restructured some contracts. Pull out the stops for Ben's last couple years. Two years max for Ben. He won't play this contract out.
Then we'll see how good Cool Shades is.

Cool, but no matter how much you whine about it, they're the ones going out and competing and winning championships ever year. They're also the ones dominating us every time we play and they just got better.

This. Until Brady and Belichick are gone, it doesn't matter how much the Steelers spend or don't spend.

Exactly and the one way to compete with is have a strong O-check! You need DBs that can cover, but instead of getting guys that are better than what had in the AFCCG, people are more worried about spending to much on a player and a position of extreme need, but on the other hand want to spend 10 million on a ILB that does zero to help us beat elite qb's

I think the steelers will be spending their money on new contracts for AB, Bell, Tuitt and Villanueva.

This draft is loaded at CB, S and DE/OLB. I'd rather have all our own guys locked up long term than spend a ton on a CB or OLB who may not be better than what they can get in this draft.

It's not difficult to see why they win. They are in one of the easiest divisions in football, have the best quarterback in the game and the smartest head coach. The team doesn't do much special on the field, but are so fundamentally sound. Win the division and the AFC and it's an easy path for a deep playoff run. It is usually an easy matchup in the division round and it's right to the conference championship. Whether it's Brady, Belichick, cheating, whatever...they are the team to beat each year and the Steelers need to find a way to get around the Patriots. At this point, their best approach is by having another team knock them off and I want us to be in position to do the job this season.

Bingo. One of the top teams, top QB, top head coach, AND they play in a weak division so they are virtually guaranteed to win their division, get a first round bye, and home field for the rest of the playoffs. Year in and year out.

(Meantime we have a maddeningly inconsistent QB and head coach, play poor fundamentals especially on defense and special teams, and most years the Bungles or Ratbirds or both give us a run for the division, and we're often a wild card because we lose two games a year that we shouldn't to bad teams. :deadhorse: )

That's fine, but we don't have time to wait for guys to develop now, depending on Ben, and rookies arent going to step right in every year and contribute

This is the most important offseason the Steelers have had in YEARS. Probably since right before Mike Tomlin's first season.

They need to justify spending upwards of 65% of their cap money on the offense. This is the year the offense HAS to show up consistently all year. The Steelers have had to deal with one catastrophic injury or suspension after another to key players. Whatever happens this year......they need to carry this football team. If it comes down to outscoring someone, there is no excuse. If you're willing to pay top dollar at the QB, RB, and WR position and have arguably 3 of the very best in the league at the position, a damn good O-line and what really are quality complimentary pieces regardless of what the talking heads will tell you.......then you need to show the **** up in the playoffs.

Ben Roethlisberger has had more talent around him than damn near any QB in the last 20 years for the entirety of his career. Look at the WR's he's been able to play with. The only out I'll give him is the O-line, which was atrocious from 2009 to 2012.

The Steelers were never going to sign Dont'a Hightower. Or Dre Kirkpatrick. Or Logan Ryan. You all know this. Don't get your hopes up. You know better.

The Steelers do business their way whether we like it or not. They get results. They protect their culture above all else. They aren't going to be as cutthroat as the Patriots who would have never paid Antonio Brown or LeVeon Bell. They also wouldn't have drafted them either. They are a ****** drafting team for the most part. But they get talent in their own way and they dispose of it in their own way and they win. So that works for them. I don't agree with how they do it but it works. That's why I'm a Steelers fan.

We'll see a few low level FA signings soon for depth. The only time they make a somewhat big splash is when there is an obvious hole. Usually at safety because they trust the market.

It's different when there are clear holes. I'm okay with drafting OLB's because theoretically we have the starters on the roster - we just need quality depth and future starters, which is what the draft is for.

What I'm disappointed in is ignoring the CB position. I would have been willing to pay for one of those top guys. I do not believe the FO is confident in Cockrell, Gay is done, and Golson is a huge question mark. That position grouping needs help this year, and probably more than what any rookie can offer.

