Is the Steelers Front Office aware FA started?

Make no mistake the cheatriots reloaded and we won't beat them next season or the season after and probably the season after that! The Ben era is over. We pissed away a hundred million dollar qb with draft picks like zingy hood, Jarvis jones, Dru archer, and the rest and refused to make up the difference in free agency. The pats picked up a speed burner to go with the lacrosse player that beat our *** like a drum, a db who can stick to brown like glue, as if they needed one. They picked up a proven run stuffer after they stuffed the run and the ball up our keister in the playoffs. The pats have one mission: beat the Steelers. Beat them and you can beat the rest. The Rooneys seem more interested in keeping up apperences than beating the pats. Sad for Ben sad for the steeler fans. Theres always 2020!!!

then why watch, right?

There's always the chance that someone else beats NE

I remember when lots of media and fans were praising the Patriots for trading for Albert Haynesworth lol I don't know why people are under the impression every single play the Patriots make is going to turn to gold. They've missed plenty of times as well.

I'm not saying everything will work for them, they do miss too, but they just beat our *** again, won the super bowl, and then add a few more top tier free agents, while we do nothing.

So many seem to be pissed the Steelers didn't sign one of the top CBs on the market. "Well, they'll never beat the Pats now!" Are you telling me you would be all the sudden confident they could if they signed Gilmore or Logan Ryan? Are you kidding me?

The only way the Steelers are going to beat the Pats is if the top players they have, Ben, for example, play better when they play them. Bell can't be getting hurt. Brown can't get all emotional, he just has to find a way to get open. They can't keep hurting themselves (Bryant). The coaches have to come up with a better game plan and stop looking like pee wee coaches when they go up against Belechick. Signing a guy in FA isn't going to accomplish any of that. It's about, for too many fans, feeling good in March. Then in January, if those above things don't happen regardless of who they sign or don't sign, reality arrives.

agree with everything you say. But if all those things happen, we still lose to the Pats. We need better pash rush or a better secondary. preferably both

Again look at the teams that have beaten the Pats in the past, Denver, Giants, Jets,. Baltimore, what do they all have in common, they could rush the qb and could play right coverage.
If we have our O healthy I think we'll score, hell we had 4 TDs dropped or called in the AFCCG, but I think NE O could've scored more if needed

They also had $40 million more available to them in cap space.

Ben should start a health club which costs $2 million to join and have the Steelers sign up all of their players for the club.

Dave Todd made a good point the other day about how the Steelers have probably never had such a loaded with talent roster heading into the draft. Only really thin at CB and OLB. But really, CB is not as bad as it seems. Gay had a bad game against the Patriots, but a good season overall. They will draft an edge rusher and a CB. They will also shore up the TE and RB spots via the draft. Barring injuries, there's a good shot at making a run for 7 over the next couple of years.

I agree with OLB. You can tell they plan to draft a kid to split with Harrison. I do have an issue with the cb depth. Gay fell off a cliff last year, and Cockrell is very, very average. They also need to an an ILB for depth.

When your franchise qb hints at retirement soon, it's time to go a different route in the off season, hoping your draft picks contribute from day one is very risky and for the most part doesn't work right away.
Gay is done he had a nice career, but I'm not counting on him to make plays, Cockrell is ok, but we need someone better than him. I think Dupree will be damn good, Harrison has to start to wear down sometime, but he's still a beast rushing passer, dropping a 39 yr old LB, who in his prime wasn't that good in coverage, into coverage a ton was just idiotic

They've got a game plan and we have to trust it. Making a big splash in UFA would be fantastic but also know there will be additional players cut as we approach the draft and also the July 1 cuts so there will be an opportunity to add pieces in addition to the players who largely just got overpaid. We need bargain FA's so we can maintain the core of this team.

Remember too that our CB situation wasn't helped by our best pass rusher (Heyward) missing half the season and the playoffs.

Pass defense actually got a lot better once he left. The 9-game win streak the pass defense was very good.

Obviously it didn't hold up against Brady & Company, but I think people are remembering too much of that game and not enough of the nine previous (not that I'm saying that's all you should be looking at either).

I guess it had a lot to do with the young guys jelling, with Heyward back the front D should be vastly improved

Not sure how/why he is glossing over the two most important positions on defense. Pretty much saying the offense is stacked but is thin at quarterback and left tackle.

I was thinking the FO based on free agency wasn't looking at that game enough.

It showed weaknesses and areas that needed improvement.

And so far outside of a iffy WR crickets.

Sure this team is talentloaded and the draft could help them especially with a extra 3rd.

But where is the sense of urgency with Ben's comments?

I mean do they plan on holding him hostage a year two down the road?

That had a lot to do with Hargrave stepping up, Jarvis being replaced by Deebo and Bud coming back.

There is a problem with the "sense of urgency" argument over Ben.

It stated that way almost as if every time Ben goes out and plays, he is 25-30, 350 yds, and 3 TDs. That just isn't the case. I know now I will get the obligatory, "Do you remember when they didn't have a franchise guy?" Damn right I do. And I think Ben is great. But the truth is he isn't that damn near perfect QB that you can just guarantee will play great week in and week out.

The point is I think the Steelers know this. They can sign a CB to 14 million and make you feel happy. But they don't win unless the stars they have play better at big moments, and Ben just hasn't played that great in the playoffs lately. So a lot of this the window closing stuff, does Ben know that? Will he work to improve his game in little areas, like not making a wrong read at the goal line, changing a play and getting picked?
