I know, I know. The Steelers never make a big splash in free agency. However, we are losing players off the roster and apparently not able to sign anyone to fill those spots?

Timmons, Jarvis Jones, Markus Wheaton, Deangelo Williams = a ton of money off the cap from last year. I didn't expect really any of those players to be back so that's not my concern. We only have so many draft picks and at this rate it appears that all 7 will be playing with several starting Week 1. Is there no player on the FA market this team has targeted to bring in this year?

Maybe the plan is to go to camp with 40 players under contract and hold a walk-on tryout for the next Vince Papale to take over the OLB or CB position?

Look, man. They were not going to spend huge money on a FA corner, so Gilmore and Ryan were out of their range. Now, you can argue if they should have spent that money, and maybe they should have. But the guys that are left, are they really any better than Ross Cockrell? Is Devon House or the Cooper kid from Arizona an upgrade? Be careful you don't want them signing someone just for the sake of signing someone.

The FO generally thinks they're awesome at drafting and don't need free agents.

The window is closing, time to go for broke, or it was any ways.

And over spending for below average players is going to put us over the top? The panic that sets in on this board year after year after year when the FO doesn't drop big dollars in FA is getting pretty pathetic. We've had several players come in for visits, and each one has wanted more money than the FO valued them at. Plus, it's not like this is a FA crop that is just packed full of all pro or even pro bowl players, it's a bunch of second and third string type guys that can be had easily once these other teams stop over spending.

Who said over pay for below average players? Butler, Bouye, Gilmore would all instantly be our #1 corner, the position we need the most

And that's fine. Maybe they should have paid for one of those guys. No argument here. But now? Nah. Draft a few.

It's different when there are clear holes. I'm okay with drafting OLB's because theoretically we have the starters on the roster - we just need quality depth and future starters, which is what the draft is for.

What I'm disappointed in is ignoring the CB position. I would have been willing to pay for one of those top guys. I do not believe the FO is confident in Cockrell, Gay is done, and Golson is a huge question mark. That position grouping needs help this year, and probably more than what any rookie can offer.

Exactly! I understand not wanting to be in cap hell 5 years down the road, but when Ben leaves it won't matter

Outside of their own they obviously aren't attracting free agents for some reason. Low balling perhaps?

They have had calls, visits and have even made offers already. They usually never make offers in the first week and a half of FA.

The team that kicked our *** in the AFC Championship game added the top cornerback on the market and one of the best young speed receivers in the game. I get building through the draft, but you can make moves in free agency to help get better.

I'd suggest Burns (unless he regresses) may already be as good as or better than Butler. Gilmore signed for $13m/year with $40m guaranteed.

Bouye signed for 13.5m/year. For a guy who has never had more than 3 INT's in a year. Burns had more INT's last year, more tackles and almost as many PD's. Sure, there is more to being a CB than getting INT's, but $13.5m/yr? C'mon, man!

butler costs our 1st Rounder + at least a long contract of 11M/Y
Gilmore 13M/Y? out of the Steelers cap budget
Bouye 13,5M/Y, see Gilmore

so, as you see they were unpayable by us. You know why other teams can pay for them? because they don't have Ben, Brown, Bell, Heyward, DeCastro, Pouncey under contract. Those are all ProBowlers and no one can have a roster full of those

they had cap room thanks to shady brady and kraft trickery

Maybe teams didn't throw at them as much, and I love Burns and if he progresses then yeah he's a beast, but still I'll take Burns and paying a ton for one of those guys instead of saving money and going into next season with Cockrell opposite Burns. If we are in cap hell in 4 or 5 years so what Ben will be hanging them up.

This same team has an franchise QB who makes way less than his value. This gives them a lot more cap space to work with. Brady makes more money off his endorsements/wife/illegal Robert Craft payment plans, than he does of off his NFL salary.

I agree with you to a certain extent. Obviously, we all expected them to be players with Ben's window, and the fact that we had a little more cap room to play with. However, every team in the NFL had more cap room this offseason, allowing for mediocre players getting superstar money. Also, we all feel there may be a down time when Ben does retire, but it's not like the Steelers are going to end their existence when Ben retires. For the Steelers to become "maddenesque" because of Ben's window would be silly. We simply don't know what will happen between now and when Ben retires.

Cool, but no matter how much you whine about it, they're the ones going out and competing and winning championships ever year. They're also the ones dominating us every time we play and they just got better.

You can also win and not cheat.

you know what I meant, if you didn't this is what I mean:

**** the cheaters, they are not a model to follow, **** them with a red hot tyre iron
I'm ******* tired of listening to what the cheaters did and how great they are, they aren't great, they are proven cheaters and if you admire them then maybe you support their cheating ways too

If they didn't throw at them, they wouldn't have high PDs......