They've ignored that position for YEARS.
Silly me

I hear what you are saying but don't give the CHEATRIOTS ANY credit as I'm not sure which part of them are good and which part is the cheater. Are they this good because of the cheating or are they 80% good with a 20% bonus cheat added to it??? Do the STEELERS need to beat them, HELL YES, but their cheating still fills a portion of their pie.

Fully agree, the STEELERS need to win more consistantly. It's amazing in it's own right on how well the STEELERS do inspite of being in one of the more consistant strong divisions of the NFL. Give the STEELERS a devision similar to the cheaters and maybe we do as well. Course we would have to have a more consistant coaching staff, a more consistant offense & defense, a similar draft history as I think both teams are near in that department, one big difference is fan base, OURS would have to turn into idiot ********........................

When Williams steps in for Timmons all of our starting positions are filled. NE gave up their first round pick, so when we
have a #1 pick we will improve.

If Bryant gets straight and Green is healthy our offense greatly improves.

The Steelers need a Edge Rusher, CB and back-up RB. By the end of the 4th round we will have them. As free agency stands now, we could be in-line for 2 comp picks in 2018.

Yeah but you can't rely or expect rookies to step right in and be good and contribute, yeah we hope they can, but if they don't and they usually don't their first season, we are stuck with the same secondary to try to stop NE who gets Gronk back, got a good #2 TE, and added a wr that is very good, and they still have the guys that embarrassed us

I know, I know. The Steelers never make a big splash in free agency. However, we are losing players off the roster and apparently not able to sign anyone to fill those spots?

Timmons, Jarvis Jones, Markus Wheaton, Deangelo Williams = a ton of money off the cap from last year. I didn't expect really any of those players to be back so that's not my concern. We only have so many draft picks and at this rate it appears that all 7 will be playing with several starting Week 1. Is there no player on the FA market this team has targeted to bring in this year?

Maybe the plan is to go to camp with 40 players under contract and hold a walk-on tryout for the next Vince Papale to take over the OLB or CB position?

Vince Papale? Bah! The Steelers once cut Al Bundy. For real!

But your right. With a lot of cap space for a change, we continued to bleed free agents. File this free agency period one under WTF, and wait for the margin basements types to fill holes...like Justin Hunter who's maybe a 4th WR.

Completely false picture - WE SIGNED AB and got Bell back!

That alone makes it a good offseason.

Sure, relative to past years the STEELERS had a little more cap space

WE STILL weren't going to OUTSPEND ANYONE

LOOK AROUND THE LEAGUE!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOTS of teams had WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY MORE MONEY THAN US

You don't compete for free agents in a vacuum, they will go for the money, honey

We sign our own, but in terms of NET players, we lose nearly every year free agency.

That was my point Spike, and you know its true.

I'm glad Bell was tagged instead of booked.

Normally I'd say the Steelers have it right on FA. However small window closing with Ben. Take a gamble and go for it.

That's what the DRAFT is for - to have rookies come in and compete for the jobs lost - AND NOT SIT ON THE BENCH FOR 4 YEARS "LEARNING"

I give the Steelers credit - they finally crawled out of their shell and made some rookies starters on defense - but you know they were dragged kicking and screaming to do it.

Credit them or not, they're still probably going to be the No. 1 seed this season and playing at home in the conference title game.

Make no mistake the cheatriots reloaded and we won't beat them next season or the season after and probably the season after that! The Ben era is over. We pissed away a hundred million dollar qb with draft picks like zingy hood, Jarvis jones, Dru archer, and the rest and refused to make up the difference in free agency. The pats picked up a speed burner to go with the lacrosse player that beat our *** like a drum, a db who can stick to brown like glue, as if they needed one. They picked up a proven run stuffer after they stuffed the run and the ball up our keister in the playoffs. The pats have one mission: beat the Steelers. Beat them and you can beat the rest. The Rooneys seem more interested in keeping up apperences than beating the pats. Sad for Ben sad for the steeler fans. Theres always 2020!!!
